(fourteenth miracle) BBS + action

In my country, Japan, we used to have a star festival called Tanabata, celebrating the meeting of two stars (Vega and Altair) which represented the two lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi meeting for the one time they could every year. People write down wishes on pieces of paper and hang them on bamboo trees. It's said that if you burn them by a river after the night of Tanabata (July 7th), the wishes would come true.

Last year some other people and I helped Japan-sama write down people's wishes on paper and hang them on small trees. I'd like to do that again this year. If anyone would like to join me, I'll be in the quad with some pens and paper for you to write your wishes on, or if you're busy, you can post your wishes here and we can write them down for you.

[As promised (or perhaps you saw her before the BBS post), Mikuru is in the quad with pens, paper, and string for tying the wishes up. As most of her resources at the moment are going into homecoming, she doesn't have little trees this year and has strung up her wish on one of the quad's trees nearby instead.

[Her wish on the tree, written in Japanese, is to Stay safe, Itsuki-kun.]

[Mikuru headtilts back. Hey, maybe this isn't a doll. That werepanther wasn't a monster.]

[Well, that makes it stop. And stare a little more in silence.

Except when it begins to speak, it starts to speak in a tremulous high-pitched voice.]

Um....

[Oh, the frog's probably just shy. Mikuru picks up a slip of paper and a pen and offers it.] Would... you like to make a wish?

[It takes a while for Yunoha to answer because she'd glanced around to see if she was the one being spoken to (or rather, that her doll was being spoken to.)]

...a wish?

[Still invisible though, Yunoha hugs her doll tighter. The effect: Her doll now seems to be leaning to the front, as if curious about the offer.]

[Someone who hasn't seen her notice on the BBS, Mikuru decides. She nods.] There's an old tradition in my country where you write down a wish and hang it on a tree in the hopes that it will come true.

[seethrul]

Oh. [And right about now, Mikuru will notice that an invisible hand are taking the pen and paper. The doll's hands remain quite languidly at its side.] I see.

Can I really wish for anything at all?

[bunnypassingby]

[Mikuru doesn't even really register it as an invisible hand; she kind of just assumes the doll can move things of its own accord. She nods.] Anything you like.

[Oh. Hmm. She mulls over the blank paper for a while, chewing on her bottom lip, before she scribbles something on it. Unfortunately, written language where she comes from isn't quite English and is probably unreadable to most others.

...speech translators don't work on written stuff, unfortunately.]

Um, is this okay then?

[Mikuru wrote her own wishes in Japanese. Like she cares what language people write in.]

That's perfect! Do you want me to hang it up for you?

[Yunoha colours, pleased, and offers the pen and paper back.]

[Mikuru puts the pen down, then goes to a lower branch of the tree she's chosen, where some wishes written in varying scripts already hang. Reaching up, she ties it on next to them.]

There. I hope it comes true!

It looks really nice. Is this for a special occasion?

Yes: My home country, Japan, used to have a star festival where people made wishes the one time in the year that two legendary lovers - symbolized by two stars in the sky - would meet. I got to learn more about it last year and I really enjoyed it, so I wanted to bring it back.

Oh...! That sounds really interesting. Is the festival today?

It starts today! I'm... not really sure about how long it lasts - I never really celebrated it before coming here.

I see...so anyone can make wishes as long as this is here?

[The bamboo.]

[She nods.] I'm planning to ask if I can plant the bamboo tree here permanently... But there's a belief that if you burn the wishes after the first night of Tanabata, they'll come true, so I might do that after a few days. [Mikuru glances up at them with a smile.] I like seeing them all there.

[seethrul]

Mmm...it's a little sad if they have to be burnt.

[All colourful and all that.]

...would you need help with that?

[bunnypassingby]

[Mikuru tilts her head.] I don't think I'd really need help, but I'd like the company. [There is a difference!

[Also, she hopes the frog wouldn't get melt near the fire.]

[...it's a bit disconcerting when Mikuru keeps looking at Tama instead, as she talks about having company. So very slowly, she materialises.]
