[Balamb Garden has taken off around the Balamb coastline! The seaside and clear night sky can be seen through the windows and from the balconies. The halls are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the happily decorated ballroom located on the second floor.

[At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.]

The Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.

[Within the ballroom, there is a stationary stand for punch and food, as well as roaming caterers offering drinks (grape juice) and canapes.]

Voting is now closed. There is a thread here for announcing and crowning the winners; on-lookers are free to react in the thread.

Attendance is entirely optional, so with most of the faculty at the dance, characters are free to roam the rest of the school! However, as Balamb Garden is flying around the Balamb coastline, they will not be able to leave (unless you can fly or really like heights and don't mind injuries...), and any characters left behind will be stranded for a few hours.

Even critiquing the canapes, dancing, and trying to drum up votes with complete strangers.]

[ That dress... strongly reminds Claire of broken things- electronic screens shattered but still receiving power, an entire box full of multicolored paints spilled out onto the floor, expensive pigments irretrievably ruined, flashes of color caused by too-strong blows to the head....

She has to wonder about the sanity of one who would choose to wear such a thing, idly entertaining the irrational concern that if she were to get too close, her own dress might inherit some of the too-bright hues. As such, she makes no effort to approach from her station a few feet away, knowing too by both instinct and experience alike that a conversation with Sharpay may quickly turn to an experience she finds herself regretting. ]

[Pinkie steps into the dance hall, wearing an outfit that actually shows her age, and looks around at all the wonderful people having fun and dancing. She's looking about in excitement, not sure if she should hit the dance floor first or get food or chat with others!

And then she remembers that she came with Champloo, so it would be a good idea to save chat chitting with others for the moment.]

[Champloo is simply dressed in a suit and tie! It looks fairly strange on him, sort of like if you tried to put a bear in formal wear. Nevertheless, he follows after Pinkie gamely, a smile on his face and well aware that he's not the one who'll have the limelight tonight.]

[Gakupo decided to just go in his SeeD uniform, since what woman doesn't like a guy in uniform? Although that's not his only reasoning. He's busy at the drink table, choosing which kind of punch to try. There are way too many choices for punch.]

Careful, they're probably all spiked by now. [Smirks to show she's joking... but only partly. She vaguely remembered the punch last year getting spiked.]

[Rapunzel seems to be enjoying herself, trying not to think too much on the voting she was competing in and just having fun right here and now, looking around and trying to decide if she wants to eat now or dance first. She's never had anyone to dance with before, not like some of these people were, slowly, twirling around and holding each other. She decides to get a drink first, heading to the refreshments and food tables to pour herself some punch. It was nice, to see so many people having fun here, and she tries to keep an eye out for anyone she knows, a little nervous but excited as she tried to keep her hair out of everyone's way and not spill her drink on her dress.]

[Ahri decided to come with a comfortable, flexible and as usual, revealing outfit. Just because it was the type of clothing she preferred.

Truthfully she'd much rather be naked, but she knows the limitations of social worlds where clothing is a must for everyone. She was more than fine compromising. After all, she was here to have a good time and she intended to do so.

Even as she waited around for the winner of the auction, she still made sure to wave, greet, and have fun with those that were around her. Always making sure to give them something to stare, or think about while she was around.

Even her tails seemed overly playful this day and it almost seemed to be a mesmerizing display if you looked at them for too long.]

[For the sake of the spirit of the party, Ronnae decided to opt out of her comfort zone and leave the hoodie and thick baggy clothing in her room. She had managed to find a simple dress... that still ended up giving her a hoodie! What? She still needs to feel safe!

Regardless, the teen made her way to the room where the dance was being held and looked around nervously. She hadn't counted on the fact that even though she had her hoodie, the dress was made to be tight around her body and it showed and accentuated her figure even more.]

[Snake comes over with a drink for Ronnae and himself, offering it to her.] "Hello," says Emily.

[He's trying really hard to keep his chin up and remember what Ciel had said on the boat back home- unfortunately being the butler of the Phantomhive Estate didn't mean much here.]

[ Last yeah had Claire in a dress of black and blue... this year, she's chosen a paler style instead- a stylish white with gold accents, though still with her chest stubbornly covered and offset by a length that leaves her long, long legs quite visible - an apparent act of defiance despite how that sort of thing got her in the gossip column before.

... And a definite contrast to her serious attitude as she walks the event they call a 'dance' while doing nothing of the sort. This may not be a classroom, but there can be little doubt that if she catches wind of unruliness, the trouble-makers responsible may just find themselves in a detention with a woman who doesn't hold back her disapproval.

Barring that, she's content to hang back and watch, emotionally isolated from the otherwise happy environment. To tell the truth, however, that's really not all that unusual, is it? ]

[Espio doesn't show until fairly late on, but he wasn't going to miss out completely. He got Nida to cover him for a bit just so he could come and investigate.

He's not particularly recognisable, though. Even those familiar with his polymorphus form might have a bit of trouble, given that he's actually made an effort to look presentable and convinced someone (Mikuru) to braid his hair. Loose tie aside, he looks fairly smart in a green shirt and black trousers.

So, any particular reason why Espio of all people has bothered to look decent?

Yes. A person, actually. And he was looking for them until he got distracted by the food.]

[Tired of dancing for the time being, Chase works his way over to the food, taking off his tuexdo coat and loosening the tie and the first two buttons of his shirt as he goes.] Oooh, food looks really good this year. Got any favorites?

[Tobias usually wouldn't actually come to an event like this -- the fact that he doesn't really get it combined with only knowing a few people personally tends to do that to someone. However, with Espio dropping blatant hints and nudges to support his father -- and the fact that it was supporting Marco -- Tobias was here, dressed in his uniform and fidgeting with the outfit.

