case 11 | BBS + action

I've tried asking the teachers this already, but it looks like I'll need tutors this Quarter. Again. Not for languages this time - unless any of you know Japanese - but for actual classes I'm taking this Quarter, like Boxing, Survival Skills, and the "age appropriate" math classes I've been forced to take.

If anyone's interested, let me know. I'll pay you well in something, even if it isn't in cash.

[Sometime later today, after he's made his BBS post, Damian's chilling in the Quad underneath a shady tree. (There's even a banner for "VOTE AANG FOR HOMECOMING PRINCE" over his head.) He's got a math textbook on his lap and a pencil in his hand as he's attempting to do math homework. Judging by the amount of eraser shavings, it looks like he's struggling a little bit... with basic 7th grade math.

There's also an old-fashioned (by Damian's standards) phone lying a little to his side, but it's not immediately obvious until someone's sitting next to him. As it is, he's not really aware it's there. After a moment, he hits the back of the tree in frustration... and immediately sticks his hand in his mouth. Right. Some things just can't be solved with violence.]

[Danny has been taking quite a few walks outside, particularly in the Quad. He so rarely ever gets to go outside at home that being able to freely here is, literally and figuratively, a breath of fresh air.

He stops when he hears a THUD against a tree nearby and turns to look. The boy sitting under the tree looks familiar for some reason...but that doesn't matter now. He approaches the boy and notices the math homework. Danny turns his head a little to see what sort of math work it is and--hey, he knows this stuff!]

Hey, um. Do you need any help with that? [He points down at the math work.]

[Damian makes a face as the other guy comes over, pulling his hand out and wiping it on his jeans. At least his fingers weren't bleeding - that was an upside.]

Maybe.... [He's not going to ask for help outright because hey, this guy's a complete stranger.] Is it that obvious?

I wouldn't say 'obvious'... I just figured you had to be hitting a tree for some reason. [Nervous laugh.]

[LOL it is okay apparently most people under the sea are either on something or grumpy. But she's going to bend over his book to see what he's doing, she's sort of nosy like that.]

[It looks like Damian is having issues. As much as their last fight wasn't fun, he's still his brother, in some sense of the word. And judging by the way he was throwing that math book, well.

Tim came over with a small smile; he had to contain his laughter, after all.]

[Okay, this is kind of weird and slightly unexpected. Damian looks up from his homework, setting his book down as he looks up at the other guy. Nah, it couldn't be Noah; Noah was blond. Unless he dyed his hair?] Is that you or am I in the Twilight Zone again?

[That startled him. This wasn't Damian? Was this another Kon/Connor deal? But he'd met Damian here already, so what was this?]

No...It's Tim. Tim Drake. Did you hit your head or something? [Looks at him warily.] Damian?

[ She's walking by, and her eyes are drawn by the sign. As a result, she sees Damian punch the tree with some force, and goes over to investigate. ]

Is your hand all right, cadet?

[ Without her translation collar, her accent comes out. It's been smoothed out with long, arduous practice, but Damian might certainly recognize it. ]

[That accent... Damian opens his mouth, then firmly clamps it shut as he glances back at the Instructor. Normally, he'd give some kind of biting retort, but it's been so long since he's heard a voice like hers.]

I'm fine, ma'am. [Switching to Arabic:] Thanks for asking.

[ There's a moment's startled pause, before her lip twitches in pleasure. A language she knows! It's not precisely the same as last she heard it but... ]

[ Elika's Arabic, just like most of the languages she speaks, is ancient. Damian might struggle to keep up if he isn't careful. Elika glances down, catches an image of geometric patterns. ]

I doubt the tree will give its arithmetic secrets up so easily.

[Duo leans forward a bit, eying the stranger's homework curiously.]

You got a thing against erasers? Because you seem pretty set on killing yours.

[With this observation he plops down on the the ground near Damian rather casually, he's not known for paying much attention to things like personal space after all.]

You want some help? I can do stuff like that in my sleep by now, so helping you figure it out wouldn't be a big deal.

[Piloting is part instinct and part math after all. Have to hit just the right angle or you're toasted in some situations you know? So needless to say math and Duo are buddies.]

[Damian snorts as he watches this other guy just plop down beside him. It's been a while since he's seen a Middle Eastern approach to personal space (ie, none at all.)]

[She says "practice" instead of "I'll tutor you" because she is rubbish at boxing. Sure, she's had a marked improvement over the quarter and probably shows up to tutoring with less bruises now, but she is still pretty bad.]

[Well, the banner with his name on it draws his attention, so Aang heads over to join Damian beneath the tree. He plops down next to him on the ground (not without using a bit of airbending to cushion his landing) with a smile.]
