oo1. This is me in Grade 9 [action/open]
[Lost Junpei is lost. The school deal he can handle. The dorms deal he can handle. Even the giant inexplicably floating island-sorta-thing he can handle. But he's not all that great with directions, and he's pretty sure he's been past this corridor about six times already. He doesn't want to ask the creepy guys in robes with turkey platters over their faces--they don't look very hospitable--but he's starting to wonder if he's ever going to find his dorm room. A217... A217...
Crap.
These books are getting heavy. He really wishes he had his stupid purple backpack right about now.
Hefting the books, Junpei turns down yet ANOTHER corridor, hoping perhaps to find a big helpful YOU ARE HERE sign.]
[Perhaps he'll find [Bad username or site: witchesreign title=you @ livejournal.com] instead? 8D]

Nice to meet you, Ryu. [The Japanese meaning of the name isn't lost on him, but he doesn't think much of it right away, since Ryu's speaking English.] I was just looking for some of my classrooms, since I know I'm prolly gonna wind up being late otherwise. I can't believe I have to do magic stuff at 8am! Why's school have to be so damn early, huh?
no subject
[Don't mind him, he's just used to waking up early for fishing related reasons.]
I didn't know people ever went to school. This is my first time ever being in a school. I grew up near a farming community, and they didn't have much use for school when harvesting needed to be taken care of.
no subject
[Oh well.
He looks a bit surprised at Ryu's explanation.]
Oh, farm kid, huh? That's kinda cool; I guess that can't be easy. What sort'a stuff did you grow?
no subject
[He closed his eyes in thought for a moment, counting things off on his hand.]
Wheat, corn, some other stuff. The essentials. The villagers did most of the work. My brothers and I grew up in the nearby forest. I imagine it's beautiful this time of year, but I haven't been back there in almost a decade.
What's your home like, Junpei?
no subject
Wait, you grew up in a forest? [That sounds majorly hardcore.] Cool! My hometown isn't quite that interesting, I think. I was going to a school--not entirely unlike this one, only with less awesome weapons and magic classes--on a little island off the coast of a big island. There's trains and skyscrapers and shrines and stuff. No farming, really--that's more on the main island where there's more space. But we have a mall. And... uhm... ramen.
no subject
[Sorry Junpei, most of your words are lost on the poor boy.]
What are those things? I've never heard of Ramen before, and I guess if you lived on an island, you guys must have had ships, right?
no subject
Hm? Oh, you've never...? [Well, he guesses that makes sense, that a farmboy might not know what a train or a skyscraper was.] Well, ah... Trains are like... uhm... It's a way for people to get around where I live. And skyscrapers are greeeeat big buildings. [This is accompanied by Junpei standing on his tiptoes and stretching one arm way up above his head.] They're called that because they actually look like they're going all the way up to touch the sky.
You've never heard of ramen? [Now that's just blasphemy.] Ramen is like the staple of life, dude! They're awesome noodles in this fantastic soup and they're really cheap and... man, I'd so have died without ramen. [Many a forgotten school lunch was saved by the purchase of ramen. Junpei really didn't have enough fat cells below his head to be able to afford to skip meals.]

Dude, there's no ramen where you co-- [Gasp. A terrible thought has just occurred to him.] Wait, is there no ramen here? [Junpei likes apples, too, for the record, but suddenly the idea of possibly never eating ramen again has consumed all his thought processes.]
no subject
[The poor guy looked like someone just stabbed him in the back. Ryu thought it best to reassure him a little.]
Er, I don't know if it is or not. You could always go to Balamb Town and get the ingredients for it, right?

Anyway--what classes are you in? Maybe we've got a few together. It's tough bein' new, but I've met some pretty cool people so far, so I guess this won't be so bad.

[Ryu digs around in his coat for a good minute or so, retrieving his Class List (http://dragon-savior.livejournal.com/10192.html#cutid1) from his coat, then passing it to Junpei.]
