[BBS] Resignation Notice

I'll keep this short and sweet.

Today I wrote up a notice of resignation. I've yet to submit it - I will stay through the break to support our cadets, but when we return, I will no longer be part of SeeD, and will be leaving Balamb Garden.

It's been a good couple of years, but I'm officially done.

I have no idea what the hell I'm gonna do. I should have asked before, but can I camp out in your room until I figure something out? I don't actually want to leave everyone, it's just that I can't be part of a group whose commander thinks torturing cadets is a good training exercise.

Do you really think these kids are so frail they can't handle a few monsters? And if so, isn't it better that they learn now where we won't let them get killed than later where that isn't even an option?

Don't assume someone is too weak until they've had a chance to prove themselves.

I can't support SeeD when its commander inflicts this level of mandatory pain on its own untrained cadets, just to prove they can survive it.

You have to understand though, this is kinda the way things go around here. Mind you, not to this extreme but it is an important lesson that we all have to learn.

I don't like it anymore than you do, but there isn't a whole lot that we can do about it.

Besides, don't you think you're underestimating the cadets just a little bit? The cadets have been training since they first enrolled in Garden.

I always have done what I feel is right. It'd be nice if someone'd follow, but I'm not expecting them to.

Well, that's the kicker, figuring out where 'right' falls for me.

On one hand, I understand the point behind this. Being able to deal with pain and the like in a combat situation is important, because this whole SeeD business is pretty dangerous. On the other hand... This could be handled a lot better.

How utterly naive. You must live a fairly lucky life where survival is so easy that pain is a convenience. It is precisely that which the Commander is attempting to protect the students from. On top of learning to handle pain, which can only be learned through realworld experience, they will gain further strength which our enemies--who WILL kill us if they get the chance--will not have.

That you ignore this fact makes you completely naive. We are essentially at war without a battle having yet begun, and we must prepare unless you want those students you hold dear to be executed like sheep at slaughter.

What world do you live in where dying makes your stronger? Because this mission is about learning how to die - that is its explicitly stated purpose. Nobody's going to learn strength from this. There's many who will only learn hopelessness.
