Suddenly a pack full of stuff drops heavily onto the table, and Rainbow Drops down next to him, looking excited.]

All right! Now that you've gotten your nomination, we have to decide the best way to campaign. I'm thinking posters are classic and a good start. We need to focus on your positive traits, such as they are... I guess you're smart and you can fight pretty well, which are important things here, so those'll be your good selling points. By the way I'm gonna have to help Twilight with her campaign and maybe Princess Luna too, you don't mind, right? Anyway, here's what I've got to start with.

[She unfastens the clasp on the pack with her teeth, then yanks out a large piece of posterboard that has ED ELRIC FOR HOMECOMING PRINCE on it, which she slaps down on the table.]

I'm thinking your official symbol could be one of those circles you draw. That's unique and it'll make people think of you! Once they start identifying it with you we can start slipping it into posts on the network or just cards we put in different places. Hey, you're supporting Twilight, right? We could do the same thing for her, using her cutie mark.

[She pauses for the first time, clearly expecting him to cheerfully nod agreement.]

[Nope. Continuing to blankly stare at her, as he had been pretty much from the moment she dropped in? That's more like it.

After a few more awkward seconds, he does find something to say.] Dash... [And even ignoring the gritted teeth, it's pretty remarkable how much frustration a person can fit into one drawn-out syllable.

Other words are escaping him. To fill the silence, he picks the poster up to get a better look. It's not a bad effort, to be honest.]

Look, Ed, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're not a shoo-in. If those other guys put in a good effort you might get swept by surprise! It's best to take this seriously no matter how confident you are!

[Who the hell decided it was a good idea to nominate him? Damian doesn't mind campaigning for someone else - he was someone else's campaign manager last year - but why would he ever campaign for himself? He's supposed to be the tough kid! The one no one's supposed to like!

It has a fair chance of working, but the tactic can backfire. If you show that it's getting to you, the voters might want to see how much anger they can elicit if they crown you.
