i was hiding for a WEEK. you guys suck at finding people.

[Nate is much easier to find now, though: He's in the library, catching up on the CUL 101 classes he missed by copying photos of Shumi from a textbook and annotating these drawings with cultural information. You can bug him! Or perhaps he will bug you when he tears out a page from his notebook, crumples it up, and throws it out - without really looking up to properly target the bin.

[Yeah, he might have hit someone.]

[Moments later, the nearest bin rockets into the desk dangerously close to Nate, bounces off the edge and shudders to a halt. Someone must have kicked it - it's just as well it wasn't particularly full, but who could have thought that was a good idea?]

Was that so hard?

[Not the irritable young man passing by with a couple of heavy textbooks in his arms, surely?]

Gratias ago. [Oh, look, let's use that language they were classmates for. He puts some more rubbish in the bin, now that it's closer.] Maybe this is a sign I should use projectile weapons.

[Ed is not amused.] Yeah, with aim like that, I'd be terrified. Stick to what you're good at.

[He peers over his own books at Nate's just on principle, but makes a noncommittal noise and soon straightens up; it doesn't look too interesting.]

Yeah, well, unfortunately "climbing things" isn't an acceptable fighting method in Garden's books. Not offensive enough.

How's SeeD treating you? [Hey, he noticed the new NPC RA.]

[He looks at Nate, slightly surprised. Small talk, really?]

Could be worse. Could be better, too. There's not a lot of things I miss from my last job, but the pay back then wasn't bad. [He shrugs as casually as if he hadn't kicked a bin at Nate a second ago.] Not that I was out on business or anything.

[Trufax: He's trying to find out if SeeDship is worth all the classes, and, given Ed's bin kicking, library shouting attitude, Nate trusts him to tell it like it is. This answer is fairly satisfying, so he nods to the first part. The random denial, though:] Hey, it's not like I was wondering where you were. [b-baka]

Then why ask? [His dismissive shrug makes it fairly clear that he isn't too interested in the answer, though.

Feeling that he should at least pretend he's in any position of authority for the purposes of this conversation, he adds:] But don't take it from me. If you really want to find out for yourself, maybe you could start by paying more attention to what you're copying.

[An ironic though half-assed salute.] It's for one of my easiest subjects this trimester, but thanks.

That's not what I'm saying. [Stepping forward, and taking no care whatsoever to remain out of Nate's way, he leans over and jabs a finger at an annotation a bit higher up the page.] Like here. You've copied down all of that, but most of it's just fluff.

[Nate looks at not the annotation, but at the picture next to it, then leans back and looks up at Ed, starting to recite information which develops significantly on one of his 'fluff' points on the page, completely deadpan. At some points he ties this back to Shumi history, which certainly isn't from the textbook in front of him.]

[Can paper really go too far though? Fionna notices it can't as it falls at her feet, and she picks it up, tossing it at Nate's head halfheartedly].

[A glance back at her.] Oh, damn, I missed. [Not that he sounds particularly contrite about it. At least this time he actually gets up to pick it up from where it fell, lazily throwing it at the bin again.

[It bounces off the side. With a look of mild annoyance, he picks it up and slams it in properly.] I don't need notes for a field trip I've already been on that badly.

Field trip?

[She looks over at what he's doing, interested]. Oh, you probably take that class on opposite days, huh?

[The textbooks in front of his notebook are actually on Shumi culture; he's just tidying his notebook out now, which involves getting rid of redundant pages.] SUV 101? Yeah.

It's been interesting - I'm way more used to getting by in cities.

Oh! Uh, nah, I meant the Culture class, 101. Musta got them confused...

Oh! Yeah, I'm in cultural studies - I was away for the survival skills field trip.

We ran into a Blitz. [He picks up his notebook and flips through to a sketch, then, pulling a pencil from behind his ear, he adds a small stick figure next to it to represent himself.] Good thing I had someone in my group who's in advanced weapons already.

Whoa, no way?! That looks awesome! Who took him down?

[Nate puffs up a bit at that praise.] This girl Hine with a staff thing, and she had Thunder junctioned to her defense, too, so when it cast Thunder on her she didn't feel it. [Alas, class with NPCs. He coughs, a bit embarrassed:] I, uh, just got fried.

Heh, don't looks so out of it! Magic can be kinda tricky, I'm sill learning the ropes myself! You didn't get too hurt though, right?

[He perks up a bit at that.] Nah, not too badly. I can take care of myself. [Brag, brag.]

No way? Awesome! So, what can you do so far?

[Nate looks around, then decides not to risk it.] I probably shouldn't show you in here; I've already been kicked out of the library once this year.

[Fionna grinned] Sure, sure, why don't you show me outside? I haven't seen any cool magic since my roomie left!

Yeah, sure! Gimme a sec - [To gather his things. He didn't have much with him - just a couple of notebooks, a pencil, and an eraser - so it's quick, though he does take a moment to put the textbook back on the shelf in the right place.]

Okay, let's go! [And he starts leading the way out of the library.]

[Oh, man, that smells good. Even after six months of regular meals, Nate is easily appeased by food.] Hi, I'm here for the hide and seek prize? [Beat.] Uh, Nathan Drake, cadet number 20715.

Oh! Hey, Nathan! Come on in! [Pinkie turns to walk back inside, stirring her batter. She'll expect him to close the door. Or not.] Your prize is over on the tables to the left!

[Upon the cooking tables, are dozens of pies. At least...twenty five!]

Nate. [It's reflexive as he shuts the door behind him - someone cool enough to run a huge game of hide and seek and then give prizes for it instead of detention for skipping class can totally use his nickname - before following her to the tables.]

Holy crap! [There has never been such a pleased, amazed "holy crap". He walks alongside the tables, marveling.] All of them?

Nate it is, then!

[Well, she assumed they would still go to class. Or something! Details. Dodging and hiding from people eaters is more important anyway!]

Yeah, all of them! [She pours her batter into a round pan, making sure to get as much out as possible.]

Oh my god. [Nate cannot even begin to fathom what to do with so much delicious smelling food.] Thank you so much, um... [Oops, he forgot to get a name.]

Just as she opens the heated oven, she notices how Nate trailed off in his sentence. The pan is placed inside and the door shut.]
