[The day is a bit cloudy, and wind on the water is around eighteen knots. The harbor is bustling with townspeople and visitors. Temporary stalls have been set up selling mostly food and drink or merchandise for the three Raha Cup yacht teams.

[You might need to shove a few people to get right on the waterfront, but the view of the boats in the harbor is well worth it. Once the race begins and the boats are clear of the harbor, remote control boats are available for rental; the race is expected to take two hours.

[At the nearby Balamb Hotel, there is a large TV screen set up outdoors with seating available. Hotel staff are running an outdoor bar for the occasion.

[Throughout the area and within a couple of blocks of both the waterfront and the hotel, a combination of SeeD, Cadets, and uniformed Balamb militia and police are posted as security, in response to threats received by the town council. Normally this event only has police security, so the townspeople seem to resent the need for this increased show of force rather than the fact that they're around at all.]

(OOC: Free-for-all! Feel free to make your own threads as well as using the location threads. NPCs may hit your characters up. You may have your SeeD/Cadet character hired as security if you choose; they will be in uniform, and will be on for half hour shifts so they have time to enjoy the event as well.)

Yo!

Looks like I picked a bad time to start taking classes in this dump. Anyone care to fill me in as to what the hell is going on here? Looks like nobody's prepared to appreciate the Great Zelos when he's just some new cadet.

We'll see about that. Greatness isn't something that'll go overlooked for too long, huh?

Zelos Wilder

[Action]

[Not that Zelos is gonna sit staring at a computer screen all day. Computers are a giant pain to someone whose entire computer expertise comes down to messing with the bad guys' stuff. Computers aren't really a thing on Tethe'alla, and he's kinda glad of it - looks like they have their uses, but they're kinda boring!

Nope, he's gonna wander all around the Garden, familiarise himself with the general layout of the place, keep an eye out for cuties, and hopefully work out what everyone's getting so worked up over. Better get himself established in this place if he's gonna stick around, after all!

Please report to the infirmary if you are:
  • a Battlefield Medicine and/or Recovery Para-Magic specialist (SeeD or Cadet)
  • a cadet who has not yet passed PMGF 101
  • someone with off-world healing abilities

In preparation for the battle, I wish to create small medical response teams which can work out of rooms other than the infirmary, decentralizing treatment so that a single strike to the infirmary won't take out the entire medical staff. These teams will be led by SeeDs or senior cadets. Basic first aid training is available for those who have not taken REC 101, or those who need a refresher.

    Touma H. Norstein

  • [The infirmary is a flurry of activity. There's a huge pile of medical supplies (bandages, Potions, status restorers, etc) on one table, which Gaomon is sorting into smaller piles according to a list in one gloved paw. Touma has a pile of Magic Stones and Pieces thereof before him, which is steadily diminishing as he refines them into spells.]

[Until a moment ago, there was a small tree at this corner on the Quad.

    Crack!

Someone just unleashed some kind of strange concussive blast nearby it. It is now in two pieces.

Quite nearby, there is an elf, lacking his usual tattoos and looking rather shell-shocked. Oh, and he's glowing in the evening dark and floating a good foot or so off the ground.

    Do you approach?]

[So outside the Fisherman Horizon’s inn is a boy in bright red, squinting at a letter in his hands and generally looking confused. ]

..How is this even---this is for a school, right? And what’s a cadet? [he makes a face] I’ve had enough homework to last for a lifetime. I don’t need anymore! Ugh what if the Professor saw this letter—she’d probably make me, wait where is this--

[he seems to remember something, as he jerks upright, looking around with wide eyes]
GUYS?! Where are you---we've got  to stop Mithos!

[he’s checking his person, noting he has the two swords made by his fathers.  ]

This makes no sense..Mithos, what did you do?! Damn it..

