I have a couple of questions I want to ask. Firstly is it normal here for things to seem off, or something you can't explain to yourself let alone others? Secondly, is it odd for my hair colour to change all by itself?

I'm just curious if I'm not the only one this has happened to.

[ Claire might be overly-serious and often annoyed by what is seemingly the strangest, smallest thing, but over the last week or so... yeah, something has definitely thrown her off completely-- even more so than the now-regular hints here and there that something is wrong.

Case in point #1: she's carrying around a weapon with her pretty much all the time now, regardless of any odd looks she gets. Standing in the cafeteria line? Yep, there's her bronze-colored FF8-style gunblade hanging sheathed behind her. Walking to class? That's her folded-up blue and gunmetal-black gunblade that came with her from home...

Case in point #2: she keeps messing with the lights even in the middle of class, and even though normally she's glad for the fact that her classrooms have windows, the dark looks she keeps aiming towards them from the other side of the room are... odd, to say the least. Eventually-- ]

Alright, that's enough. We're finished for the day.

[ ... Then, she moves to leave without another word. Simple as that.

However, afterwards she... still isn't looking so good at all, arm outstretched to lean against a wall outside, somewhere in between Garden's entrance and the inn. With her head bowed and eyes closed, she's pale, noticeably sweating, and totally tuned out to what's going on around her.

And furthermore? Those with a particularly keen sense of observation might notice something else interesting- wherever her clothes don't cover, she's... not casting a shadow. Weird. ]

[There's a girl timidly wandering around the quad, perhaps a new kid that happens to be lost? Perhaps so, since the only thing she had in her hand was the arrival letter, nothing more.]

Oh no... where am now... maybe I should ask someone.

[She quietly glanced at the closest person to her.]

ATTN: students in SPC 101 and ROC 101

I apologize, but I must absent myself from class for the next few days due to illness. A subsitute professor will be provided, and in the case of SPC 101, this will not affect your upcoming finals. Any questions concerning the material covered so far should be forwarded to the substitute, and if not, posted here or slipped under my office door to be reviewed as soon as I am able.

- Instructor Elika

[ Elika is laid up in her room, skin ash-gray from the pain that she's been carrying for a few days now. It flickers on and off, in increasingly powerful bursts. At first she grit her teeth and managed, but it's become so unbearable lately she's been forced to take leave.

What's worse is that no one in the infirmary could see signs of anything wrong: no redness, no welts or swelling, nothing strange in the blood or skin, no change in diet or exercise. Eventually, forced to admit they couldn't find a cause, they sent her back to her room with orders to rest.

The pain is strongest in the throat and chest, but it snakes all the way to her arms and even her feet. She would normally use her magic to dull the pain, but her powers seem weakened by the illness. Seems all she's got left to do is bear it until it passes. Come visit her with well-wishes? ]

[Alice can be found wondering around Fisherman's Horizon, glancing around at the many different places it had to offer. She glanced into windows of stores for a moment, checking to see what they had within. It was all so interesting to her, but for now she was walking around, making sure that people weren't doing anything they shouldn't be, while at the same time taking in the area that she had never seen before.]

I guess I should say hi. I'm Rise Kujikawa and I just arrived here recently and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

[Rise can be found sitting in the Quad, happily looking around at the others walking by. It was a new place and one she wasn't expecting to even be here. She eventually stood up and started to walk about a bit more, going up to people and asking questions.]

Excuse me, but can you help me with something?

[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the happily decorated Ballroom located on the second floor.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.

The Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.]

[There seems to be a festive atmosphere all throughout Garden. Why? Because it's the Homecoming Carnival! The Garden Festival Committee has been hard at work all morning and when 1300 hours strikes, it's finally open for everyone to enjoy.

There's a map on the Directory which shows where everything is located:

Have fun, Garden!]

[OOC: As noted, this has been backdated to last Friday. So as not to exclude new characters who came in after, though, it can be assumed that their arrivals were backdated so they can participate.

