[ It's almost too much for her to take. Gwen has been home for such a short time, hasn't even fully settled, and now she isn't quite sure where she is. Morgana had, understandably, given her a bit of time off despite her wanting to find a distraction. Being a captive and having to parade around as the ward of Uther Pendragon was difficult enough without all that followed... So she thought when she woke up the next morning she'd be safe and sound in Camelot and back to her usual day-to-day.
She was almost in a panic before the instructor found her and tried to help. A trip to the Headmaster's office and an acceptance letter later she still didn't quite understand what was going on. She just nodded politely, took her materials and was sent out of her own in the big Garden.
The whole place–Balamb they told her it's called–is a bit off-putting for Guinevere. It's smooth and shiny for lack of a better description, and so unlike Camelot and every other stone and wood-built village she's been in. Her nearly fruitless hunt around the center of the Garden just brought her back to the Lobby steps where her search began. Must have passed it, she thought a bit downtrodden, though she can't blame herself for being distracted given the circumstances. It's time she asked for help.
She works up the nerve to walk up to any passer-by who will listen with a simple question: ]
Umm, sorry to be a bother but could you point me to the [ She pauses a moment to make sure she's remembering it right- ] Dormitory?
( ooc note • feel free to bump into her wherever & whenever in the lobby area. she looks very lost and needs all the help she can get! )

I don't understand... They tried to explain it to me upon my arrival. [ She mulls over that for a moment. ] So you haven't just been with Arthur to get me and Lancelot?
no subject
No, I haven't. And it turns out that the...magic that brought us here also brought us from different points in time. [Merlin pauses] If you're from when we rescued you...then I'm from your future, and Arthur's even further ahead.
writing this like Gwen already ran into Arthur i suppose.
[ She's not sure what Merlin's on about. And then he's talking about the future and being brought here with magic. She
doesn't want to believeis not buying it. ]You can't possibly be serious, Merlin.
Although, Arthur...
[ It's starting to dawn on her. ]
works for me!

[ She looks down at the course catalog and various other Garden information in her arms. ]
I'm not really sure what this all means... are we stuck here, doing whatever this is they've asked us to do?
[ She holds up her acceptance letter and lets out a somewhat impatient sigh. ] With King Arthur.

We're stuck here. Apparently sometimes people just end up back in their own world again, but it's not something you can control or choose. [Merlin looks down at the catalog, and grins in a way that's meant to try and cheer Gwen up] They seem to just want us to learn things. It could definitely be worse!

Of course, that smile of Merlin's melts away her worry for the time being. She shifts the items in her arms to get a better look at the catalog, skimming through the pages. Most of it made very little sense to her, though the words Magic and Combat seemed to appear on nearly every page she saw. ]
Learning about magic and fighting, apparently. What use could we possibly be in that? [ Her eyes are fixed on para-magic on the page. ] have you... learned magic? With Arthur being here, I mean?

[And there's the talk of magic again...Merlin doesn't really know how she will react to all of the magic, but he hopes that she'll take it better than Arthur] I think it's a bit like training to be a knight, or a guard. [he pauses] No, I haven't taken any of the magic classes. Arthur wants to try and talk to the headmaster about it.

[ Magic's a difficult politically charged topic for Gwen. She has nothing against people who practice it to some extent, but a sorcerer was the reason her father was imprisoned and killed. At the bottom of that issue was Uther and his blind hatred and not the magic itself. ]
I suppose if it's required of us we may not have a choice. Besides, their books and clothes are different from Camelot, why can't their magic be as well?
[ Gwen: always attempting to be positive even if her face is giving her worry away. ]

[Merlin pauses, if Gwen thinks their magic might be different...but then, does that mean that she still thinks that the magic of their world can only be evil?]
The people here - they don't like any magic that someone has naturally, but for some reason they don't mind this 'para-magic'. But I don't really know how they're different. [Well, he did a bit. Mostly because he'd been trying to read about it in the library. But he didn't want to admit to that]
way to be unintentionally insensitive, gwen.
There are people who just have magic naturally? Like, they're born with it? [ She's never asked that question considering the circumstances. She assumed it was a studied thing, like how she learning smithing from her father. Or, like for the Druids, a religious and ritualistic thing. ]
I just hope we don't still have it when we do get to go home...
at least she's not like Arthur and constantly asking Merlin to reaffirm that Magic Is Evil?
Yes. Gaius...[Merlin paused for a moment, before starting to explain in a rush of tumbled words. Just maybe Gwen could understand, even a little...] Gaius told me that some people just...have magic. Most sorcerers I think need to learn spells, but others will just start using magic unconsciously, or by accident. [Like Morgana]
You could always just not use anything you learn here after we get home? [Merlin gives a pained smile]
forever delayed. work sucked this week :/
The locals may fear it, but she believes there must be good even in people with powers they do not understand. ]
Perhaps, like with all magic, people are just becoming afraid of what they do not understand. It's not even a choice...I pray none of them have to live with that in Camelot.
I suppose that's a choice. Some of this magic looks dstructive but... there are cures and healing in it as well, it seems. It would not hurt to make use of those skills.
/kicks work for you
You really think that magic could be used for good? That people with magic aren't all evil?
/helps you
Perhaps? I—I mean, we, in Camelot—have only seen magic used for ill. Maybe that's all we want to see? Or Uther sees? Our opinion of magic is Uther's, and I am prepared to form my own.
no subject
Y...yes! You might be right. After all, since magic is banned, we don't really have any opportunities to see if magic can be used for good, do we?
no subject
[ She smiles a bit at him, pleased to know they can still dicuss things like this with ease. ]
Perhaps this is our opportunity to use this para-magic for good, if only for a while. And I won't say anything to Arthur if you wont.
no subject
[Merlin meanwhile, it trying to not start grinning madly and let on that this means a whole lot more to him than than it would to any other servant in Camelot]
Arthur...he thinks all magic is evil. He won't understand. But we can still find out more, and see what it really is like.
[he pauses]
And I know someone here who has magic. But she can only heal, she can't use it to hurt anybody. I think you should meet her. [grin] You two would probably get on well, actually.
no subject
[ Nope, no hidden meaning behind that at all.
Gwen gets a bit of a mischievous grin on her face when he mentions this girl. ]
Oh? I think I would be glad to meet this girl. Especially if she can show me a thing or two about healing.
no subject
[Oh no Gwen, don't be like Arthur...]
I don't think it's really something she can actually teach anybody. I think hers is the kind you definitely have to be born with.
no subject
[ Sorry, Merlin. She really must take a personal interest in this. ]
I see. Well I would love to see it in action, perhaps once I've settled. She must be lovely.
