[Sharpay is on a mission. Not an official SeeD mission, but one much nearer and dearer to her heart.

[Drama.

[A hot pink tote bag full of plays and her laptop on her arm, she marches to Princess Luna's office and knocks on the door. THEY HAVE A PRODUCTION TO PLAN.

[When this little meeting is done, she retreats to her room and busts out her wallet and a spreadsheet, shuffling receipts for a while before posting on the BBS.]

Two questions, Garden: What do you spend your allowance/salary on?

And if you wanted to save up for something big, what would you cut back on?

[Unsigned? Oh, yes. She's trying to be anonymous, or as anonymous as you can be with your ID number still showing (rendering a change in typing style a bit useless). At least not too many people would really know her number off by heart.]

When I saved up for my guitar, I stopped buying stuff from Starbucks (a coffee place if that wasn't on your world). I'd cut back on little things like take-out and would start eating in. You know, little things.

I focused my expenditures on pursing my interests, particularly collecting materials for a small lab. Since Garden sheltered me and provided the essentials, I stopped spending money on entertainment and relocated my search for entertainment to the library.

No problem. I really hope the library starts to get more attention and an expanded selection, but there should also be libraries in the towns we visit.

It's small, but comfortable. The selection is tilted toward fiction, but there's plenty to cater to the needs of visiting Garden students.

Would it not be easiest to simply avoid purchasing items and services you want but do not need necessarily if you intend to make a larger purchase?

[Why not? Lots of people with different views on spending; some kids take economics class and I'm pretty sure there's a home ec module on budgeting... Oh, those classes Sharpay never took.]

Perhaps you should look into investing then, if it's that far in the future. You may find the growth of your funds to be larger that way.

The returns are larger with a greater investment, but aside from taking longer to grow, there's no reason why you can't start small.

[Sharpay flounces in, shutting the door behind her, and sits on the floor by Luna, dumping her back beside her. She'd be more weirded out, but she's met Rarity and Rainbow Dash, and her boyfriend's not entirely human either, so.

[Even though they haven't worked together before, Sharpay's been aware of Luna enough to need no introduction, and seeing as they work in the same department, she sort of expects the same of Luna, so she just gets straight into it:] I'm not entirely convinced the handful of students I have can sustain a play with a small cast, so I propose our classes work together on the end of quarter show and we do an ensemble piece!

When I was seventeen, I was trying to get the lead in the school production and trying to get a guy to pay attention to me. You were awesome at seventeen.
