[ Rocking forward onto his toes, nimble fingers snag a book from one of the shelves and draw it down to tuck under his arm. It was easiest, most days, to find Professor Xavier in the library or in his office. As of late, more so the library, picking up new bits of information for the students and welcoming any questions that might need answering. If nothing else he was a friendly man, albeit a tad arrogant at times. A few steps to the side and down another aisle he pauses as he slides a chess stratagem book he plucked secondly from the shelf over the much heavier mathematical biology book. Wrapping his arms securely about the set he makes his way down toward the public computers. He had a simple little note to put up before he decided to slink back to his office and spend the evening reading; ]

Dear TAC 101 & BIO 101 Students; While I have always been one to appriciate creativity in most forms, I find that writing a section into your essay of 'why it should get an A' is more detrimental than anything otherwise to your grade. I'm not going to point anyone out specifically, but those few know who you are. I simply didn't count the section toward your overall word count and have sent the essays back to your inbox. Other than that everyone seems to be doing rather well, I'll see you in class. Professor Charles Xavier

[ His expression softens and he turns his gaze down to the board. ] You're always welcome, you should know that-- but I wouldn't make you leave.

I've no idea where I would go-- or if there's anywhere worth going to, not yet anyway.

Who says I want to be here on my own accord? If it means going after Shaw, then you know I'll be there before you.

[ He moves a rook up, capturing one of Charles' pawn. A useless move really, but one he needed to take. ]

It could be going after Shaw, I don't know-- the constant need for battle here... [ He trails off, his ever present pacifism wasn't something he needed to elaborate on to Erik. Another drawn out pause before he makes his move. ]

It simply seems so unrest.

[ Now they're getting somewhere. ] I wouldn't be opposed if it wasn't for that feeling of dislike I'm getting. The students here just seem so normal...

[ He trailed off a moment, clearing up this thoughts as he moved a bishop forward. ] Like they're afraid of us if they knew what we were.

They would be-- your a witch, or a sorceress as they call them here. [ A little chuckle passes his lips as he rests his chin on his palm. Letting his fingertips gently touch against his lower lip. ]

Our kind are almost less welcome here, it seems.

That sounds just as ridiculous as it is. [ Should have kept that to himself, but too late for that. There's a sigh of frustration aimed towards everything wrong right now. ]

I'm not sure which is worse, persecution back home or here. It feels almost medieval.

[ He moves another piece forward aggressively. ]

I felt better back home. [ He takes his time as he continues to play with that same ease he usually did. ] It is, all this amazing technology and it's very set in the past.

[ There's something reassuring about Charles' movements on the chessboard. He folded his hands, resting his chin on top of them and studied the board before moving a piece forward. ]

All this technology and there's still one flaw to it.

[ He tips his head to the side, obviously trying to catch onto Erik's plan of action as he slowly edged another piece on the board. ]

What might that be?

Don't tell me you can't guess what it is.

[ Like Erik would give it away that easily. He smiles as he topples over another one of Charles' pieces. ]

Can't you just tell me? [ He glances across the chess board, raising an eyebrow at him as he toyed with his bishop. After a moments pause he slid it into place. ]

I could, but where would the fun be in that?

[ He moves another piece forward. ]

Let's just say not everything here is plastic in case I need to defend myself.

[ He let out a soft snort, ] I've never had any doubts about your ability to defend yourself. [ He furrows his brows in thought, focus drawn to the board and silent for a minute before he moved his knight. ]

I appreciate your vote of confidence. [ Erik moved a rook forward, watching the board carefully before he slid it firmly into its spot. ]

But in the event they turn against me, it's to my advantage when they find themselves on the losing side.

If it ever came to that, we'd leave. [ To Charles it was that simple, he wouldn't say in a place that would turn against his friend so easily. Neither of them deserved that sort of thing-- here or at home.

He pressed the tip of his finger to a rook, sliding it across the next four squares, pausing to double check before pulling his finger off. ] Perhaps I'm just homesick.

You wouldn't be the only one. [ He moved a queen to the side deftly, without any second guesses. ]

I hope you weren't planning on a check any time soon. But I could use your support should anything happen.

[ He cracked a little smile, amused at the familiar style of Erik's moves. ]

Hoping for it? Perhaps, but planning on it? Never. I play you because you challenge me, but I think you know that. And you'd have it, you know that too-- or you should.

Of course I do. A reminder here and there shouldn't hurt anyone. [ He sits up straight, eyes focused on the board. Instinct suggested Charles had something planned aside from that half attempt of a check. ]

Sometimes I wonder why you do play me. If there isn't some ulterior motive involved besides just a challenge.

[ He chuckled softly, biting the corner of his lip eyes flickering from the man and their game. ]

And just what would make you think that? [ He slides a pawn forward a pace. ]

[ He moves another pawn forward, capturing Charles' newly moved one. ]

You seem to be losing on purpose. [ There's a hint of a smirk there. ]

[ Charles quirks a brow, moving another pawn forward, ]

Do you think that's what I'm doing? Why would I loose to you on purpose?

You tell me. I'm not the telepath here. [ He counters the pawn with a knight, preventing it from moving forward in future moves. ]

I'd worry if you were. [ He teases as he slides his bishop across the board. ]

Now, I hardly see any joy in giving you bragging rights.

Care to share your thoughts then? [ No seriously, what do you mean by that? Erik looks down at the board and moves his own bishop close by. ]

You don't have to give me bragging rights, I think I can earn them myself.

Not this evening, no. [ A small smirk curves his lips as he glides his knight over the board. ]

You do-- you asked about me letting you win. I've no doubts about your prowess.
