He waves energetically; the video option has always suited him much better than writing things out, once he figured out how to work it. He doesn't have to worry about spelling things this way!

He rubs at the back of his neck as he addresses the camera, looking slightly lost despite the familiar surroundings.]

Looks like there's a lot of new cadets here since I went on my last mission! Makes you wonder where they're all comin' from! Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself, since I'm seein' a lot of new faces in the halls! The name's Gourry Gabriev, SeeD! Er, that's a title, not part of my name. I'm a sword specialist here! To any new cadets, good luck with your training, and watch out for Instructor Inverse! She's got a short temper and she's not shy about throwin' those fireballs around!

[The feed cuts out, the video being wrapped up rather unceremoniously.]

[Later that same day, Gourry can be found in uniform, seated in his own corner of the cafeteria with a table all to himself. There are about five full plates of food spread across it, which he is steadily working his way through without breaking a sweat. He's friendly enough, for anyone who wants to approach him, but keep an eye on your hands. You're likely to lose a finger if you set them down in the wrong place.]

She is not. She is as human as you -- though with pink hair, which I do not think is common for most humans.

I've seen plenty of people with pink hair before! It comes in all kinds of colors where I'm from!

Intriguing! It is not common on this world, but demons had a great deal of variety in their colors as well.

Huh. Funny how things like that change. I'm used to people around Garden lookin' different, but I guess I didn't notice it while I was out on missions. Nobody with pink or blue hair out there! Well, unless it's fake, I guess.

There are millions of universes out there, each with countless worlds on them. Some little variety is to be expected!

Hyahya, do not think that I am complaining! Garden is a well-stocked spice rack that adds flavor to the ingredients of each day.

How long have you worked here, anyway? I don't remember you from when I was in training!

[Which means NOTHING. Gourry doesn't remember the Dark Lord he helped Lina slay, let alone the names of instructors.]

A year and a half! Before that, I was abroad, seeking knowledge of the full range of ingredients this world has to offer.

Yeah? What kind of rare ingredients did you find out there?

All things are ingredients, therefore it is merely to ask what I saw! There are countless monsters and amazing wonders out there to be seen. It is a pity they are difficult to acquire here; I highly recommend agave cactuar nectar, for example!

To put it simply, cactuars can be made into delicious ingredients. But they are very difficult to catch and defeat!

Where would you even find 'em? I've been here awhile, and I've never seen one! Except on a Triple Triad card, if you're talkin' about those little green guys.

Islands in the Centra region, primarily. They do not appear on any of the civilized continents!

Guess they just don't like people that much, huh? Aren't many down that way.

Hyahya, well, cactuars are fearsome enough when provoked that it may be instead that civilization cannot grow with them nearby...

Really? I don't know... I've seen some pretty impressive monsters in my day, and people are always buildin' their towns near dragon lairs, seems like...

If you recall from your studies of this world's history -- [Which he is sure Gourry doesn't] -- the Lunar Cry devastated Centra a long time ago. Cactuars are surely a result of this!

I still don't get how some crying moon makes monsters appear, but I guess it was a good story.

A 'Lunar Cry' means that the moon has grown so full of monsters, the gravity of this planet pulls them over. The 'cry' in question is more of a yell than teardrops, except than instead of vowels, the moon is yelling with monsters!

[That is the most sensible explanation of the Lunar Cry that Gourry has ever heard.

Huh, I don't remember them tellin' the story that way in classes!

[Even if they had told it that way, he wouldn't remember, of course.]

I like that! Makes sense. Yelling with monsters!

[Champloo exists in two states: being understood by no one, or explaining. This is only slightly different because his failure to be understood is not his own fault!]

All the monsters on this world are either from the moon, or are normal creatures who have been affected by being close to the ones from the moon.
