[It had taken some time, but after enough tinkering and watching others, Rin has finally figured out how this technology works. Which is a step in the right direction, right?]
Ugh. How do you people stand this place? It is just absolutely disgusting inside out, no one seems to take any kind of manners about this place and no one seems to believe you if you tell them you deserve some form of respect. Iwas AM still a princess, the next in line to become ruler of the Yellow Country and yet no one around here believes a word of it! I do not appreciate being talked down to as if I am some kind of child who has not a clue as to how the world works, I have studied and I have seen things that many have not seem. I am a capable ruler and am a capable member of the royal family, I do not appreciate being treated in any different manner!
And this... this gallivanting about the place is absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for, if one is here to learn, then they should do everything in their ability to get out of here as soon as possible with all the information necessary. Instead people are leeching off the system like common beggars and making the rest of us seem just as bad. Disgusting. Absolutely and undeniably disgusting.

Also, I think I will call you a commoner. Because that is what you are in this world. You're not going to get the comforts you had as royalty. You'll be packed into a room with a roommate, go to classes, learn how to be a mercenary, and eat cafeteria food. Your clothes will be whatever you can afford or what is given or made for you, and it probably won't be high-end because of our salary. Heck, the store owners from the high-end places probably won't let you through the door.

And I think you will not, nor do I intend to give up a single solitary thing while I am here. I will not be underneath someone's command simply because they are older than me, nor will I allow myself to dirty my hands for someone else's war. They can think as they wish, I am not going to be bossed around due to this ridiculous ranking system that screams military to me. I have never, nor will I ever, be under that ranking and banner.
So, quite frankly, do go impale yourself on something sharp and pointy.

So you can either work here, taking up the generous offer of sponsorship while you earn your keep and sweat like the rest of us, or you're on the streets where people would rather kick you and spit at you than give you even a kind word. Because, you see, here? People are evaluated by being an offworlder or native first, then their skillsets. Very rarely does status seem to effect things.
So go on, leave. Keep that attitude. And enjoy being a homeless little girl on the streets, with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

P.S. For the record? I'm most likely younger than you are. :)

I never said that I wouldn't do anything here, now did I? I'm sure there are other things one could do than just, ugh, fighting of all things. Not everyone can or is capable of being on the front lines by any means, thus it's nothing akin to being practical. Therefore I sincerely and highly doubt that that fact really matters when it comes down to it, but you seem to think that scaring me is going to do a single thing to me. It doesn't. I've almost been killed quite a few times over and some simple and pathetic attempt via words is not going to get under my skin how you seem to think it will.
Nor do I care about your age or your position, in fact I see no reason to give a single care about who, what, or rank that you are by any means.
Thus your attempts are pathetic and are nothing more than just bluster.

As for my age, you're the one who keeps saying you won't listen to those older than you. So I simply pointed out that I am far younger than you to make a point. That being: you will refuse to listen to anyone who isn't treating you like you're some gift from the gods, regardless of their age or rank or skills.
And you may say my attempts are pathetic, but here you are, backpedaling in an attempt to seem in control. It's almost cute. I don't care how many times you've almost died--so have many others. Some do it on a monthly or even daily basis. We are mercenaries, and we risk everything for our own profit. Hacking into databases, assassinations, nitty gritty work that a dainty little flower like you wouldn't be able to stand. We're all trained in combat in case a mission, even a non-combative one, goes wrong. I would think a princess who apparently thinks she knows how the world works would understand that much, but it seems you do, in fact, not. How sheltered you must truly be!

What reason do I have to care if something goes wrong, any intelligent member of royalty would have someone with them at all times for that kind of thing. But that is apparently something you are hardly familiar with, that things do not work the way you seem to think they do. There are people called guards for a reason and trained for that very reason and then there are those who are trained to do things that are not in a combat position. But, once again, clearly you have not a clue as to how things work where I grew up, but I shouldn't expect for you to. Considering you are nothing more than a rude thing who feels it necessary to try and tear down someone due to a difference in systems, how charming, I'm sure.
Len will be here soon enough and I won't have to deal with this any longer.

You don't always get the luxury of going with someone. Often, you may end up on a small enough mission to go alone, because that's all that can be afforded. A single mercenary. So then, you'd be on your own. And if you're not trained in combat, then you're pretty much dead if things go wrong. Or worse--you're captured and tortured for weeks on end.
But go on. Keep trying to act like you know what it's like to come down from your ivory tower and deal with people. Keep saying I'm rude when I have offered you the single greatest asset you can have here: brutal honesty.
It's quite amusing that you still think yourself better than anyone when you are, in fact, acting like a big, spoiled brat throwing a tantrum because she might break a nail or get dust on her dress.

Do continue to tell me how you think I am when you know not a single thing about me other than things I've said while in a state of duress and distress. Because that is clearly the way to judge me when you only know that much and nothing outside of it. Nice to know that rash decisions and judgement about someone because of ranking is still alive and well and that situational things aren't taken into account at all.
But that also comes with me expecting for you to care about anything other than being right in some warped way of meaning. Now, if you will excuse me, I have better things to deal with that your supposed "honesty".
[Really, she's still watching this despite what she says and any hit on her ego will draw her back in about two seconds flat.]

Yes, you're distressed and under duress. But I've found that people show their true colors then--who they really are. As I've said, your situation is exactly the same as mine was when I first arrived. As it is for everyone else when they first arrive. You're not better or worse than anyone, not that you seem to think so. But go on. Run away.
It's probably all you'll ever be good for.
- Instructor Ardos

Take that back right now. [That is all he is getting for the moment, one track mind.]

In this world, Princess, you won't be given the luxury of backing down by running away often. It could easily cost you your life. There is tactical retreat, and there is running because you feel personally insulted. If you want to make it here, you're going to have to learn to separate your emotions from a situation and use strictly logic.

Tactical retreat can come in several forms and avoiding a conflict in a situation where one would not be attacked for backing down can still influence emotion if it comes to it. Seeing what your opponent can do and knowing when a battle has been lost and not embarrassing yourself due to who you are up against is a smarter move than continuing in an unwinnable situation.
Alternatively avoiding a situation going from bad to worse if emotions play more into the answers than you would like. Thus tactical retreats are more than what they appear on the surface.

Anyway, do you need help deciding which classes to take or aid in deciding on a major?
- Instructor Ardos

From the options I was shown I was leaning towards International Business as it sounded closest to what I am used to and did not involve being directly on the front lines all that often.
no subject
I would definitely consider a psychology course, and pay great attention to the history and culture courses. No matter what major, you'll need them.
Combat courses are mandatory. I suggest, over break, you test out weapons offered and find the one most suited to both your body type and strengths.

As for weaponry, what is there? All I have seen back home were bladed weapons, flails, archery, and hammers.

Forgive me if I sound ignorant, but what are firearms?
