Not the Best Young Flyer for Nothing [bbs&action]

[ACTION!]

[The skies over Dollet are blue, save for several clusters of clouds that Rainbow had quite deliberately left behind when she'd snuck out earlier this morning to clear them out and set the weather. Beyond that, it's a gorgeous day.]

[She'd also set up a sign that told people where to stand to watch the demonstration. All these buildings made it a tricky prospect, but she'd counted for them when she worked this up.]

[As the sun reaches its zenith and the hour of noon comes upon them, there's no sign of the demonstration though. From behind a building, Rainbow's been watching the crowd gather with excited glee. She gives it a minute to build suspense, then takes off--]

[The first the audience sees of her is a rainbow streak slashing through the skies above them like a comet, air roaring as it races over her body and through the feathers of her wings. Rainbow drops into a plunge, diving down to the street below and ahead of the audience area at a speed that surely is going to flatten her on the pavement -- but it doesn't. She pulls out of the dive at the last second and into the Super-Speed Strut, racing along the ground with a casual smile as if she's just out for a stroll in the park. Only her beating wings and the thunder of air betray the effort she's putting out as she rockets straight through the crowd, then blasts back into the air with such force that the road actually cracks beneath her from where she lifts off.]

[Into the sky again, and this time headed for the largest of the clouds, which she races around with rainbow contrail behind, quick hoofwork and air pressure sculpting and shaping it until it resembles a fearsome dragon, jaws dropped and wings spread, ready to pounce. Rainbow ducks behind it and whacks it with her forehooves, sending it shooting at the other cluster of clouds she'd left behind. Then she races past it, whirling around the second cloud until it resembles a pony, legs thrust back in the middle of a powerful kick -- and a second later, the dragon-cloud slams face-first into those raised rear hooves and dissipates.]

[She draws herself up proudly, savoring the moment, then descends again, weaving and turning just to show off her casual moves. Give the audience a breather, let them build up some anticipation, because compared to what's coming, most of them can only imagine...]

[Again, Rainbow pulls out of her dive, this time swooping over the cloud, forelegs extended and wings laboring as she races off down the street, accelerating with all her might as she reaches the edge of town. Just over the ocean, she pulls up sharply, then pours on the speed as she rockets towards the sky--]

[With an immense rumbling boom, brilliant, shining waves of rainbow light burst out from her, rolling over Dollet in a glorious display of color. In its wake, the pony flies a great arc over the town in no time at all. It might be high noon, and a near-cloudless sky on a beautiful day, but Dollet now has a shining, glittering rainbow arching through the skies above it.]

Really? What about them are amazing?

Okay, first of all, they're fast. Not as fast as me, of course, but they race through the sky leaving smoke trails behind them like few pegasi ever could! But it's not the fast that really makes them amazing, it's the stunts they can pull. Put them together and they can do amazing thing! Like there's one where all five of them swoop up and spiral together --

[She bolts into the air, turning in on herself like a somersault, then soaring away like she's been kicked, hooves outstretched.]

Boom!

They sound like they do the same thing that some airplaces do in my world!

[ Though really, the fact that an animal does it sounds kind of cooler than machinery that were built to do those kinds of things. ]

Some what now?

[Equestria doesn't have airplanes. Equestria has balloons! And giant, awesome zeppelins!]

There machines that fly in the air with humans as pilots. There are some that are built to do amazing tricks like what you do in the sky.

So like the airship here? I didn't know they were the same thing!

Heh, guess I have a lot of work to do before I graduate as a pilot, huh?

[wittybanter]

Sort of. The airship here is just one type of airplane.

[ He grins ] Hey! You're better than me at flying! I can't fly nearly a fast as you.

Of course you can't. No one can fly as fast as me. [And so modest, too, Rainbow.]

[wittybanter]

And if someone does?

[elementofloyalty]

It'll never happen. There's only two things that matter to THIS pegasus -- one is going fast, and the other is winning!

[wittybanter]

Winning, huh? Are you saying that you win at every competition you enter?

[elementofloyalty]

Winning's what Rainbow Dash does!

[She puffs herself up proudly, but then grins and scoots over to sling a companionable foreleg over his shoulders.]

But if you're thinking of challenging me to some crazy contest like 'standing vertical' or 'holding things in hands', don't get any ideas. This pegasus wasn't born yesterday, y'know.

[wittybanter]

[ Danny grins back at Rainbow Dash. ]

Trust me. What kind of contest would it be if I had to give myself an advantage over a pegasus?

More like you're thinking, "Oh, this pony is too proud. I'll show HER she can't win at everything." I don't need a lesson like that!

[wittybanter]

I wasn't thinking that! Well... I wasn't thinking that as a lesson.

Just so you know, I'm not getting into a big argument over what's fair and what's not. I'm a pegasus pony. I have wings.

[Somepony is thinking of certain incidents with certain earth ponies in the past.]

[wittybanter]

[ Danny puts her hands up in defense ]

Woah, hey. I'm not going to get into an argument like that. 'Sides, what can you do that would be unfair to me? I can fly too.

[She looks pointedly up at the sky she'd just split with a rainbow.]

You really think you've got what it takes to take ME on in a flying contest?

[wittybanter]

Maybe if it was through a maze.

[ because if there are no ground rules he can just phase through the walls y u p ]

Nope. I could still take you on.

[wittybanter]

[ Danny raises an eyebrow ]

Really? Through a maze?

[elementofloyalty]

What's with the skepticism?! You think I can't fly through a maze in no time flat?!

[wittybanter]

Oh, I'm sure you can! Just with the walls and everything it would take you longer than if you just flew straight.

[elementofloyalty]

Not that much longer. Speed isn't everything, you know! A flyer of MY caliber has to be AGILE!

Agile huh? So you can fly around any obstacle that's thrown at you?
