Alright, Instructor Inverse here. I've got a vague idea of what's gone down while I was away - so what I wanna know is what former students of mine are still around, and are you guys alright?

...and I guess other folks I knew can check in too. Sue me, I show back up mid all hell breaking loose, I wonder about my students first.

I'll keep this short and sweet.

Today I wrote up a notice of resignation. I've yet to submit it - I will stay through the break to support our cadets, but when we return, I will no longer be part of SeeD, and will be leaving Balamb Garden.

It's been a good couple of years, but I'm officially done.

[ooc: NO this is not a drop notice, or an impending drop notice! This is an "Espio is pissed off" notice. And no. I have no idea how this is going to work out =| ]

[The video ticks on showing Lina in uniform, and those familiar with it will notice that she's in her classroom.]

So, I'm curious - those of you here who have magical skills that aren't Paramagic, I'd like to talk to you. I'm curious as to how they work. You can either answer here, or come see me in my classroom if you'd prefer to do so in person. Especially if you feel a demonstration is needed. This will help me work out ways to teach future Offworlder cadets some of the more complex Paramagic spells - and you'll get to show off a little, if that's your kinda thing.

[Gourry is smiling cheerfully as he looks into the camera, seated somewhere with his laptop level in front of him. He waves energetically; the video option has always suited him much better than writing things out, once he figured out how to work it. He doesn't have to worry about spelling things this way!

He rubs at the back of his neck as he addresses the camera, looking slightly lost despite the familiar surroundings.]

Looks like there's a lot of new cadets here since I went on my last mission! Makes you wonder where they're all comin' from! Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself, since I'm seein' a lot of new faces in the halls! The name's Gourry Gabriev, SeeD! Er, that's a title, not part of my name. I'm a sword specialist here! To any new cadets, good luck with your training, and watch out for Instructor Inverse! She's got a short temper and she's not shy about throwin' those fireballs around!

[The feed cuts out, the video being wrapped up rather unceremoniously.]

[Action, Afternoon:]

[Later that same day, Gourry can be found in uniform, seated in his own corner of the cafeteria with a table all to himself. There are about five full plates of food spread across it, which he is steadily working his way through without breaking a sweat. He's friendly enough, for anyone who wants to approach him, but keep an eye on your hands. You're likely to lose a finger if you set them down in the wrong place.]

[This morning, Twilight woke up with an inexplicable urge to practice a particular subschool of magic.

Ordinarily, she'd be concerned about showing off with a spell like this one, but since there was bound to be little-to-no reading material about the theoretical applications of gravity manipulation around Garden, she has no choice but to resort to practical use.

So, you might be seeing a purple unicorn on the ceiling today.]

[The PA blips on with its usual merry chimes.]

Good morning, all cadets, staff, and SeeDs.

Thanks to all of your efforts, Balamb Garden is now effectively functional once again. While we still have a lot of minor cleanup to do, we are now at full structural integrity and mobility. We continue to monitor the status of our equipment.

For this reason, any cadets who undertake the standard mission "Sub-Basement Patrol and Repair" within the next two weeks will be given an additional 1000G on successful mission completion. This same offer applies to the standard mission, "Centra Machinery Maintenance", and in addition the SeeD supervising the mission will be awarded a rank increase.

After compiling the reports from the attack on Garden as well as the mission debriefings, we can only conclude that the nations of Galbadia and Esthar, as well as other unknown parties, are making a concerted effort to acquire and use offworld technology and items to advance their own interests. Therefore, I would ask any person who has any information about the... giant sword... which immobilized Garden... to provide it to me in person or through private message as soon as possible.

Please be aware that I will also be making a study of the most qualified SeeDs and Instructors over the next few weeks, with an eye to appointing a SeeD Lieutenant Commander. Those of you who are interested in this position are strongly encouraged to start polishing your list of accomplishments and skills.

That is all, Garden.

Instructor Lina Inverse, please report to my office at your convenience.

[Shortly after this announcement has gone out, it is transcribed and posted on the BBS, if anyone chooses to discuss it there,.]

[The stopover at Fishermans Horizon takes maybe two minutes, total.]

[One moment, the Garden is slowing to a halt -- the next moment, the dock latches hiss into their closed position, the ramp into town is secured against the second-floor exit, and the SeeDs are being gestured out the door and into action. In the same moments, in a flurry of action, a hatch deploys on the side of the floating citadel and a transport boat steams out to position itself at the ladder just next to the Garden's dock. The Ragnarok swoops gracefully through the air to land in the center of the city, while down in the train station, traffic has come to a brief halt while an engine waits at full steam, quivering with anxiety.]

