001 [Action] Lobby!
[Have a perplexed, out of place Ryu. His attention is on a piece of paper in his hands, trying to make heads or tails of the situation at hand. The whole school thing was new to him, as, hey, farming communities don't really need education, they just need able bodies and sharp tools. Granted, he was deeper in the woods away from them, but it all fit together either way. He hadn't even begun exploring the school, let alone his own room. Any passerbys might notice a fishing pole leaning against the railing of the main walkway. It looked just like his clothing, in that it had seen a lot of time on the road.]
...Out of the frying pan, and into the fire, I guess.

[He had to whistle appreciatively, turning his body to take in the whole area.]
This is a whole other story. Oh... [His attention returned to Tina, hopefully he wasn't hurling too many questions her way.]
What's the training center like?
no subject
No, I don't mind. [ Better her than Ryu coming across one of those rude girls that don't like the newcomers. ] We can go to the training center first, and you can see for yourself.
[ So saying, she sets off, pointing in another direction. ] Oh, the library is just over there - it has a pretty big selection of things to read.
no subject
[He stood up to follow her, gathering his fishing pole as well.]
Really? I've never been to a library before. We didn't have them where I grew up. [Note: Momo's lab isn't counted as a library. It's counted as a death trap.]
no subject
What's that? [ It didn't look very ...weapony. But you never know, people have weird fighting methods here. Another pause. Yeah, she couldn't say she remembered seeing any death trap/libraries where she was from either. Nothing like this one anyway. ]
Really... it's a nice place to go as long as you're quiet. I like to go there sometimes, on my free periods. Although to be honest, more often I tend to go to the Training Center or down to Balamb Town when we're there.
no subject
[Her question, to be honest, was a bit puzzling. Who hadn't seen someone fish before? Then again, for all he knew, Terra could be from a place with an endless desert, or something he couldn't even begin to fathom.]
I don't think I'll have a problem being quiet, but the library sounds too stuffy for my tastes.
no subject
[ She points at the fishing pole curiously. ]
I don't know how ...not intimidating it makes you look, really - you could still probably do some damage with it if you wanted to. Not as much as a sword might of course...
[ Terra hasn't seen people do a lot of things before. *sniff* While she certainly heard of the practice, from reading about Fisherman's HOrizon, she'd never seen it for herself. ]
Oh -- well isn't that the point of a library? To have a lot of stuff?
[ She never gets the slang. But she's a-leadin' Ryu down the hall to the Training Center now. ]
no subject
Yeah, but with this, the only creatures I look threatening to are the fish.
[Er... He was getting flashbacks to meeting Nina as a child. She didn't have much luck with slang, either.]
Well, yes, they have a lot of books, but I mean it feels... Oh, how can I describe it? Closed off. Not a lot of space to move.
no subject
I suppose so... but then I think if you were swinging this at someone they'd be pretty intimidated either way. What's this string and handle for?
[ Indicating the line and reel of course. She grabs hold of the door to the training center, pausing at the explanation. ]
Oh, I see what you mean. Well, they do allow us to take books out with the expectation of returning them. You can read them outdoors if necessary. Anyway, this is the Training Center.
no subject
Oh, hold on... [Reaching into a pack on his belt, he withdraws a small metal hook and holds it carefully in the palm of his hand]
This goes on the end of the line with bait on it. You cast the hook into water, and wait for a fish to bite it. If you're good, you can hook the fish, and reel it in. [And while he's explaining this, he's motioning to the relevant parts of the fishing rod. Of course, his attention is drawn away from fishing 101 when he gets a good look at the Training Center.]
...Who knew they had a place like this tucked away?
no subject
Bait? [ Pause. Bait = Monster Bait = Stuff Monsters Eat so... Bait for Fish would be fish food like... ] You mean worms?
[ She pokes at the hook tentatively, frowning. ] ... it looks painful. They just...bite right down?
[ She can't help but smile at the reaction to the Training Center though. ] I know. It's nice, isn't it?
[ ... and shortly after she says that, there is a thunderous roar of a T-Rex in the distance. ]
no subject
[Ryu spots the frown, hoping he's not making a terribly bad impression as some sort of fish murderer or something.] If the bait is right. After that, it's me versus whatever I catch. Sometimes the line breaks, sometimes I can reel them in. It all de--
[And that roar cuts him off, immediately snapping his attention to the direction of the sound. His posture changes defensively, even if he's currently unarmed.]
What in the world was that?
no subject
Hm? [ The roar? Oh. ] It's a dinosaur. A tyrannosaurus rex, they call it. It's very big, and very dangerous, but they usually don't venture this way - they tend to stay deeper into the center. But there are large bugs and plant beasts here that you can fight for practice too.
no subject
...Sounds like something that lived in the Desert. [Granted, he never really had firsthand experience with dinosaurs, but Manmo was close enough in size and sound.]
I guess that means I'd see one sooner or later, huh?
no subject
Yes, probably, although it's advised that you try to avoid them - at least in the beginning. [ Pause. ] Oh, there is a nice place deeper in that a number of students tend to go to. They call it a 'Secret Spot' or something, but it's not very secret.
no subject
[He paused, raising an eyebrow]
Why do people go there?
no subject
[ Ah well, it wasn't important, really. She considers the question, because she didn't know what was so special about it other than the view. ]
I... guess they like the view. Other than that I... don't really know.
no subject
[To him, it was just one more trip. After all, he had taken to drifting pretty well once the whole mess with Myria had been put to rest.]
no subject
[ She steps back towards the hall. ] Here, I'll show you the rest of the tour. I believe ... up from here is the parking lot. [ She wrinkles her nose clearly expressing her opinion of -those- things. ]
Do you want to see it?
no subject
...What's a parking lot? [More terms he had never heard before! Momo would be having a field day here.] May as well learn what it is.
no subject
It's a room where they keep metal contraptions called cars. Things people can ride around in.
I'll show you but it smells awful. [ Or maybe Terra's heightened senses just makes it especially difficult for her. In any case, she slips out of the training center and makes her way back to the lobby, heading up to the parking lot. She doesn't go in though - rather, she points the way. ]
no subject
What does it smell like?
no subject
Can't you smell it? It... turns my stomach that smell. I think they called it gasoline.
no subject
...That's vile! Why would anyone even use these things?
no subject
I understand they use them because they are more convenient and faster than Chocobos for travel ... but I can't bear them. I'd rather [ Fly ] ... I'd rather ride a chocobo, or walk.
Being inside one of those things is a bit too much like being in a cage.
