i • ( action )

[ It's almost too much for her to take. Gwen has been home for such a short time, hasn't even fully settled, and now she isn't quite sure where she is. Morgana had, understandably, given her a bit of time off despite her wanting to find a distraction. Being a captive and having to parade around as the ward of Uther Pendragon was difficult enough without all that followed... So she thought when she woke up the next morning she'd be safe and sound in Camelot and back to her usual day-to-day.

She was almost in a panic before the instructor found her and tried to help. A trip to the Headmaster's office and an acceptance letter later she still didn't quite understand what was going on. She just nodded politely, took her materials and was sent out of her own in the big Garden.

The whole place–Balamb they told her it's called–is a bit off-putting for Guinevere. It's smooth and shiny for lack of a better description, and so unlike Camelot and every other stone and wood-built village she's been in. Her nearly fruitless hunt around the center of the Garden just brought her back to the Lobby steps where her search began. Must have passed it, she thought a bit downtrodden, though she can't blame herself for being distracted given the circumstances. It's time she asked for help.

She works up the nerve to walk up to any passer-by who will listen with a simple question: ]

Umm, sorry to be a bother but could you point me to the [ She pauses a moment to make sure she's remembering it right- ] Dormitory?

( ooc note • feel free to bump into her wherever & whenever in the lobby area. she looks very lost and needs all the help she can get! )

You and Lancelot? What do you...oh. [Oh Arthur is not going to like this...]

No, I haven't. And it turns out that the...magic that brought us here also brought us from different points in time. [Merlin pauses] If you're from when we rescued you...then I'm from your future, and Arthur's even further ahead.
nevergetscredit: (Neutral: Where are they going?)

works for me!

Believe me, I'm serious. And Arthur? Apparently he's the King in his time. Which definitely made meeting him here rather awkward, I have to say.
nevergetscredit: (Neutral: Sorry wasn't listening)

Oh no. You've already met Arthur? [Merlin looks a bit dismayed at this. He'd half been thinking that maybe if he could just explain to Arthur before he met Gwen...but he was already too late]

We're stuck here. Apparently sometimes people just end up back in their own world again, but it's not something you can control or choose. [Merlin looks down at the catalog, and grins in a way that's meant to try and cheer Gwen up] They seem to just want us to learn things. It could definitely be worse!

No, it's not your fault Gwen. Arthur was just...expecting something different.

[And there's the talk of magic again...Merlin doesn't really know how she will react to all of the magic, but he hopes that she'll take it better than Arthur] I think it's a bit like training to be a knight, or a guard. [he pauses] No, I haven't taken any of the magic classes. Arthur wants to try and talk to the headmaster about it.
nevergetscredit: (Unsure: I'm not going to like this am I?)

You shouldn't apologise for anything, Gwen.

[Merlin pauses, if Gwen thinks their magic might be different...but then, does that mean that she still thinks that the magic of their world can only be evil?]

The people here - they don't like any magic that someone has naturally, but for some reason they don't mind this 'para-magic'. But I don't really know how they're different. [Well, he did a bit. Mostly because he'd been trying to read about it in the library. But he didn't want to admit to that]
nevergetscredit: (Unsure: I don't think this will work)

at least she's not like Arthur and constantly asking Merlin to reaffirm that Magic Is Evil?

[personal profile] nevergetscredit 2012-01-19 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Merlin bit his lip, not really knowing how to talk about any of this. Not to Gwen, who's own father had gotten caught in the middle of the battle between Uther and those with magic]

Yes. Gaius...[Merlin paused for a moment, before starting to explain in a rush of tumbled words. Just maybe Gwen could understand, even a little...] Gaius told me that some people just...have magic. Most sorcerers I think need to learn spells, but others will just start using magic unconsciously, or by accident. [Like Morgana]

You could always just not use anything you learn here after we get home? [Merlin gives a pained smile]
nevergetscredit: (Neutral: Hello?)

/kicks work for you

[Merlin stops, and just stares at Gwen with a mix of hope and amazement]

You really think that magic could be used for good? That people with magic aren't all evil?
nevergetscredit: (Happy: You have no idea)

[personal profile] nevergetscredit 2012-01-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[No, nothing wrong, far far from anything like that - but Merlin had spent so long not knowing what Gwen felt about magic, and worrying that even if she accepted his magic then she might one day face the pyre for knowing and not telling Uther. But to know that Gwen is open to thinking that magic can be good...]

Y...yes! You might be right. After all, since magic is banned, we don't really have any opportunities to see if magic can be used for good, do we?
nevergetscredit: (Neutral: Sitting with Gwen)

[personal profile] nevergetscredit 2012-01-22 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
A long time ago, I think he did.

[Merlin meanwhile, it trying to not start grinning madly and let on that this means a whole lot more to him than than it would to any other servant in Camelot]

Arthur...he thinks all magic is evil. He won't understand. But we can still find out more, and see what it really is like.

[he pauses]

And I know someone here who has magic. But she can only heal, she can't use it to hurt anybody. I think you should meet her. [grin] You two would probably get on well, actually.
nevergetscredit: (Dubious: This will not turn out well)

[personal profile] nevergetscredit 2012-01-22 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
He's not like Uther. Arthur...Arthur can listen to reason. Uther's just made up his mind, and he refuses to ever consider anything that suggests he might be wrong.

[Oh no Gwen, don't be like Arthur...]

I don't think it's really something she can actually teach anybody. I think hers is the kind you definitely have to be born with.
nevergetscredit: (Neutral: Where are they going?)

[personal profile] nevergetscredit 2012-01-23 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well...you might see it a little earlier than that. Some of the people here are pretty free with magic. Or they clearly are magic. [Rita and her wings being one example of that]
