Okay. Okay. You can handle this, Masters. This isn't so hard to grasp.

[Yes it is.

He stares at his acceptance letter yet again, even though he's probably memorized half of it by now. He's still not sure what aspect of all of this should freak him out the most, which is his biggest problem right now.]

So I'm on a different world with no way home where apparently magic exists. And somehow, I now go to a military school here. And there are other people from other worlds with 'unnatural powers.' Alright. I think I get it.

[OH GOD, WHAT EVEN IS THIS---

Danny flops down onto a bench, hunched over the letter, which is now on his knees. He hasn't even noticed the course catalog yet.]

So...what? I just...don't go home? I stay here in this weird, different world and become a Plant or whatever? and I never get to see Dad again?

[By now he's forgotten that, yes, this is, in fact, a public place and absolutely anyone can see him moping. Feel free to remind him.]

[Well, at least Danny is looking more cheerful; mission accomplished even if she's now slightly bummed out. She gives Danny a nod.]

[WOULD YOU REALLY??? Oh man, now Danny is excited.]

That would be--that'd actually be really nice! I'm Danny Masters.

[His excitement is contagious! Mikuru beams.]

I've been here for one quarter now, so if you have any more questions, I should be able to help.

Actually, uh, yeah, I do have some questions... Or, more like one really big question, since I don't actually know anything about this school I'm apparently going to. [Have a sheepish grin, Mikuru!]

[She nods.] Go ahead.

...what am I supposed to do now?

[No, seriously. He has NO IDEA. Maybe if he keeps grinning the question will seem less stupid.]

Whatever you want to do. [Her tone is matter of fact but gentle.] You could start picking out your classes for the next semester, or I could show you around so you can start learning where everything is, or we could get some food...

Maybe-- [He was going to ask for a tour of some sort, but then his stomach grumbles. Loudly. Noticeably. Blushing slightly, he covers his stomach gently.]

Okay, uh, food actually sounds like a pretty good idea right about now.

[Mikuru giggles, and stands up, waiting for Danny to follow before she starts leading the way to the cafeteria.]

We've got kitchenettes in our dorm rooms and sometimes we can use the home ec kitchens, but it's easiest - and free - to eat in the cafeteria. There's set meal times each day; don't worry, you'll pick up the schedule quickly. And every newsletter there's a schedule of what's served at each meal on Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday and Thursday, Friday, and the weekend.

Oh, right. Okay, got it. So, um, what's on the schedule for today, then?

[Mikuru gazes out the nearest window as she first places what day it is before trying to remember the food schedule.]

I'm pretty sure it's sub sandwiches! You can put all kinds of things in them.

Sub sandwiches? Huh, I don't think I've ever had those before!

Neither had I! Well, a lot of the foods they serve here, really... It's fun getting to try new foods.
