ITP, the Janitor is IGNORED

[Hey.

Hey Garden.

Guess what.

You're now trapped in the elevator.

Maybe you were too lazy to take the stairs; maybe you just needed to get somewhere and this was the quickest way from A to B, despite the janitor's warnings (and the signs on every floor).

Whatever the reason, it's too late! You're stuck in here. The lights are out, none of the buttons are working (or maybe they're jammed?), and it's unlikely you'd be able to pry open the doors — this elevator is one sturdy son of a gun, and between floors, there's nowhere to go.

Anyway... who's that with you?]

(OOC: Garden's undergoing maintenance and construction now that it's docked at Fisherman's Horizon, and now the elevator is out to get you.

Anyway, this will work like a meme!

1) Tag in with your character, one per comment. Others will respond.

Characters responding can roll the RNG to get a date and time! Already see something you can work with? Go for it!

If using the RNG, put your results in the comment title so that your threadmate knows what they're working with — alternatively, if there are options in the RNG that are completely unlikely for your character, make sure you specify what they are so that you get a scenario that you can handle.

Trapped outside of curfew? Beware the Disciplinary Committee.

2) Are you crowded against the wall? Is there only one person with you? What if you're forever alone? React accordingly! Make sure you work things out with each other if your thread is going to have more than two people in it.

Note that getting out through the ceiling hatches may not end well. No telling when the elevator will mysteriously fix itself, after all.

You make me sound so much more magical than I really am. [clang. fuck yes it's hitched. tying the other end of that yarn to the elevator cable so it's taught, then grabbing the other needles]

[ Normally he'd go first, survival of the fittest and all, but he doesn't trust this thing. Or the girl. And then of course, there's the sinking feeling that you know, he's going to get trapped there if she leaves him, which she possibly will. ]

I'm touched. Honestly I didn't think you'd honor that women and children first adage.

[she gives a sardonic little curtsy and puts the needles over the yarn, launching herself down the makeshift line. she has a foot out to brace her slamming into the door, but it's still a little harder than she'd have liked. welp. at least it hasn't broken yet and she can work on opening the door]

If only I'd known tonight would be one filled to the brim with adventure for me.

I could careless about common courtesies in a shaft like this. But I wouldn't trust you as far as I can throw you.

[ He peers over the side, watching her at work. Maybe she has something after all. ]

If only you'd said as far as you could rappel me. Then we'd be getting somewhere.

[apparently having magical yarn in her sylladex wasn't such a stupid idea after all. the door opens with a small metallic groan.]

[ No response. Nothing. Nada. Someone's peeved that a metal door will open with through the use of some goddamn string and you know, not someone totally capable of metal manipulation. ]

[Rose, on the other hand, is sitting in the doorway, dangling her legs into the shaft and looking up with a serenely smug expression on her face]

Would this be the moment you confess that you're afraid of heights to me?

Hardly.

[ Erik grabs on to the rope and rappels himself down, ignoring that smug expression. He's just going to bide his time and add her to the list of growing people. ]

On the other hand, someone using a piece of stupid yarn to get places leaves something to be considered.

Stupid yarn? That's a little immature for a grown man, don't you think? It did what it had to, low scores for panache and drama aside.

Hardly immature if you can't rely on yourself, but rather some magic to get somewhere.

[ But he's not denying it worked. Because that would be embarrassing for him. ]

It's not magic, it's a vestigial of the universe I was previously occupying. I was plucked from my busy schedule before I could introduce proper magic into the mix.

[yeah, that's what she thought. standing up and brushing herself off now] As with most good tricks, the props behind it are simply ordinary items.

[ Uh huh. And all of this is just lost upon Erik. ]

Actually I prefer a good Lovecraft or Poe to keep my sleep easy and free of agitation. The topics I'm covering now are more of a daytime subject. [she rolls her eyes]

The bottom line for you is that it was just a ball of yarn and knitting needles. No magic, just undue creativity with craft supplies.

I'm sorry, do I fit the profile of northeastern privileged girl too much? I'd rush to assure you that your assumptions are completely off base but I haven't a leg to stand on considering the rigorous training for debutantehood that is still ingrained into my psyche despite the eventual discarding of the goal altogether.

Next time I'll be sure to think up the idea and pretend you did instead, is that better?

You fit more along the profile of someone who just tries too hard to get anywhere successful, just like that role you so willingly want to discard.

And yet you're the one bothered by the fact that your little routine with the vacuum didn't do anything except leave me short a ridiculous lawn ornament. I work vigorously to boost my maturity levels for a plethora of reasons, but thankfully fear of incompetency has never been one of them.

I can assure you there's a deeper reason than just a mere door refusing to open at my hands. For all your attempts at maturity, you're not very observant.

There's a difference between being observant and deciding that divulging everything one observes is an excellent idea that will further your goals. I'm afraid that I'm no Sherlock Holmes, and find the idea of playing discernment to impress rather distasteful.

You're quite welcome, and if I thought that you'd be able to stand another round of grandstanding bullshit without melting I'd offer another go sometime in the vague future. But I imagine that you're going to be haunted with enough nightmares of yarn and needles for that not to be necessary.

I've tolerated enough bullshit at the hands of humans, you trying to show off means nothing. As far as your attempts to induce some trauma, I dare say you'll need to try harder with something other than yarn and needles.

I'm afraid that the point in time I've been taken from makes that next to impossible without some serious effort that I'm not certain you're worthy of. If I ever end up flung home and returned here though, I'll be sure to make good on the challenge.
