AU event open mingle post

[For some people around Balamb Garden, it's an ordinary day. Others may notice a difference in those people, be it in personality or appearance or the memories they claim have happened, but there are still classes and clubs and missions to get on with despite these odd changes in people.

[One of these things is not like the others...]

Mod note, to reiterate:

From December 10th through December 24th, characters may be replaced with AU versions of themselves. This can be any level of AU -- a small change to a world-shattering one.

AU characters retain their game memories and CR to the best of the ability of their AU to accommodate it. If you want to sit down with your fellow players and dissect just how your CR would have changed, that's fine! (Here is a place to do so.) But applying the MST3K Mantra is also perfectly acceptable too.

Your characters do not have to be affected at the event start, nor do they need to be affected for the entire duration of the event. This way, your regular characters can interact with AUs, your AU can interact with regular characters, and your AUs can interact with AUs.

You may use more than one AU per character if you wish.

Characters will have their full memory from the AU experience at the end of the event. If their AU ends before the event ends, they can remember it or not as you choose up until the event ends.

The event is not mandatory. You don't have to AU your character if you don't wish to.

[In the current weather, apart from a few seagulls screaming at each other from atop one of the benches, the Quad at lunchtime is relatively empty. This seems to suit the black-haired cadet hunched over by himself at a different bench just fine; judging from the number of textbooks stacked up next to him, either he's been there for a while already or he's planning to be. He wasn't in any classes this morning, that's for sure - which might be unusual, because he bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain someone who was meant to be in them. The hairstyle, the height (probably the only important detail), the irritated frown on his face as he looks up and glances behind him at the noise...

But this can't be Ed, because Ed doesn't have a real right arm. For that matter, he doesn't have any arm that can without warning shoot out of its sleeve, elongating in a blur too quick for an untrained eye to follow but not quickly enough to avoid looking grotesque, then just as suddenly snap back to its original length, its hand now wrapped firmly around a seagull's neck.

Surprised by the burst of movement, the rest of the flock scatters, leaving the area quiet again.

Meanwhile, the kid at the bench lets the bird drop to the ground - its head is at an odd angle, and it isn't moving - before going right back to reading. Nothing out of the ordinary here.]

[Luckily, the pony soaring overhead missed much of the violence -- because otherwise he'd be in for a lot worse than what he's getting, which to be fair is pretty bad once she drops out of the sky, looks at him, and then starts giggling.]

Oh gosh, did you have a bad run-in with a bottle of black ink!?

But as confusing a remark as it is, it's not interesting enough to provoke more than a glance sideways. He looks back down and idly turns a page.]

[Rapunzel doesn't immediately recognize Ed with the darker hair, but she supposes that can't be too surprising. She is still certain others are staring at her with her hair length and colour changing. It's not surprising either to find him reading and surrounded by books. Apparently she must have arrived just briefly after Ed killed the bird, but she does briefly stare at it on the ground before turning her gaze back to him with a small smile.]

Ed?

[He heard those footsteps from some distance away and almost immediately resolved to ignore them, burying his nose even further into the textbook...

...but that goes out the window the moment she speaks up.

That name... where the hell could this idiot have...?

He doesn't turn around just yet, but there isn't a single part of him that isn't suddenly on edge - and that goes doubly for his voice.]

[Tseng's dressed decidedly differently than usual, gone is his usual zippered suit or SeeD uniform to be replaced with a pair of shin length black pants and matching sleeveless turtleneck. His feet are bare despite the chill, a length of fabric drapes across him from one shoulder to the other, held together at a hip by a silver pin. The fabric is woven in blues and pale violet with silver strands shot throughout.

His hair is lose down his back and there's a definite shift from his usual somber seriousness, there's a note of happiness to him that's decidedly different.

He can be found throughout Garden, walking the halls and chatting with staff and students easily or using a staff and ice magic in the training center.

He's definitely more approachable looking now, funny how that works huh?]

[Maria smiles reflexively as she passes the Instructor in the halls -- but when she actually processes what he's wearing, and his easy smile, she stops dead in her tracks to stare.]

Oh wow, sir.

[There's a little appreciation in that surprise, too.]

[He grins back, having gotten used to the odd looks.]

You're looking well yourself, Maria.

[He's stopped as well, stance easy.]

[Aerith happens to catch some of this from a distance. Is Tseng...flirting? THIS IS BRAND NEW INFORMATION. She watches a little more, then waits to catch up with Maria.]

Someone caught your eye?

[Aerith's found a nice yellow cloak for herself, and so she can be easily tracked as she searches Garden. She wants to check in on her ally, and she looks surprised.]

You look freer than a bird. What's happened?

[He blinks at her, recognition taking a moment to kick in. He's seen her around Garden and he's pretty sure they had a conversation about something but it's not his usual almost creepy knowledge about whether or not the person approaching him is friend or foe.]

Freer? I don't really know what you mean Miss.

[He laughs though, genuine.]

I seem to have found myself replacing a scarier version of myself.

[Oh, another person who appreciates bare feet!]

Doesn't it feel DELICIOUS to have your little toes touching the air like that?! RIGHT?!

[Oh, there's Tseng! Glad to see a familiar place in this weird world, Reno walked up to him.]

Hey, Tseng! How's it going? What's with that get-up?

[Tseng just blinks, he's got no idea who you are Reno and it's a pretty blatent expression of confusion... but he's still going to be polite.]

I'm well, preparing for the festival that they're holding in a few days.

[His laugh is far more genuine than Reno's probably ever heard it.]

You're the second or third person to ask about it.

[Rapunzel's change is most evident in her hair. It is now much, much shorter, and darker in colour, now brown rather than the lighter golden blonde it was previously. She is carrying herself differently as well, seeming much more...elegant in some ways, more assured of herself than she had been. That, and yes those are shoes on her feet.

She can be found in the library, reading while eyeing a certain librarian, or around the hallways, helping without her hair using cure magic in the infirmary.]

[She bites her lip, brushing a short brown strand behind her hair. Rapunzel's hair was cut years ago now, when her parents noticed it grew long enough for her to sit on or get to ankle length, which was not really practical. They figured the colour had something to do with the flower, but never realized it's full potential of healing or keeping someone young, as Gothel had done.]

[ Eugene Fitzherbert is busy putting barcodes on all the new books that are coming in. He's wearing thin-rimmed glasses (there's little splashes of color where someone had splattered paint on them) which he pokes up and brown the bridge of his nose as he examines the barcodes.

Yes, he takes notice of the Princess (how can he not) but respectfully does not bother her reading. While he may love the beautiful Rapunzel, he doesn't want to impede on her studies. ]

[That can't be Mikuru, yeah? Mikuru tries not to wear her SeeD uniform skirt unless she absolutely has to because it's so short, and she certainly doesn't wear it with black heels. Besides, this confident, self assured young lady walking down the halls looks maybe a few years older than Mikuru. It's hard to picture her spilling soup everywhere.]

Whichever reason has the highest priority right now - even he isn't sure - the fact remains that Ed just stopped in the middle of the lobby to gawk at Mikuru, with a complete lack of subtlety. And he's thoroughly confused about why there's anything for him to gawk at in the first place.]

Yep, in a world where Discord won and the Elements of Harmony are just folly, Pinkie Pie is the Grumpy Witch of the West. The once approchable Pinkie Pie looks far less so. She's busy tossing out a few momentos of her friends that had left.]
