MORNING, QUAD: Ice carving festival

Contestants all carved their ice blocks with care
In the hopes that Edea would see their flair.

[Amidst the snow on the quad, ice blocks and basic tools are laid out for people to participate in the ice sculpting contest! Para-magic, GFs, and powers are all allowed; just don't mess with other people's ice.]

[See this? That's what Gintoki's making, except with ice instead of snow.

How can anyone possibly one-up this piece of art?]

[Oh, sure, that provokes some snickering. And yet, there always has to be someone to take offense. Always. In this case a sour-faced cadet with her hair in a tight bun, who marches over and places her hands squarely on her hips.]

Ugh.

Oh sure, make a giant phallus to represent the school. Take this seriously! This isn't the place for scultured bathroom stall graffiti!

[fisheyes]

[Gintoki reels back. He is offended, madam, utterly offended!]

Oi, how dare you! This isn't a phallus! This is the traditional Shonenjumpo Totem of my religion! What exactly are you saying about my patron gods, you bigot?!

Nice ice wang. It's got a certain je ne sais quois to it.

[Gintoki doesn't know what the hell that last part means, but the tone sounds complimentary.]

Aa, thanks. It was inspired by the ancient sculptures of the Boner dynasty, with a hint of the more modern Dong era artwork. It might be a little too cultured for these guys, but I live to educate.

[This is a terrible time, but then again, Gintoki's a terrible person, so there's a certain sort of symmetry there.]

[A package slides across the ground, lubricated by some ice, to bump against his feet. The secret Santa who slid it quickly darts off so as not to be seen!]

[TO GINTOKI, FROM "SECRET SANTA" reads the tag, so as to thwart any attempts at comic confusion as to its intended recipient.]

[Gintoki's stepped back, fairly proud of his crime against decenc- sorry, his be-yoooot-iful artwork, when something bumps into his foot.

He looks down.

... On the bright side, it doesn't appear to be ticking, so Gintoki shrugs, picks it up and reads the tag.]

You don't have to put the 'secret', I guessed that part.

[Despite his asshole words, he's first glancing around for the giver, then ripping the paper off. He's not intrigued, honest. Really.]

[Since discovering a slight talent for laser welding, Mikuru has been contemplating constructive uses for laser eyes. Her latest attempt: Lasering the details into her ice sculpture of a sleeping cat. So anyone sculpting near her is subject to constant shouts of:] Mikuru Beam!

[... it's not as huge as the icon makes it appear; she's deliberately lasering with very low power.]

[Standing idly by is everyone's least-favorite samurai, ready to give non-constructive criticism. Sorry.]

Yeah, yeah, it's nice and all, but is it art?

[Pause.

[Frown at the ice sculpture.] If I'd drawn something like this for ART 102, it would have been graded as art...

Woah, you have laser eyes!? That's bitchin' awesome!

Um... Thanks! [It's not a word she'd use, but the "awesome" makes her decide it's a compliment.] It's my first time trying to use them for something like this.

[This little block of ice? It just won't do. Lina's saved the world once with ice, so clearly winning a little ice-sculpture competition should be easy-peasy! ...ignoring that she had help for the world-saving and encasing a monster in ice is completely different than carving something out of it.

Standing several feet away from where her block is, she raises her hands, firing several blue beams at the block, making it grow in size.]

Aqua Create! Freeze Arrow! Aqua Create! Freeze Arrow!

[This goes on for a few moments until the block is several times the size it was when she started. Lina cracks her knuckles, then rubs her hands together with a cocky chuckle - it's been a while since she could really cut loose and have some fun with her magic.]

[Gourry is spectating rather than helping -- though he's sure Lina will draft him to assist in her endeavors before too long.]

You don't need that much ice, do ya, Lina? What are you sculpting, anyway?

AFTERNOON, FIRST FLOOR MAIN CIRCLE: School fair

Craftspeople lined the first floor with stalls
Selling baking and jewelry, playthings and shawls.

[And other handmade goods. Characters may run their own stalls selling their own items, and can keep the profits. This event is open to the public, with townspeople both running stalls and checking out the Garden folks'.]

[Who wants festive winter wreaths? Aerith's got hers for sale, some bright oranges and yellows to brighten up your rooms. It was tough to wrangle things together on such short notice, but she's got it. Now it's just a matter of selling her goods with her old confidence---harder than it seems, after everything.]

Winter flowers, right here! Don't worry, they'll withstand the cold. Five gil a piece?

[Wandering through the booths was somewhat interesting, seeing the different things people made. But it's the flower shop he stops at, giving the flower girl a lopsided smile, mostly because of the black eye he wore.]

Hey, Aerith. Got anything good today?

Well then! You look brighter today. Flowers, I see?

[Slughorn pauses and makes a show of examining them.]

[As is inevitable for these events, Champloo has appeared, with a table groaning under the weight of food piled above it. In this case, he has prepared holiday food -- one could buy an entire meal fit for a Christmas special here, if they were so inclined!]

[In between running around with a camera taking photos of everything, Russell has his own stall! He's selling handmade dart sets with feather fletched darts and painted dart boards. While waiting for customers, he's preparing more feathers, trimming each quill and then thinning them down.]

[Gaomon has a small table set up with some tea balls, a kettle, and a number of small containers of loose tea leaves and other tea ingredients before him. The sign:]

NIGHT, BALLROOM: Art and talent show

The rich and the artsy all gathered around
To buy artwork and check out that B-Garden sound.

[Despite that poor rhyme, talents do not need to be musical; feel free to (non-destructively) show off any powers on the temporary stage too. Artwork including paintings and quilts are on display for people to buy, with proceeds going to charity. Volunteers are needed to sell artwork and serve refreshments. This event is open to the public, with people from outside Garden watching the talent show and admiring and hopefully buying the art.]

[There are a few people from Balamb in attendance, dotted around here and there, many gathered in small groups. This man, however, is on his own, sticking by the paintings.]

Creativity? Pah. Not a jot of that here - s'pose I can't expect better from a bunch of kids and aliens. It's all just a bunch of primary colors thrown on paper!

Shame, shame. Kids these days haven't got no style.
