Fourth wall mingle post

[For the regular denizens of Balamb Garden, it's an ordinary day...until more off-worlders start showing up, for only a few hours at a time. Unsure what to make of these more temporary visitors, the Garden faculty is holding off on registering them as cadets or offering them jobs.

[Maybe someone you know might turn up?]

Mod note, to reiterate:
  • 4th wall characters can only be seen at certain hours of the day. They may appear for two hours a day, or four... or seen only in the early morning... the time doesn't matter to us, but they're not permanently here. They may return to Garden again through the rest of the month, but they're not around 24/7.
  • Like apped characters, 4th wall characters can't be ridiculously-sized. Transformers, Gundams, and similar concepts/characters will become human-sized (and in the case of mechas, not allowed altogether.)
  • Players (like you and me) are not allowed to visit Garden. We're breaking the 4th wall, not destroying it altogether!
  • Apart from this post, 4th wall characters are free to reply to open posts in [community profile] witchesreign or open logs in [community profile] concoursec. Apped players have the option of closing their posts to in-game characters only.
  • All BBS posts are locked to in-game characters only. 4th wall characters do not have access to any sort of logged in posts unless they hijack someone else's log-in---and in those cases, we need to know this beforehand.

For those unfamiliar with the setting, here is more info on Balamb Garden's facilities and layout. Additionally, some of the NPCs around and some player characters may be wearing Balamb Garden's cadet or SeeD uniform.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask on the OOC post or through the mod channels ([personal profile] wrmods or [plurk.com profile] witchesreign).

[Yes, it IS a little awkward talking to Hope now that he's gone from gangly kid to substantially older than Snow, seemingly without any time passing in between. Thanks for asking!]

Try not to... We didn't all wake up at the same time?

Well, it's been lonely at times. ( Oh boy, where to begin with this long explanation... )

When I said it had been awhile, I truly did mean that. Thirteen years, actually. Yes, we did all wake up at the same time but that's when something strange happened. Light vanished, pulled somewhere far beyond our reach...

Then you left to find her, then Sazh and Dajh vanished one day too and Serah as well. I met Serah again three years ago; she's traveling through time, you know. Fixing the paradoxes that have surfaced throughout the timelines in order to find Light and bring her back.

Whoa, whoa. [Snow holds up a hand to stop Hope, putting his other hand to his head in confusion.] Start over. The only part that made sense was me looking for Light. You're saying something happened to time?

[At least his own role in the process isn't confusing him; he already knows that people can appear here sooner or later than he did himself.]

To put it simply, yes, something is quite wrong with time. As it is, we're heading toward our world and humanity's destruction with what has happened.

The timeline is twisting and creating paradoxes, which are what we've named the anomaly that cause a number of different things to occur. For example: two timelines overlapping, monsters appearing where they don't belong or just an overall impossible occurrence.

[When his hand drops to his side again, it's in a fist.]

That's the same thing that's happening here. Monsters, crazy things happening, Lightnings that aren't Lightning. Even -- before she left here, Serah had moved on ahead in time. Different memories, different clothing, it's--

Hope, are there any l'cie left? Pulse or Cocoon, either one.

Sounds like I would fit right in here then. ( A pause. ) But Lightnings that aren't Lightning... ?

But there are no l'Cie that I know of. ( Barring Snow himself, but that he doesn't know about all that. ) There are fal'Cie of Gran Pulse left, but they mostly keep to themselves so I haven't heard anything of them taking on l'Cie again.

Yeah. Imagine a Lightning that went the Cid Raines route.

Hope, let me tell you a little bit about this world and see what you think of it. Starting with, magic is feared here. Real magic, not simulated or copied stuff, only comes from a rare person called a Sorceress. And Sorceresses, according to history, got their power from an ancient powerful being, long ago.

It's... rather hard to imagine really.

( Still, Hope is silent as he listens. Though at first the only thing he can think is how how uncomfortably familiar it sounds. )

You said simulated and copied, so it is possible for people to use... a certain brand of magic here. Its when it naturally occurs that its branded as something to be feared, correct? Is there a way to tell the difference? I imagine those able to use magic naturally are stronger...

It's called 'paramagic'. Basically means drawing magical energy out of monsters or special spots and storing it, so you can cast it later. That's what Garden teaches. [He waves a hand at their surroundings.] Well, one of the things. Another one? Using Guardian Forces. They're creatures, sort of, that you Junction. Give head space too, basically, and while they're attached to you like that you can summon them or use paramagic. Or to make you stronger, faster, tougher...

    [That sound familiar too?]

    ( Terribly so. )

So these Guardian Forces are like our Eidolon, minus the fact that all came naturally for us. Which begs the question, are you still capable of using your own magic or do you have to rely on this... paramagic?

    [personal profile] haha_steelguard 2012-03-15 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only can I use both...

[He lifts his left arm. It's been years since Hope's seen a brand, hasn't it? And yet there's Snow's, right where it belongs, but burned out and white like Fang's was.]

I learned to use the sisters here to do paramagic. I don't even need to use one of the GFs from this world. Though that last part gets a bit confusing, since there's a GF named Shiva.

Something's going on here. I always thought it was weird, but now you're telling me you're having the same problems back home as we are here...

I see, back home groups of people all over have begun showing signs of being able to use magic naturally. I wonder if one day I'll be able to summon Alexander again. ( A chuckle. ) It would be nice to see him.

( Nevertheless, Hope sobers back up at Snow's comment as he gives a slow nod of agreement. )

Mm, it is quite concerning hearing and seeing the similarities between here and our world.

Serah shifts through time, then disappears. Now you're here, and so are a ton of other people... more that I've ever seen before. Something's up.

[He looks at Hope, then breaks his somber worry to grin.]

You remember how to fight, right?

[Of course he does. After everything they'd been through, there's no way Hope would've let those skills slack. If not to live up to Snow's own expectations, then certainly out of respect for Light.]
