Have a thing you'd like! [Action, the lobby]
[Snow had been lying low for a while, quite unlike the congenial martial arts instructor. If you know enough, 'why' is an easy question to answer.]
[But he'd let himself do that for too long. So during lunch he'd hared off to Balamb Town, hit a couple of shops, and come back...]
[Now Snow's hanging out by the directory in the lobby, leaning against as he watches people go by. To those people, he lobs something nice he'd picked up -- honing oil and a sharpening stone if he knows you're specialized in bladed weapons, for example, or a magic stone if you're a paramagic specialist. He has a pretty good stash, and keeps better tabs on the students than you'd think, so chances are he's got something you might like.]

Here, catch. [Digging into his bag, he pulls out a book, then lobs it carefully over. It's a rather instructive treatise on the state of Galbadia leading up to and during the Sorceress War. Snow kinda thinks Cid might get something out of that.]

[His expression is not unkind, but he does not expand on that statement any further or offer any real sentiments of sympathy. Snow looks like he's trying to move past the disappearance of Serah, and what good would it be for him to drag the center of attention back to that very matter?
Besides, he has a book being tossed at him. He catches the thing easily and takes a quick look at the cover, lips quirking into a fleeting smile.]
Thank you. Is there a special gift-giving occasion that I am not aware of?
[Admittedly, Snow does seem the type to randomly give out gifts on a whim, but all the same, it can't hurt to ask in the rare case that something did slip manage to slip past him.]

Besides, most of the people here are far from home and the people they care about. I'm sure they could use a random act of kindness, even if they have gotten through enough to keep going on.

[He gestures briefly at bag Snow's carrying.]
How much did you bring back?
no subject
[Or five less.]

[A brief smile graces his features.]
Did you attempt to personalize everything, or--[He hefts the book up briefly.]--am I merely fortunate enough that you know me well-enough to choose something to my tastes?

Teaching here kind of reminds me of my days back in NORA.

[The words are not spoken unkindly though, and then after a moment--]
Did you ever consider joining the military?
no subject
I considered it, once. Not my style, though... Being military, you're doing what you're told, not what you necessarily want to be doing. Don't get me wrong, there's room for both sorts. We got along just fine with the GC back home, before everything went wrong.

[NORA strikes Cid as a paperwork nightmare just waiting to happen. He wonders if the lieutenant ever felt the same way.]

I don't think he could've done much more.

You mention not having any rules. May I ask how you kept everyone in order then? While it's possible that everyone got along harmoniously, I have some trouble seeing an entire organization coming across that way.

You're pretty much right, you know. Not much organization to it. They followed me because they thought the same way I did, and they kept doing it when I wasn't there to lead them.
no subject
Did you ever think to call upon them for help following the Purge?

[He punches his palm with a grin, as convinced now of his words as he ever was. Whatever may have happened, he remained a hero, and so did his friends, and his family.]

I will accept your word on the matter, expert that you are. [A pause.] The citizens of Eden must have been thankful for the additional assistance.
[--what with the Sanctum forces trying to take care of the monsters and the l'Cie at once.]

[Snow smiles softly at the memory.]
I think they helped us more than anyone. Or me, at least. They knew what I'd become, and they didn't care.

[Cid is, perhaps, a little envious of Snow, but what's done is done. Given another chance, he likely would've done the same thing and kept the matter a secret from his men.]
no subject
[Guess who he's thinking of, Cid.]
