[Marco is wandering around campus about to do Disciplinary Committee Rounds and whistling to himself. As he whistles, occasionally a few birds come and land on his head or shoulders or arms and whistle and tweet back to them. In fact, by all appearances he appears to be talking directly to them. Still he continues walking around, deadpan as can be, as though there was perfectly nothing strange about being surrounded by a bunch of birds asking why he has to be out so late and are phoenixes related to owls, and hey where's that loaf of bread he promised? They've got babies to feed you know!]

So long as you hush when I'm sneaking up on someone you can have a hotdog too, okay?

[One bird keeps tweeting an objection to this. She doesn't like hotdogs.]

Fine, you can have fruit.

[This seems to quiet her down.]

I'd like that, since I seem to be surrounded by the avian species as of late. [That reminded him about a something he needed to give to Marco. Takes a moment to bend over his bed, pert little rump in the air before coming back with a cube shaped box wrapped in blue, shimmering paper with a gift inside. He looks to it before handing it over, practically shoving it under Marco's nose.]

Maybe I just like holding onto you. [Small smirk.]

What's this? [Blinks and opens it up, and instantly starts laughing.] I notice that it's red. [Kisses Grell's cheek.] Well thank you cutie. I quite love it.

[Watches him open it in anticipation, pouting at the laugh, but it was approved. He was worried of that part.] Of course. I needed to give you something that would remind you of me.

Of course. [Beams.] I'll treasure it forever. [Sets it on top of Grell's head and pets them both lightly.]

[Takes it off and cradles it. Well, more like grips it tightly in his arms.] You're supposed to hold it like so.

[Cradles Grell thusly.] Tell you what, you hold the baby, I'll hold you.

I thought he said 'You drop the baby, I'll hold you' WTF SELF?!

[Hums in content, not at all questioning Marco's mother hen mode currently. It felt nice to be held like this. Warm. Protected. Cared for.]

Deal. Now, teach me how to talk to Macabre? And all others with feathers.

Well, I can teach you phoenix. It's a little different bird to bird since most of them only have a few calls. Like nighthawks. You just have to pick up the application of the tone and atmosphere. But phoenix should be universally understood by birds. It's sort of the royalty of birds, eh?

Here, this is "hello." [Whistles a low little "twee-whoo"]

[Listens and tries to mimic it, although it sounds a bit higher than Marco's.]

OOPS! [Goes to try again, aiming deeper and closer to what Marco did.] Better?

Yup, that works. Now drag it out a little sharper and longer and you're basically asking what's going on. Which can mean anything from is there any danger, or how are the babies, or I hope your family's well. It's not as specific, it covers all of those, it's just about the atmosphere. If there's lots of birds of the same species, it's usually just someone coming into the conversation asking about the babies. If it's a lone bird hiding calling to another, it's asking about danger.

[Oh dear, that seemed a bit difficult, at least the explanation made it so. Grell gave it a try anyway, making a sharp sound, but it wasn't elongated enough.]

Too short. Draw it out a little more. [Demonstrates.]

Sorry, it's not an easy language. Some of the sounds are hard to even really mimic for humans.

[Mutters something about not being human before trying again, much closer than before.]

Yeah, that's about right. A little too accented, but you can work on it. [Snuggles and curls up around.] I'll teach you more later, eh?

[Pouts and looks up to Marco, settling into the embrace. And he really wanted to learn right now! Distracted well, though. Good job, Marco!]
