001 [Action] Lobby!

[Have a perplexed, out of place Ryu.  His attention is on a piece of paper in his hands, trying to make heads or tails of the situation at hand.  The whole school thing was new to him, as, hey, farming communities don't really need education, they just need able bodies and sharp tools.  Granted, he was deeper in the woods away from them, but it all fit together either way.  He hadn't even begun exploring the school, let alone his own room.  Any passerbys might notice a fishing pole leaning against the railing of the main walkway.  It looked just like his clothing, in that it had seen a lot of time on the road.]

...Out of the frying pan, and into the fire, I guess.

[ She'd already been here for the first quarter, but the idea of the school still felt foreign to her. On her way to the cafeteria for something to eat, she paused at the unfamiliar person in the lobby. So, naturally, she padded over towards him. ]

Huh? Oh... Hello. Are you a student here?

[He wasn't sure if she could help or not, but any port in a storm.]

[There's something one doesn't see every day, even in a place like this. Someone who looks like a fighter, stands like a fighter...And is carrying a fishing pole. Obviously, that bears closer investigation...And also saying something.]

[No, that isn't phrased as a question; it's a statement. Quiet. This and pointing swords at people is how he says 'hi.']

That obvious, huh? [He looked up at the newcomer with a sheepish smile.]

I've never seen a place this big, it makes a castle seem like my old home. I'm afraid I'm a bit lost.

[No smiling from Oswald, unfortunately. He hasn't quite settled into a glare yet, though; probably because that fishing pole still looks flat out bizarre to him. Enough that he has no problem with completely changing subjects.]

...And what is the purpose of that?

[He's still staring right at the object, and hasn't really taken his eyes off it.]

This? [Ryu follows his gaze and motions with one hand to make sure he meant the rod.] I fish in my spare time. It's relaxing.

[Oswald? Relaxing? That's like commanding him to fly!

Well, that and growing up in a build-a-city-in-a-forest nation that has no fishing industry to speak of.]

"The only purpose it has is to be...Relaxing? There's nothing else practical about it?"

[Rion's initial thought is 'who are you talking to'? This might be because, as a mute kid, he has mastered the art of Internal Protagonist Dialogue in a way that only few can. Squall would be proud, if he were meta enough to acknowledge that such a talent existed, and not :| enough to just go 'Whatever'.

He's got funny-colored hair. This means he's an offworlder. And he doesn't look recognizable (Rion would recognize someone who looked like they put that much gel in their hair with that color.)

M-maybe he can help, though. So the mute little derp wanders over towards Ryu, looking at him questioningly.]

[Ryu glances up at the new arrival, feeling a strange sense of familiarity that he eventually shakes off. If Rion looked close enough, the scrap of paper has Ryu's dorm listing, and potential classes hastily scribbled down in English.]

Are you a student here? I'm afraid this place has me a little lost.

[... Rion responds with no words, but with the prompt pulling out of a whiteboard, which he begins to write on. (Note that he's writing so Ryu can see it, which means he's writing upside down. Despite this, it's still very legible.)]

I'm a cadet here too. Where are you trying to go?

[He found the board a bit peculiar, but he was in a new world. No need to question any of their customs.]

I only recently arrived, so I was trying to get my bearings. This place is a bit bigger than I'm used to.

Well, you're in the lobby right now. Where are you trying to go? There should be a directory somewhere nearby.

Having walked through the Desert of Death for almost a week, I guess a better comparison would be a freezer. The air feels great here.

You find a lot of strange places with stranger names when you're a drifter. I haven't settled somewhere in years.

[The way he spoke about it made him sound a lot older and more well-traveled than he looked.]

Even so, I haven't seen anything that compared to this place. It's massive, probably even bigger than the city of Wyndia.

[Over comes the Commander who'd been watching Ryu for a few moments. It was more than obvious that the poor Cadet seemed a little lost, so Squall was doing his fatherly duty to help them along their way.]

I'm afraid this place is a bit bigger than I'm used to. I went out to get a lay of the land, so to speak... I feel a little silly, to be honest, I expected to get lost in the Desert, but not in a building.
