Graduation Ball

[Night has fallen on Balamb Garden; the halls of Garden are mostly deserted besides the stray student walking about, and even the usual faculty members are missing from their posts around the school. There's a certain festive energy through the air, the source coming from the Ballroom cheerily decorated located on the second floor.

At exactly 2100, as soon as the dinner rush ends, the Garden chime sounds and the intercom clicks on. The Headmaster speaks to the Garden.
]

The Graduation Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom.

I repeat, the Graduation Ball is now beginning. Your attendance is requested at [2F] Ballroom. The dance will run until 2400. Students leaving the ball after curfew are to return to their dorms immediately.

[After the announcement, the intercom falls silent. The faint sound of music can be heard from the second floor of the building.]

( Mod note: You may participate in the dance in comments to this post, or opt to make your own new post/log.

The dance isn't mandatory, so students that choose not to attend won't be punished. The Headmaster, Garden faculty and even some of the instructors are all present at the dance, so troublemakers are free to roam until 2400. The dance itself will last from 2100-2400 in the second floor ballroom and the music will be the same kind of upbeat peppy orchestrated pieces that the game used. Caterers will roam offering drinks and refreshments to attendants, as well a stationary stand for punch and food is offered.

Newly graduated SeeDs are required to wear their uniforms. Otherwise, the occasion is black tie. All inhabitants of Garden are welcome to the festivities.

Should players have any questions left unanswered feel free to ping the mods on AIM or via PM. )

[Rose had no interest in the ball as well - she wasn't in the mood for social gatherings at the moment, and the people it was celebrating weren't particularly close to her. and yet she was too full of restless energy to remain in her dorm.

so she did what any troubled young girl would do in the circumstances - take her kitten (Duchess Madeline le Mewfus, thank you very much) out for a walk in the deserted halls. there's a jingle from a cat toy as it rolls into the first floor, with the Duchess following close behind. Rose is slower to emerge, taking several minutes to appear behind her charge.]

Oh hello!

[Now who did this kitten belong to? Nepeta couldn't tell if it was one of the dozens she and Greece had snuck in to give out to people. She grinned at it, and one of the cats on her lap bounced out to give it a curious sniff.

When Rose appears, she widens her eyes at her in surprise and grins, tail swishing happily]

Hi Rose! [She had been vaguely aware of the presence of the lavender eyed human, but had never really come around to saying hi to her despite the fondness she felt towards the other]

[identity profile] bookshrew.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
[the Duchess sniffed curiously back at the strange cat as she owner crosses her arms and gives Nepeta a wry smile. another troll - one who seemed familiar with her, at that. she didn't know why she was surprised anymore]

Hello. I take it you're not one for festivities, or that the bouncer is rather strict about keeping animal companions out of the ballroom.
moirailcompass: (that they wouldn't let him keep)

[personal profile] moirailcompass 2011-10-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
[She shook her head and returned her gaze to the kitten.]

Much, much too furmal. Besides it doesn't seem like Homecoming was all that long ago so I don't see why there have to be so many! [She'd much prefer something more casual, much smaller with her small group of friends.]

What about you? [Rose seemed so elegant and sophisticated--like Kanaya. She seemed like the sort who would fit fine in a fancy dress and amongst that sort of crowd. Not that Nepeta claimed to know her very well, but she looked like she would.]

The social calendar isn't complete unless the truly accomplished debutante feels faintly nauseous from the whirling parade of galas she's forced to march through.

[she gazes in the direction of the ballroom, lips quirking into a slight frown] I'm not in the correct mental state for a party at the moment. Besides, I don't know the guests of honor well enough to care whether or not I put in an appearance.
moirailcompass: (because a cat's the only cat)

[personal profile] moirailcompass 2011-10-11 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Not in the correct mental state? That didn't sound particularly good.]

Is there something bothering you?

[identity profile] bookshrew.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[she rolls her eyes. more like several somethings, but fuck if she'll ever talk about it] Of course not. I simply don't feel like attending a draining event.
moirailcompass: (Everybody's pickin' up)

[personal profile] moirailcompass 2011-10-11 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She gives Rose a skeptical look, but doesn't press it. For now, at least. B||]

Well if you're not too busy you're more than welcome to join us! We were just looking at the garden one of the purrfesors is growing. It looks like he's got some nice tea leaves sprouting up there. [She had been considering pilfering some but....that's probably against the rules. Isn't it.]

[identity profile] bookshrew.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't be averse to keeping your company for a bit, thank you. [she leans over a little to look at the plants]

Fresh tea is certainly something I've missed in the past. I wonder if this will be made available to the general populace when the time is right.
moirailcompass: (the very next day)

I hope so! It's always hard to find a good shop in the city. [Mostly in part because she always felt a bit awkward with all the stares she got for being a troll.]

These places we go to are always so big, and so easy to get lost in. But some of them are kinda purrty. Like the last one we were in.

There's something to be said for the quaint atmosphere of a seaside town, particularly its ability to give varied avenues for solitary exploration and the reflecting on one's thoughts.

I can't exactly hold the same fond regard for their selections of tea leaves, however. The adage about doing something right yourself holds true even in new universes.
moirailcompass: (I think that I am next)

[personal profile] moirailcompass 2011-10-21 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! [In fact Nepeta had done just that, a night not so long ago. Back when she was still under...whatever it was that had given people various powers]

Did you see the long train tracks that went over the ocean? They said that it stretches all the way to another continent. I don't like water much but I almost wanted to see how far I could get on it. It looks so peaceful and purrty. [The wanderlust that so often sent her off looking for the Fountain of Cute back home had in no way diminished. While she was slowly becoming more accustomed to this place, she very often had spurts of restless.]

It would be a lovely walk, albeit whilst dodging locomotives along a structure that sounds wholly impractical. I imagine that it would be a wonderful target should someone wish to cause serious trouble in this world. [practical as always, Rose. just appreciate the goddamned architecture]
