HOLI BONFIRE (backdated to 4/14)

[The Garden Festival Committee and the Fight Club have graciously sponsored a giant bonfire in the Quad from 2000 to 2400 hours on Saturday night! It takes up most of the room in the center, with piles upon piles of freshly-cut logs and staff members replenishing the fire every so often with para-magic, but there's plenty to do and see in the Quad regardless.

Various members of the GFC have guitars on them, in order to properly sing campfire songs around the bonfire, and there's stations run by both Fight Club and the GFC near the back for s'mores, chocolate, and various other snacks that a bonfire party might need.

And even though your presence isn't mandatory, the smell of freshly roasted s'mores and the heat from the bonfire might be enough to entice just about anyone.]

[He snorts.] There's lots of things Shar finds hot, but I'm pretty sure my guitar-playing isn't one of them.

... I don't think you've met her, but Instructor Evans is kind of better at the whole singing and dancing thing.

[She's not really paying super attention to that conversation as he might know, especially considering she immediately launches into the real reason she's here.]

But you'd be surprised who I met today.

[Her tone already sounds a little accusing. Poor Tom.]

[He sighs. Might as well get the inevitable over with...]

Let me guess: the Artemis from my world?

Bingo.

[She looks at him, the skepticism plain to see on her face.]

How could you confuse me for that?

Because I hadn't met her as a teenager.

[He shrugs.] I'm sorry, I haven't been heroing as long as other guys, but you guys had the same name and parentage.

[That's not reassuring.]

Please tell me you don't think I'm going to grow up to look like that, still.

[Because that's way beyond insulting.]

She's married and has kids! [The idea of either act is mindboggling to Artemis right now.]

[He has to laugh. Not because he's trying to insult her; it's more like he thinks the thought of Artemis having Icicle III is hilarious.] Yeah, I know. Her kid's actually kinda cute.

... But seriously, no. I don't think so. [Tom did at one point. Teaching Artemis and befriending her, however, taught him otherwise.] You're not like her, even if you share the same blood and some of the same past.

I could never have a kid with him. No way, no how. [Not that she hates him or anything, the idea is just too weird.] I guess she'd have to be, at least kind of. Most kids are.

Well that's a relief. [Because if she ever thought getting a tattoo like that was a good idea she'd want someone to sucker punch her and drag her home.] I'm not even sure if we share the same blood, at least not entirely.

[He hit a touchy subject and he knows it, so Tom just politely nods and drops it.]

Really? That'd be a first. With most of the worlds, the parentage's usually the same...

Though I'll admit, I haven't asked the Damians how they differ yet. ["I'm kind of afraid to."]

He's just such a dweeb. [Not that Wally isn't a dweeb, but he's a cute dweeb. Who most importantly happens to not be on the villain path.]

Her mom sounds nothing like my mom, they might as well be opposites.

Can't say I blame you. The one's alright, but the other? Ugh, no.

[Huh. That's something he hadn't heard before. About Paula, at least; Icicle Jr.'s been a dweeb for as long as Tom's known him.]

Really? That's interesting.

[He sighs just thinking about them.] Yeah, try having them in the same Boxing class. I think I ended up sending Razem to the Infirmary at least every other week.

Yeah, my mom's great and he's okay with my extra-curricular activities too. Not like my dad.

[But he knows all about her dad, so she won't go into that.]

Doesn't sound too surprising when you consider who they are.

[He nods.] That's good, then. I don't know what mine would've thought about me heroing it up, but Dad approves at least.

Right. It's not surprising, but it was a pain in the neck. I think Razem's file is legitimately three times larger than anyone else's.

It was okay most of the time. Until she wanted me to do something I didn't want to do and then she'd talk about grounding me from them.

[Which would have been the most uncool. "Sorry batman, I can't go on this mission, I'm grounded." Seriously??]

He's a tough kid, he can handle it.

[It's been forever since someone thought about grounding him... Tom can't help smiling, even though he knows he should be more sympathetic.]

That's never fun. I'd say I could sympathize, but I wasn't exactly heroing it up back then... so when I did get grounded, it was for pretty legit reasons.

An outstanding guy like you getting grounded? [Is she smirking? Yup, she's smirking.] You don't say.

Yeeeep. [He's laughing at the memory.] I thought it'd be cool to start a band in high school.

Mom wasn't too pleased about us playing in 21+ venues.

No kidding. My mom would have freaked.

[Somehow "I went to the bar for a mission" probably wasn't an excuse that'd work either.]

Yeah, mine totally did... and even caused some band drama in the process.

I'm pretty sure I made some graphs about it later.

You know sometimes I think you're more of a nerd than everyone on my team combined.

Eh, probably. [He grins, idly strumming his guitar.] I never said I wasn't one.