Even Pikachu looks nice and pretty today, with her fur all brushed, cleaned, and shiny, complete with a pretty pink bow tied around her neck. Currently, she's curled up around Tobias' neck, the two of them watching the rest of the party-goers.

Yeah, he'll just stay in the corner here. He seems happy enough looking at everyone else, at least.]

[Oh good. He did show up. Espio had kind of assumed he'd end up having to waste half his break going to retrieve him.

He's just gonna try sneaking over - which is kind of hard, considering he has no invisibility in this form, and Toby's in a corner - and just grab him. For a certain definition of grab - it's more one arm around the waist.]

[Kate debated showing up to the dance, but eventually decided "why not?" and showed up in a little purple dress. Though she stood near the entrance for a few minutes, she eventually makes her way over to the dance floor.]

[Who the hell is that classy-looking guy walking into the ballroom? Surely it can't be Chase, as there isn't a garish color anywhere--not even his hair, which he brought back to his natural blonde. But in fact it is Chase Kelly!

Turns out he didn't see fit to blind anyone tonight. Instead, he's choosing to schmooze like the best of them, dance a bit, and get some food/punch when the mood strikes. Basically he's here to have fun and will try to make sure everyone around him is doing the same.]

[ Sigyn doesn't feel the need to try and entice someone into a dance. Back home, whenever an instrument was struck, she and her sisters would move like the nymphs of which they'd been descent. She's chosen a lovely dress and a formidable pair of boots that would protect her toes from even the clumsiest of dancers.

She dances in the middle, not noticing anyone else. She is even singing along to the music, albeit, oddly and loudly. ]

[ To say that Thumbelina is nervous would be to say that water is wet. It clearly is. She's standing by the punch bowl with her second glass of punch, looking around the room, smiling and nodding and say "hello" and "goodbye" with a kind disposition. The attendees of the dance are not what makes Thumbelina anxious. It is her appearance.

She's never done something quite...adventurous.

A dress is quite lovely, but a little showy, and with her hair down, so headband in sight, she wonders if she looks plain.

[It figured that an important social event would occur not long after Ciel had nearly gotten himself settled. He didn't really know anyone yet, but he figured that it would be in his best interest to make an appearance, anyway.

Not that it meant he was going to be social. He found a place to sit and simply watched the crowd. It seemed more lively than the parties he was familiar with. He wasn't sure if that made matters better or worse.]

[You'll find Riza wall-flowering in the shadows in this dress that a made a mysterious appearance in her closet. Upon seeing it, she took the hint that someone wanted her to be at the Homecoming Dance whether she wanted to go or not.

The difficult thing about the dress was where she hid her guns on her person. There was a standard issue tucked somewhere she didn't find all that comfortable at the moment and don't get her started on the shoes. She tosses her long blonde hair over her shoulder, watching. Watching the balcony, watching the dance floor, watching everything.

Some habits just never die.]

[Snake noticed how nervous she looked. Out of place, even. So as the night goes on he casually makes his way closer, and chickens out from talking to her a few times before finally saying,]

"You look like you are about to crawl out of your skin," says Emily.

Snake is wearing a black British styled suit, having shed the butler's outfit for the party and not having finished remaking his costume from Noah's Arc Circus.

He regretted it though, standing in the corner with a cup of punch and blushing. He still felt like everyone was staring at his odd appearance and that his scales stood out too much in the crowd.

[And here comes Tobias, his long mop-wild hair actually combed down and styled, dressed up in his uniform with a bow on Pikachu as well.]

[In the end, Sollux does go to the dance. He was kind of surprised he won the date auction, but he's not about to chicken out. He stands in one corner of the room, sipping a glass of punch and looking around for Nepeta. He's dressed up in a shirt, vest and tie, and wears his red and blue shades, as usual. He's in something of a good mood, smiling slightly to himself as he waits patiently.]

[Nepeta use to protest these Homecoming dances (and really, all the dances the Gardens were fond of hosting) quite a lot. She was never really one for formal occasions, and she couldn't really claim to like them now, but she had learned they could still be enjoyed nonetheless.

This would be her first time really having a date, however, and so she couldn't help but be a little nervous. All the other times she had just gone with friends or her moirail but this was decidedly different.

She was dressed in a rather fancy gown and Vriska was the one to thank for her hair. She was a little late because of it but it didn't take her long to find Sollux and she made her way over to him, smiling]

[Headmaster Cid approaches the stage near the end of the night, and he has a card in his hands. Behind him, two crowns and two tiaras are sitting on a table, with Tom and Sharpay also hovering nearby.]

[During a good chunk of the dance Luna's been more or less keeping to the back of the crowds, smiling and nodding to anyone that decides to at least greet her. For this she's decided the best course of action is clearly to keep testing out this human form thing, particularly considering that the dress selections for ponies isn't very... big. At all.

Therefore she's keeping to the back wearing this lovely little number, finding it to work the best to not stifle the feeling of where her wings were and it being free enough to not seem smothering.

Somehow she's managed to put her odd galaxy hair into a bun for the night with a nice silvery hair clip to match.]

[Terezi snuck in a bit later, near the end, and didn't quite care about that. Her thoughts and head were places elsewhere that weren't the homecoming party, despite some of her enthusiasm for the voting. If there was a window, the blind girl had decided to near that instead of people.]

[Nope, he still doesn't want to be here, thank you. He'd thought he'd seen Maria and Ronnae around, and that's probably the singular reason he hadn't taken off yet. He knows that Mikuru is Busy with a capital B doing hostess stuff, and Zak is pretty determined not to bother her. So he's off sipping punch in a somewhat shady corner.

Not that he doesn't sort of stand out, with a bunch of couples dancing blissfully around him.]