[and he’s staring helplessly around the area of the Inn, at the ocean and generally looking a bit upset. For a few minutes he stands like this, staring at the paper in his hands, before he turns on his heel decisively and]

Greetings, everyone. My name is Raine Sage, and I'm a returning Instructor who just finished a very educational and quite fascinating study of ruins around the globe. I'll be teaching World Geography, so if any students have questions about the class, please feel free to let me know. If you want to see a slide-show presentation of my trip and my collection of artifacts and other historical objects, please feel free to ask! I'm one of the faculty members staying in Fisherman's Horizon, so keep that in mind if you'd like to see me in person.

Zelos, thank you for keeping touch with me. I'm sorry for not returning your latest letter, I was busy packing. Did I miss anything important?

    [ action ]

[ Raine is hanging out at the Quad, with some weird... "artifacts" and stones laid out on a blanket. A lot of it looks understandably like junk, but Raine looks like she is in heaven. Just staring at them makes her seem happy. She looks quite busy arranging, rearranging, and examining the different objects. Maybe she's thinking of putting them up on display? ]

This is marvelous... simply marvelous! Real stone from the Tomb of the Unknown King! I wonder if being around the Brothers has imbued it with Earth properties...

[ Let's be honest here: She looks like a madwoman, the way she's staring at the stone in her hands. There's other crap all over the blanket: A stick of metal that looks like staircase railing, a piece of a broken vase, some broken bit of machinery and it's difficult to believe that any of this could be considered valuable. Still, maybe if you're a bad dude enough, you can approach her and ask about it... ]

[There seems to be a festive atmosphere all throughout Garden. Why? Because it's the Homecoming Carnival! The Garden Festival Committee has been hard at work all morning and when 1300 hours strikes, it's finally open for everyone to enjoy.

There's a map on the Directory which shows where everything is located:

    MAP )

    Have fun, Garden!]

[OOC: As noted, this has been backdated to last Friday. So as not to exclude new characters who came in after, though, it can be assumed that their arrivals were backdated so they can participate.

PLEASE DO NOT POST UNTIL WE HAVE FINISHED PUTTING UP THE SUBCOMMENTS. Thank you! We're done posting the subcomments, you can go ahead and jump in!

EDIT: Also, we forgot to mention: Players can assume that characters take different shifts which allow for everyone to enjoy other parts of the carnival as well instead of being stuck manning a booth the whole night. For Dunk Tank and Kissing Booth, it's best to leave your character's name in the subject of their comment to start off their thread to indicate their shift. Thank you!

EDIT 2: FORGIVE US! We forgot to mention that there is a price for some of the attractions at the carnival. This is a fundraiser where the money can to go whatever the Garden Festival Committee sees fit; we'll let the players and their characters decide on that front. Here's how the pricing goes:

    KISS: 2 gil each
FERRIS WHEEL/ BUMPER CAR/ CAROUSEL: 5 gil per person
CARNIVAL GAME: 1 gil per game
FACE PAINTING: 2 gil per person
FOOD STALLS: We'll leave this up to characters to decide.
DUNK TANK: 5 gil for 3 balls, 10 gil for 10 balls
FORTUNE TELLING: 3 gil per reading

    We hope this clarifies things!

Colette! My cute little angel, you're here? That's great! Let's go to the dance together, okay?

As for the rest of my hunnies, what are your plans?

Oh. Bumpkins can answer too, I guess.

    - The Great and Handsome Instructor Zelos Wilder

[What is using the PM system, he must be obnoxious in front of the world. Anyway, if you were lucky enough to not see that post, or ignore it, you may not be so lucky in person! Zelos wanders around a lot. If he's not flirting with random female NPC #1, he's either wandering around all chill, or sometimes he can be found in really weird places, looking extremely thoughtful.

AKA feel free to run into him anywhere and greet your Mathematics instructor!]

Since we all come from various different backgrounds, I'm curious as to what everyone of age deems a good date?

Are there any cliches where you're from that you want to avoid? Or perhaps customs that are absolutely required? When you want to go formal, do you prefer big and splashy or something quiet and intimate? Of course generally it's best to tailor such a thing to the person you're dating, but what if they're not sure? Do you bring a gift, and what kind, or is that too over the top? Perhaps something from the heart is better.

Anyone got particular favorite date ideas they've been on or wish-dates to fulfill?

    - Marco
