Point is. It's stupid to hate somebody for what you think they should be.

Has Marco ever murdered or raped or looted? [Sokka doesn't think so.] And I can name a ton of good things about him. He was one of the first people here who was nice to me. And he looks out for me. And he told me he'd find me a messenger hawk so I could send a note to my girlfriend. And he's taught me a LOT about girls...

Well he was trying to kill me and my friends. I threw Boomerang at him and hit him in the third eye and so when he tried to shoot his laser beam out of his forehead he blew himself up. And he was on a cliff. That blew up too.

And it sounds like a good thing. Some people need to die.

Because I'm a Marine. A soldier. I kill to protect innocent civilians. Pirates kill for their own benefit, for entertainment, for riches. For fame. They murder civilians, Marines, and even other pirates. It's not comparable.

Sounds like you're just making an excuse to kill the people you kill. They're still people. You could put them in jail instead.

And when I can, I do. But when you have a choice between killing a guy quickly and going to save the civilians or your crewmates who are in danger, or taking the time to be careful and put him down without hurting him too badly and ending up with the civvies or other Marines dead, I know whose lives I'll favour.

... I don't know. I don't care, either. He's still murdered, he's still a pirate, and I'm still gonna arrest him one day. That's an end to it.

You don't even know why Marco kills. But you don't care. Because you've got your big ol' Marine pedestal to stand on that lets you think you're better than everybody else.

I'd rather have Marco for a friend than you any day. He'd take me to the infirmary because he cares, not because it's his job.

He kills because he's a pirate. It doesn't matter why he became one, that was decades ago. What matters is that he willingly slaughter ships full of innocent people. And no, I don't think I'm better than everyone else, but I'm sure as fuck better than the sociopathic lunatics out there.

I'd rather have duty than caring, any day. I'd take anyone to the infirmary - even the Phoenix. He'd only take people he actually have a shit about.
