Docked in Dollet - OPEN to everyone in Garden

[At 0900 hours, the announcement bell chimes and once again a voice much more youthful than the Headmaster's begins to speak.]

Good morning, inhabitants of Balamb Garden! This is your pilot Nida speaking. Now that we're docked in Dollet, it's time to get our vacation on! That's right - everyone's free to leave Garden and stretch their legs. Hyne knows I will! [He sounds so eager and can't help but give a little laugh.]

Please remember to stay safe while exploring and don't go getting into too much trouble! Oh! I forgot - curfew. I know I know. Not something you want to hear, s-sorry! Anyways. About that curfew. Good news! All cadets are given an extra half-hour in which they must return to Garden for the remainder of the night. Instead of having to check in at 2300 hours, curfew for this week is 2330 hours.

Don't worry though. We'll be here all week! Plenty of time to sight see and whatever else you want to get done.

Have fun, everyone! Maybe we'll bump into each other.

[The announcement ends, and the intercom clicks off.]

Students are free to roam around the city or keep within Garden if they so desire. The second term will start August 1st-- until then, it's vacation time!

[ Where there is food, there is Minako; it's a fact of life. She's already seated inside the cafe - still dressed in her school uniform - enjoying a slice of cake, bliss scrawled all over her face.

When Minato enters, she raises her head and glances over, her attention caught for a reason she cannot understand. ]

[Also for some reason he can't quite fathom, he immediately notices the fellow student seated inside. It's certainly not because she caught the attention of every single Persona in his head.

He looks around. A lot of the tables are occupied - it seems that this is the rush hour for this cafe, or maybe it's just that so many students at Garden are in the city and all the establishments fill out more than usual. Either way, he decides to approach her.]

Hi, do you mind if I join you?

[ Surprise flickers on her face when she notices that he's looking over at her too. She looks on curiously as he walks over and nods in response to his question, smiling at him. ]

Sure, I don't mind!

[ Minako puts her fork down, looking down at her unfinished cake for a second, before she raises her head again. ]

Um, this might be a strange question, but... Do I know you?

[Minato smiles in thanks, and takes a seat.]

Well, I know I would recognize someone like you if I had seen you anywhere else. But I've been in Balamb Garden for the past term, so you might have seen me there.

[He remembers the post he had read in the weekend, and figures he might as well introduce himself, even though he still hasn't had a good bead on her character.]

My name's Minato Arisato, by the way. What's yours?

Ah, no... That's not possible. I arrived here just this morning.

[ When Minato finally introduces himself and asks for her name, she takes a second to process it, breaking out into a grin when she's sure she didn't mishear. ]

Hey, our names are almost the same! I'm Minako Arisato. Nice to meet you, Minato-kun!

[ ...which still doesn't explain why he looks so familiar - could he be a relative? Minako doesn't remember her cousins too well. ]

Past term, huh? You've been here a while.

[Huh. That is a weird coincidence. Maybe they're related? But no, Minato's met most of his extended family (even if he doesn't remember them all that well), and he certainly doesn't recall seeing her. Someone from a similar world, maybe?]

Likewise, Minako-chan. Ah, it's alright if I call you that, right?

Yeah. It's a bit overwhelming at first, but thankfully Garden's a lot like my previous school, so I adapted fast enough.

It's fine!

[ Cheerfully, she leans forward to listen about Minato's previous school and arrives at a conclusion, because what caught her attention the most was- ]

Your previous school was mobile too?

[Yyyeeeaaaahh, he should have expected that. Especially since he can't very well say that he fought monsters at night in his old school.]

I meant more the general workload. I don't think there are a lot of mobile schools, even in other worlds.

[A slight pause]

There might be some that change shape, though.

[ Imagines for a brief second Gekkoukan being mobile... She wasn't sure she liked the idea of a moving Tartarus.

When he mentions a school changing shape, however, she can't help but mention, mostly in jest: ]

A school that changes its shape in an hidden hour?

Also gets the mental image of a mobile Tartarus - it looks like something out of an old-school TV show.

He blinks in surprise at her comment, but decides to play along.

