[About two weeks before, most people who've talked to Damian received this note in their dorms:]

It's Damian W. & Damian R.'s birthday!
Come celebrate with us on the Quad at 8:00 PM sharp on August 6th
Presents not necessary but schway
we'll provide our own entertainment

[So today's the big day. Damian feels so weird thinking about it, especially since it's not just his birthday anymore - it's his twin's too - and he feels like he's got some kind of responsibility to make it special. He's kept the details on the DL, mainly since it's supposed to be small and kind of not made into a big fuss...

But after sunset today on the Quad, he's arranged for some tables and catered food from Balamb proper for a proper birthday! He carefully sets his present for Ahki down on the table of presents before he steps back and admires his handiwork. It's nothing fancy - just a few decorated tables and a birthday banner he got from god-knows-where - but it's better than nothing. Plus, he even got them a huge sheet cake with their names on it!

Carefully, he pulls out a date and breaks his fast - it's still Ramadan, after all. It's weird, seeing the place so quiet, but it's a small dinner with friends (and party crashers) so it shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully.]

While Damian DID say he kept it small, if you've even talked to him once, you were probably invited. Or you can party crash, there's enough food for everyone. :D]

[Ronnae nodded even as the blush on her cheeks rose.]

Very real, in my world at least, and it seems it's common in these parts too with so much elemental energies being added into their technology. It made it much easier to learn about technology here because of that.

A-and thanks, the family has a good deal of pretty skilled crafters.

[The tech here seemed pretty mundane to him...] I guess. The tech here's pretty outdated by my standards, so it was difficult being limited to what we had at Garden.

As it turns out, the rest of the world isn't much better off.

Really?

[She looked at him with a hint of curiosity as she shifted a bit uncomfortably looking for a way to ask.]

What was your tech like? And your world?

Uh... [Good question. No matter how many times he's explained it before, it doesn't make the question any easier, so Damian fishes in his pocket and pulls out his modified smart phone (it still doesn't have cell service) to show her.]

You know what phones are, right? This is what they look like on Earth, my world. Back home, it was the year 2045, and pretty much every kind of vehicle could fly. We're a lot like this world, but more advanced.

[Ronnae instinctively moves to grab any kind of device he brings out out of excitement but manages to control herself, ending up a bit red faced.]

Oh wow! More advanced?! And I thought this place was pretty out there! I mean, I'm sure we could have mimicked a lot of the tech here if Gobbies and Gnomes would work together more often but alas, rivalry and all that!

I wish I could see it, I bet it's amazing!

It might happen in this world. Not to Earth's extent, but Balamb and the world in general isn't actually that far behind.

[If he notices her red face, he doesn't say anything. Unlike his twin, Damian actually has some tact.]

[She bites her lip a little at the idea of being able to see a shift in tech and advances. She always loved to see that and was happy she had been born in a time of technological boom in her world, so seeing another here makes her really happy.]

I can't wait! Maybe I can help it along too, I've been doing a lot of personal work with the stuff around here and my own personal growth has been pretty steady and good! Lots of new stuff to tinker with.

"Maybe?" I haven't seen anything like your gift. [He shakes his head, almost as if he can't believe what she's saying.] I don't tinker with machines as much as my twin does, but considering the craftsmanship of those things?

I'd be surprised if you didn't advance the tech here even a little bit.

[The compliment certainly left her very red faced and she didn't know what to really do with herself other than shifting timidly in place and looking down a bit embarrassed, hiding her face a little behind her long bangs.]

O-oh... y-you... you really think so? I mean... I'd really like to keep progressing in my trade and... I sense there's a lot of opportunities to do that since there's so much new tech I can incorporate into my own...

T-thanks

[He shrugs.] It's the truth. We're on the edge of technological advances, so I'd be really surprised if we didn't become more tech-savvy in the future.

Plus, we are the military - we'll get the tech before everyone else does. [The others would kill him for saying "military," but Damian doesn't think it's a mercenary organization. Garden's way too strict for mercenaries.]

Oh! You know, you're right... I guess that makes sense.

And that is true, it seems that no matter where you go, the military tends to have the bigger advances technology wise. Most of the time anyways.

It's because we need better tech, whether it's for invading another country or protecting our borders or just rescuing more people in less time.

[Why the crap is he talking about this on his birthday? Day shakes his head and sighs.] But yeah, tech's important, so it's schway that you know it pretty well. ... Have you met my twin yet?

[~~I'm not sure if this is before or after I met his twin, so I'll say that she hasn't?~~ Ronnae shook her head.]

No, not that I know of, not yet anyways. I'm sure I will though!

He's somewhere around here. [gestures vaguely towards the others in the room] You'll know him when you see him.

Well... if he's you're twin, I guess I just technically have to look for you?

A me dressed differently, yeah. [He smirks.] I've gotta check up on the food - and break my fast - so I'll talk to you later?

[Ronnae nodded and smiled timidly,]

O-oh, okay, talk to you later then, enjoy your party!

You should enjoy it too. [bemusedly:] After all, you're our guest.

[But he's really off this time! As much as he enjoys her company, he's gotta break his fast on time.]
