[ Rocking forward onto his toes, nimble fingers snag a book from one of the shelves and draw it down to tuck under his arm. It was easiest, most days, to find Professor Xavier in the library or in his office. As of late, more so the library, picking up new bits of information for the students and welcoming any questions that might need answering. If nothing else he was a friendly man, albeit a tad arrogant at times. A few steps to the side and down another aisle he pauses as he slides a chess stratagem book he plucked secondly from the shelf over the much heavier mathematical biology book. Wrapping his arms securely about the set he makes his way down toward the public computers. He had a simple little note to put up before he decided to slink back to his office and spend the evening reading; ]

Dear TAC 101 & BIO 101 Students; While I have always been one to appriciate creativity in most forms, I find that writing a section into your essay of 'why it should get an A' is more detrimental than anything otherwise to your grade. I'm not going to point anyone out specifically, but those few know who you are. I simply didn't count the section toward your overall word count and have sent the essays back to your inbox. Other than that everyone seems to be doing rather well, I'll see you in class. Professor Charles Xavier

You should work on your poker face, Charles.

[ He moves a knight across the board, a smile soft on his face. ] Check.

How do you know I'm amused at the game, and not just amused at you? [ He cocks an eyebrow almost humorously before letting his gaze fall back to the board. Taking the time to slide his king one pace to the right and behind his singular rook. ]

I've no need to be serious right now.

[ He moves his knight back on the next turn. ] And what's so amusing about me?

Many, many things my friend. [ He inches that same pawn across the board. ] But in this instance I could have sworn you just growled. [ And there's an airy chuckle following his words as he glances up again, removing his fingers from the piece. ]

Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. [ If Charles can hide things, so can he. Or at least very badly attempt to deny that he did in fact, growl. He slowly moves a bishop across the board, doing his best to prolong the game. ]

One of these days, you're going to divulge everything you're hiding about me.

I'm quite sure you did. [ There was that sparkle of amusement still in his eyes as he sat back a bit, observing the board for a quiet few seconds as he planned his next set of moves. ]

Oh, I am? [ A smaller, more breathy chuckle. Charles wasn't entirely sure he was fond of this concept; if he were to be honest. For as interested as he was in other peoples thoughts, though politeness dictated he stayed out of them for now, he was rather private about his own outside of the obvious pacifism and need for coexistence. ]

[ He scoffs; no use denying that to Charles anyway. ]

Of course you are. I wouldn't consider it if it didn't seem like there are some things you'd rather not say to my face. Do you think me easily offended?

Easily offended? No, I wouldn't say that. [ A soft shakes of his head as he finally makes his move. ] What makes you so sure it's something you'd be offended by?

[ Call it paranoia or just Erik being worrisome again. He pressed his hands together, before folding them on top of each other and watching the board intensely. It wouldn't be like him to admit fear, but Charles seemingly hiding something did set him on edge, especially in an uncomfortable place like here. ]

A little clarification wouldn't hurt though. Consider it the positive reinforcement you're so fond of. [ He moves another piece forward, not looking up at Charles as his focus lies solely on the board. ]

Erik, I would give you positive reinforcement if I was so sure you'd believe me. [ He leans forward, over the chessboard a bit. ] How do you know I'm not just trying to distract you, Erik?

You know I'll believe you Charles, you have yet to betray that trust. [ Someone's a little too close. He looks up to see Charles looking right at him. ]

What could you possibly be trying to distract me from?

The chess match. [ He scoffs a little, sitting straighter as if that much should be obvious. ] Perhaps this is all my nefarious plan.

You're far too nice to carry out some nefarious plan. Bluffing won't help you there. Or are you just delaying the fact that it's still your move? [ He leans forward even more, glancing at him. ]

[ He can't help another soft chuckle as he turns his gaze on the board for a moment. A quiet debate before he slides his knight in the distinct L shaped pattern. ]

You've a point.

[ He moves his own knight after a moment of thinking through a few moves. ]

Why does it feel like you're just laughing at me?

I might be, just a little bit. [ He admits as he slides his fingertip over the bishop before nudging it at an angle. ]

You're unintentionally endearing my friend.

Just when I think I understand you, Charles. [ He moves his own knight again a few places forward and to the right. ]
