[In the library Merlin was staring at one of the computers. He'd wanted to look at the books (they'd said that he couldn't go home, but Merlin wasn't sure if he believed him. In any case, he had to try and find a way back to Camelot, and maybe something in them would help him understand this bizarre place), but when he'd asked the keeper of the library they'd told him that the catalogue was in one of these strange magic boxes. They had to be magic, because one side of each box glowed.

Merlin had no idea how he was supposed to get this catalogue out of the magic box though. Did it need a spell? But they'd said that people didn't like 'unnatural powers' here, and Merlin wasn't going to use magic when he didn't know what would happen if he did.

Gingerly, he poked at the glowing thing. Nothing happened.]

Open?

[he poked it again]

...Please?

Um. [Her ears drooped a little] Lets just say I was in a real bad spot when I was brought over here. I'd rather not go into it.

[She tapped the bottom of the mouse to indicate the sensor] I'm not an expurrt on how these things work, but if you put it back down on the table this thing will be able to tell how you are moving the mouse--slide it slowly around while on the table and the point [she now taps the screen where the pointer is] will mimic the movements you make.

[Merlin's a little suspicious about that, but he doesn't ask further

looking a little like he's not sure this will do anything, Merlin puts the mouse back on the table and moves it around, while looking back up on the screen. He stares for a moment, not quite sure what he's meant to be seeing, before realising that when he moves the mouse, that one little symbol on the screen really does move! He starts moving the mouse around in crazy circles, without any kind of rhyme or reason other than to just watch it move, grinning all the while]

[Oh. Well this is kinda amusing. Nepeta can't blame him though, that was her exact reaction when she first handled a computer. She's just going to let him have his fun till he's ready to learn more. Grinning a bit here.]

[It takes Merlin a full five minutes before he starts getting bored of just moving the cursor around endlessly. And by then, he'd also forgotten that he was supposed to be careful about Nepeta]

See all these different tiny pictures? [She points to the different icons on the screen] They are called icons. They repurrsent diffurent purrograms that you can open up. Purrograms are...

[Man it was really kinda strange explaining this stuff from someone who had no foundation. Luckily, since she had been in the same position a couple sweeps ago she had some idea of how to go about it]

They are like tools that you can use to get certain things. Like fur example click on this one. [She tapped the one that looked like a map]

[tools made sense to Merlin - everybody used tools - although the idea of icons was still a little strange]
