homecoming dance!
[Balamb Garden has taken off around the Balamb coastline! The seaside and clear night sky can be seen through the windows and from the balconies. The halls are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the happily decorated ballroom located on the second floor.
[At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.]
The Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.
I repeat, the Homecoming Dance is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The ball will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.
The ball and its festivities tonight are being sponsored very generously by the Garden Festival Committee.
[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.
[Within the ballroom, there is a stationary stand for punch and food, as well as roaming caterers offering drinks (grape juice) and canapes.]

Voting is now closed. There is a thread here for announcing and crowning the winners; on-lookers are free to react in the thread.
Attendance is entirely optional, so with most of the faculty at the dance, characters are free to roam the rest of the school! However, as Balamb Garden is flying around the Balamb coastline, they will not be able to leave (unless you can fly or really like heights and don't mind injuries...), and any characters left behind will be stranded for a few hours.

N-no, I-I wath... you.. that dreth... wow...
[Way to go slick. Sollux's cheeks tinge the mustard yellow of his blood as he realizes what an idiot he probably sounds like.]
I-I mean, no, I wathn't. And... wow, you look... amathing.
no subject
Thank you. Terezi helped me pick it out. [Sollux also looked quite dashing in his ensemble. Formalities and events such as these might not be her thing, but Nepeta could certainly appreciate such clothing when they weren't on her.]
You look very good too. [She fidgeted a bit, uncertain of what to do now before remembering that date or no, Sollux was still a friend. That reminder made her relax and she held her hand out to him.] Would you...dance with me?
no subject
I'd love to... jutht a warning though, I kinda thuck at thith.
[Sollux chuckles a bit. He figures he's doing a pretty good job of appearing calm, considering how nervous he is. He takes a deep breath as he leads her toward the dance floor, trying his best to just remember how to do this so he doesn't look like a total idiot and embarrass them both...]

[Two of them had been at a previous Homecoming, in fact. It was always a bit startling to remember how long she had been here. She follows him, looking around at the others on the dance floor. All are vaguely familiar faces, but only a handful are ones that she knows personally.]
But at least this time I'm not wearing heels so hopefully if I step on you it won't hurt. [She raised her skirt a tiny bit to reveal that she had her usual sneakers on before dropping them so they were obscured.] But hopefully we won't have to worry about that at all.
no subject
Hopefully. [One more deep breath and a warm smile later, and he places his other hand on her waist. He's probably a little stiff as he starts leading her into the dance, and his blush doesn't seem to be going anywhere.]
no subject
I think we've got it! Not bad fur a couple of rookies, hee. [Dancing is one thing that is growing on her, at least like this. It's a nice moment to share with someone--affectionate, fun, and simple.]
Thank you by the way...fur bidding on me. That was really nice of you and I'm glad we're getting time to spend together.
no subject
Yeah, I think we've got the hang of it. [He blushes a bit at her next words.] Oh, y-you don't need to thank me... I jutht figured, I wanted to thpend thome time with thomeone I knew. And we never really talked much after all the nonthenth with thgrub either... [His eyes sort of wander off at this. Thinking back, he hadn't really talked with Nepeta much at all, even before Sgrub. Well, he hadn't really talked a lot with anyone but Karkat and Aradia back then, but all the same.]

Sollux in particular, however, was someone she wished she had gotten to know better. She recalled how perigrees ago there had been another Sollux here, older and from a universe that had played out very differently than theirs. He was someone she had grown very attached to and fond of, and it made her wonder why she never really took the time to get to know Sollux better before.]
You're right about that. Kind of weird that we haven't after everything we've been through together, but I guess now is our chance to catch up on everything. [She gives him a lopsided grin and in a feigned snooty voice she said] So Mr. Sollicks Captor! Pray do tell me more about yourself, fur I fear I know little!
no subject
Thertainly, Mith Nepeta Leijon, what ith it you would like to know?
[Between the funny voice and the lisp he probably sounds downright hilarious.]
no subject
Well I know you're super good at computers and stuff--but what all do you like to do? And what was it like growing up in a. Communal hive was it?
no subject
Well, mothtly I jutht thtick to programming, and playing a few gameth now and then. I gueth I'm a bit interethted in ruinth and thtuff too... but I haven't done much involving that thinthe Aradia... Y'know.
[Not wanting to make this all glum, he quickly reassumes a cheerful tone and continues.]
Ath for the Hive Thtemth... They're interethting. Motht of the trollth who live in them jutht keep to themthelveth though. Probably cauthe thothe are the only kindth of trollth who can live nearby without killing each other. Or at leatht making a meth of their quadrentth... [He chuckles a bit at this.]
no subject
His next comment, however, brought a wry smile to her face.]
I think that's a constant no matter what the species--at least the latter. There always seems to be some kind of romance or drama happening around here. And when not there is Miss Tattler who like to make up stuff and post it to the network.
[Nepeta couldn't claim to be the biggest fan of Miss Tattler because her upkeep on the relationships was just atrocious]
What got you into that stuff. The purrogramming I mean?
no subject
Thoundth interethting to thay the leatht.
[At her other question, he grins wide and chuckles.]
That'th a bit of a long thtory really... My luthuth needth to eat mind honey, right? Tho I needed to keep a bunch of beeth, to keep him under control and keep the other trollth from yelling at me. Ath I figured out how to organithe them better, one of the other trollth there thowed me a little about apiculture networkth, and I figured out a bunch of other thtuff to uthe the beeth for, to run computerth and therverth and thtuff. It jutht kind of... went from there I gueth.
no subject
That's purrty amazing. [She spoke sincerely and gave him a small smile, and of course she couldn't help but tease him a little] And it's kinda cute that you got into it to help out your lusus like that.
no subject
Ehehe... I thuppothe. What about you? I don't really know much about what you do all the time. Or did, I thuppothe.
[All Sollux really knew about her, hobby-wise, was that she enjoyed painting her walls with the blood of dead animals, and roleplaying. He was sure there was more to her than that, since his most reliable source had been Karkat after all, and he may have been a tad biased due to the cat-troll's infatuation with him. Briefly Sollux wonders if this, too, is still a thing. Perhaps he'll ask at some point.]

To be honest, back home on Alternia, I didn't really do a lot. Since I lived out in the wild a lot of my day to day lifestyle was just doing everything I needed to survive. Hunting food, finding ways to preserve it, making sure my cave was purroperly purrtected, foraging, making tools. That kind of stuff.
But I did like talking with everyone when I had the chance, and I did like roleplaying. [She laughed a little] And shipping. I loved shipping people. I use to have a wall in my cave where I had every pawsible combination of all our furriends and kept track of what was canon and what wasn't.
no subject
That'th... different I thuppothe. Do you thtill do that? The thipping I mean.