PLEASE DO NOT POST UNTIL WE HAVE FINISHED PUTTING UP THE SUBCOMMENTS. Thank you! We're done posting the subcomments, you can go ahead and jump in!

EDIT: Also, we forgot to mention: Players can assume that characters take different shifts which allow for everyone to enjoy other parts of the carnival as well instead of being stuck manning a booth the whole night. For Dunk Tank and Kissing Booth, it's best to leave your character's name in the subject of their comment to start off their thread to indicate their shift. Thank you!

EDIT 2: FORGIVE US! We forgot to mention that there is a price for some of the attractions at the carnival. This is a fundraiser where the money can to go whatever the Garden Festival Committee sees fit; we'll let the players and their characters decide on that front. Here's how the pricing goes:

KISS: 2 gil each
CARNIVAL GAME: 1 gil per game
FACE PAINTING: 2 gil per person
FOOD STALLS: We'll leave this up to characters to decide.
DUNK TANK: 5 gil for 3 balls, 10 gil for 10 balls
FORTUNE TELLING: 3 gil per reading

We hope this clarifies things!

Option A: Early Morning, Kitchens

[Upon entering the kitchens, for whatever reason, one can see a flurry of activity as Tiana is almost everywhere at once! At the sink washing vegetables and fruit, at the counters chopping up a variety of items, at the stoves, ovens, etc. She's everywhere! Cooking. And ... humming? She's humming.

Well. She's certainly settled in well, it seems.

Suddenly, she glances up, mid-chop from the counter where she somehow ended up again (wasn't she just in the pantry?) and notices she's not alone. She speaks up, a sweet yet southern Louisiana accent to her voice.]

Hello there. Can I help you with somethin'?

Option B: Afternoon, Cafeteria

[A bit after lunch and Tiana is moving rather nimbly through the crowd of people, a tray in each hand and one atop her head as she refills the buffet line.

Hmm... To comment or to cause some mischief?]

Option C: Late Evening, Dorms and Heading to B226

[The day is well and over with, things having slowed down enough for Tiana to really think about where she is and what has happened.

A melancholy look over takes the face of the Garden's newest cook as she walks along, twisting the ring upon her hand that signifies her married status. Her married status, in another world where she's separated from her new husband. She continues to fiddle with the ring, the physical contact of it bringing her comfort as she seeks out her shared room for, hopefully, some quiet.]

C'mon, Plue. This way...

[The Stellar Mage walks through the halls of Garden, a little white creature with a carrot-orange pointed nose following closely behind. She has her arms full of course guide, snacks, and cookies for Plue. The doors open in the halls and she finds herself in the Quad, and, seeing a bench, she quickly goes over, drops into a seat...and promptly collapses, exhausted. Her books and snacks go sliding to the floor all which ways.]

Huuuungh! Just great! And just when things were finally getting back to normal!

[She stops her whines to raise her head, blink at nothing, blankly, and then sigh.]

Yea. Irony is right. When is anything ever normal for me? At least I'm not tied up somewhere with some creep holding a flaming sword to my neck...

[While his Stellar Mage grumbles and gripes, Plue helps himself to some cookies, plopping down at the girl's feet, and shoving one after another treat into his mouth, wiggling his little legs.]

[Rasler's no stranger to what's said on his acceptance letter in hand, although he is somewhat surprised at Balamb's use of sponsors. That's definitely new to him, he doesn't recall Galbadia ever doing things that way. He's already paused at the directory to get a feel for where the dorms and the cafeteria and training area all are, and so he's currently making his way to the dorms section now.

With a backpack of his possessions and clothing slung over a shoulder he might look like any other newcomer but while wearing a Galbadia Garden jacket (partially left open at the collar), there's something a little off about him if he's wearing a uniform that belongs to another Garden.

Rasler slows to a stop.

Another look down to read what's on his letter and he flips open his course catalog. It says he can do whatever he wants with his free time and take some extra classes here at Balamb while waiting for his field exam-- maybe he'll look into it.

If it means he'll be one step closer to returning to Ivalice.