[No sooner do the teams touch ground than each receives a small package, easily tucking into a medium belt pouch or pocket. No words are wasted; the SeeDs receive only a cursory nod from the waiting townsfolk before they hurry back into work. The hatch shuts, the latches disengage, and Balamb drifts away, picking up speed as it does.]

Hello Garden,

Do any of you have interest or experience in weapons development? There's something I'd like to discuss with you if you do. I'm particularly looking for SeeDs, but I might need a cadet as well.

-Instructor Cranston

...and unrelated to that announcement, is everyone feeling all right? Something seems to be off in class lately. I'll brew a pot of coffee if our problems with staying awake persist.

[As if no one knows who 'me' is.]

Got any ideas for...whatever you guys call Nightmare Night! You know, where we dress up in costumes and get ALL THE CANDY!

Here's an idea: lets dress as the things we think we taste like! I think I'll be a banana this year!

Anyone else?!

[Under the radar just a tiny bit this time had been the announcement of who the SeeDs to assist in the exam were to be. After the announcement SeeDs Lina Inverse and Espio had been given their mission briefing. The candidates for the exam, on the other hand, would only be briefed on the day, and had two days to prepare.

[Finally, the day to prove that they too could be the pride of Balamb Garden was here.]

((OOC: A bit late and I apologize. This post will have several subthreads; the first three are open right now. If your character is involved, please make sure to track this post so that you will be alerted to responses and any new threads.))

You know the nice thing about justice is that it's universal. Whether people believe in following it out an internal guiding principle, for the sake of society, or the belief in a divine or spiritual intervention, whatever the world, cultural, or legal background, it's commonly considered a good principle.

Obviously I try to focus my classes on the justice systems of this world, or things all worlds seem to have in common, but I'm curious for anyone who knows of specific differences; something that is considered a justice or moral law where they're from but not here or other worlds. The same can go for anyone from this world too of course.

Likewise, I'm curious how all the different worlds enforce their legal systems. Even though each place seems to have some sort of basic governing law, each place also seems to need to enforce it. Maybe no matter what the universe, some people can't be trusted to follow it on their own.

- Instructor Lt. Furor

[He will also be seen playing catch/fetch with a bouncy ball later. Feel free to notice the sheer absurdity of an instructor dog playing catch. But in true puppy fashion, he'll just make you play with him.]

[A few different things had been on Luna's mind since things had calmed down a bit, particularly allowing her mind to wander and think about what exactly was coming up in the next month or so. Curious things, wondering if it was even worth speaking about considering the connotations they held.]

Call us curious, Garden, but We were wondering what kind of celebrations that were held back in your own world that revolved around the end of October. If they were a positive celebration, a negative one, what sort of things were involved, and what kind of characters were included in it. [The ponies probably know exactly what she's getting at, but it was still worth asking.]

Secondly We are curious as to what kinds of rulers and/or deities you had back in your respective worlds. We are... not unused to the term and We wish to know the definitions others have used in such circumstances. It is no secret that We were a co-ruler of Equestria, nor is it a secret that We had, for some time, control over the change from sun to moon along with the stars in the sky. Thus We will also gladly answer any questions on that front as well as We have quite a bit of time on our hands.

Well, I see I was just a bit too late in getting back to administer finals myself, so my students should count themselves lucky there.

As for those coming into my classes next term, well - I do hope you're ready for the challenge! And to the new recruits - welcome, and a word of advice. Don't believe everything you hear.

[Because half of the stuff about her is filthy, stinking lies. The rest is likely embellished truth.]

So good luck on finals, and enjoy the break - while you can.

[Today, the quad has a new resident.]

[This is not necessarily a good thing.]

[You can ask all sorts of questions: like how did it get here!? Or what does it want?! Or even why is it here in the first place?! And these are all perfectly good questions (with perfectly good answers, mind), but not ones you're going to get an answer just by asking.]

[Because whatever the answers might be, the fact remains that there is a very, very large red chocobo sitting contentedly in front of the quad's stage -- right in the middle of everything, in other words. At the moment, it has its head tucked back and its eyes shut -- it's napping.]

[Then again, who knows how sensitive its hearing is? (There's another good question, and this one might be answered quickly and directly if you care to ask...)]
