[One moment, Shadow was alone, minding his own business, and the next he's...still alone. Perhaps not much has changed besides not having Rouge and Omega around, but it doesn't mean he likes being transported to places against his will.

At least he has been here before.]

[The first thing he does, besides look around in discontent, is go to a computer to check his own file. Sure enough, he's there, with his old student number to boot.]

I might be wrong there, so don't quote me, but that's apparently the popular rumor.

Didn't know she could have that much sway here. [A token of generosity, or some sort? Shadow finds this new 'gift' odd and purposeful.]

[He means it too: whenever Shadow walks in, Tom'll already be at the counter with two mugs of beer. Tom can't quite remember if Shadow's good with beer, but hey... if Shadow doesn't want it, Tom's not complaining.]

[Shadow...never had beer before...or any alcohol. He walks in, spotting Tom immediately, and the two drinks on the counter. Red eyes surveyed the lounge in scrutiny.]

Is this what a lounge is like?

[He really needs to get out more.]

Bronson. [He takes up a seat next to him, raising an eyebrow at the drink.] What's this?

Beer. [He blinks, shooting Shadow a confused look before taking a sip of his own drink.] Wait a sec...

You mean you've never had one?

You're not going to make a scene, are you?

Not unless you try some.

... I'm just amazed I hadn't given you some before now.

How often do I actually stick around long enough for something like this?

[Shadow does look at it warily, before lifting the mug for a sip. The taste is bitter, but it isn't that bad.]

What's in it? [He should have asked first before tasting it.]

[snorts] Touche.

Um... alcohol? That's why anyone'd willingly drink beer. [It certainly doesn't taste good enough for Tom to drink it otherwise.]

People have odd tastes when it comes to drinks. [Who would be willing to drink something this bitter? Maybe it's an acquired taste. But in any case, Shadow will drink it in small intervals. Or if Tom doesn't notice, he may just leave it there.]

Now, what's the president of Esthar's wife doing here?

[Tom shrugs.] That, I'm not sure. Seems she was affected by Time Compression, just like we were, but I hadn't thought to ask her about it.

Of course. Everything is blamed on the Time Compression. [Typical.] Hasn't the president come to look for her?

Probably. I think she's got her reasons for staying here, though.

[As to what those reasons are, Tom doesn't know. He takes pretty much everything at face-value.]

They're her business, unless it involves us.

[The drink in his hand remained in the glass, unsure if it would be consumed by its owner.]

Did the SeeD exam take place?

Yeah. [He grins, finishing off his beer and gesturing towards Shadow's.] The ball wasn't as awesome as ours was, but it was still pretty nice.

... You gonna finish that?

Don't remind me.

[Shadow slides the beer over to Tom without answering the question.]

Are you still teaching classes?

[He nods, setting down his own glass and taking Shadow's into his hand.]

Yeah. Boxing and Stats now... mainly 'cause the old teacher got assigned on a field mission. No idea if I'm any good, but the kids don't complain too much.

Maybe I should use my time better...

[He had been thinking about teaching a class for some time now. Now he thinks it might be worthwhile to actually do something. But what, exactly, is something he hasn't figured out yet.]

Maybe. [Tom's not one to speak: he still hasn't handed back old grading assignments.]

You still going on missions every now and then?

Haven't seen any yet. I just got in not too long ago. [Like at least three hours ago.] I'll see if any are good enough to take in the next couple of days. [He does look to Tom a bit curiously.] You seem like you'll be too busy for missions.

I haven't gone on one since I came back to teach. [It feels weird, admitting that, but he hadn't really thought about it until now.]

I've taken missions in-between, but it's mostly intel work and analyzing data sets, so that stuff can be done here on-campus.

You're gonna get rusty that way.

[Shadow raises an eyebrow at the mention of such duties.] That isn't your area of expertise, though. [He's aware that Tom didn't specialize in Intelligence as he did.]

Maybe, but I'm getting better at this teaching thing.

[He shrugs; he's pretty aware of it too.] Not really. But I'm good with numbers, and Garden likes it when someone can crunch out numbers pretty quickly for those data sets.

Haven't heard complaints about you yet.

[Now Shadow is curious about all those data sets that needed completion during his absence.]

Just what was so important that Intel couldn't get to quick enough?

They wanted the distributions of weapon sales. [He shrugs.] I don't know much beyond how much was sold to what area and what the average price and who's more likely to buy more weapons.

I wonder if there will ever be peace here. [Quite the statement coming from someone who wanted to blow up Earth.]

Not in the near future at least. The influx of "villains" or whatever didn't exactly help our reputation. I'd hope so, but... judging from the numbers, it'd be stupid to say otherwise.

[He gulps down the rest of Shadow's drink and promptly orders another round.]