Pretty imaginative of you, Minako-chan. I'm guessing all but a chosen few would be unable to be in this hour?

[ "It's real" she wants to say but that would be a weird thing to say to Minato-kun. ]

Uh huh, it's a hidden hour after all.

[ Pausing thoughtfully; it's her turn to say something, right? ]

And some of the people who can move during this hour have a special ability! How does that sound?

[He realizes it sounds like a lot of shonen shows, aside from the 'school transforms in a hidden hour' thing]

Pretty good, though they would need a reason for that special ability. What if there are some sort of monsters that prey on humans during this hidden hour, and the group of people get their powers to fight them?

[ Unexpectedly, it's hitting closer and closer to home. ]

You're really good at this, Minato-kun!

[ Minako hmms. ] A power to beat Shadows, huh...?

Thanks, so are you.

[Wait what.

Minato blinks. She actually referred to them as Shadows - probably a coincidence, but the fact that she brought up the 'school that transforms during a hidden hour' thing, it's becoming less and less likely.]

Maybe something light-related? ...no, wait, 'Shadow' is also a Jungian term, so calling this power by another Jungian term would make the whole thing sound less simplistic.

[He's not going to call it Persona, though.] Maybe something related to Philemon?

[ It was purely accidental, Minako lifting her hand to touch her own lips when she realises the error on her part. That Minato carries it on surprises her but makes her reconsider what she thought she knew.

If they were talking about Jung... She decides to suggest innocently, ] What about 'Persona'?

[He admits that one doesn't count - if she knows about Jung, of course she would say 'Persona'...

Maybe he should go further? See how eerie the similarities can get.]

Yeah, that sounds good enough. The heroes could shout it dramatically when they call forth their powers, and since they would be taken from a 'collective subconscious', they could be any sort of cool, mythological beings.

[He then adds, almost as an afterthought.] Like this world's GFs!

Calling out your attack name is a staple of action manga. It's a must!

[ However, when he mentions GFs, Minako's face slips into a thoughtful expression. She doesn't know much of them, only that her Personae have somehow become GFs and that using GFs has some sort of side effect. ]

...say, Minato-kun. Did magic or creatures like the GFs exist, back in your world?

[Minato takes a moment to ponder how best to answer that, then decides that there's no harm in telling the (carefully edited) truth since they're in a world where magic does exist.]

They do, though they're not nearly as commonly known as they are here. I mean, I thought magic and those creatures only existed in fiction and myths until... wow, it's almost going to be a year ago, counting my time here.

[ > That Minato has shared some details of his world with you, you feel closer to him now. ]

Me too.... Oh! Not that it's been a year, but...

[ How to start? She was never the one who had to explain the Dark Hour. ]

Actually... Shadows are the creatures I was fighting, alone with my friends, back home. [ Minako looks up, smiling gently. ] Nothing I said was made up.

[ > Minako has confided in you; you feel closer to her now.

> ...yes, close enough to confide in turn. It's only fair.]

...to tell the truth, I've also been fighting Shadows with my friends before being sent here; I didn't make anything up, either. [He smiles slightly] Well, except for the mention about Philemon, but that's just because I didn't feel like saying 'Persona'.

Huh...?

[ Though she had a feeling deep down, to be told this now... Was there another group beside SEES fighting? No, Fuuka would have been able to sense them.

Was it possible for two separate worlds to be so alike...? Parallel worlds? ]

Minato-kun, do you know of Nyx?

[The thought of parallel worlds crosses Minato's mind as well. It would be the best explanation for everything so far.]

Sure, she's the Greek goddess of the night, mother of Hypnos and Thanatos... and a being closely related to the Shadows, who brings the Fall once summoned.

...let me guess: a group of people in your world decided to gather a large enough amount of Shadows to call Nyx, say, eleven years ago, only one of the scientists sabotaged the process?

[ She gives a nod, understanding that the same must have happened in his world. On one hand, she feels a sense of relief - that there's a bond connecting the two of them. On the other, she would not wish the Fall on anybody's world. ]

...have you fought Nyx?

[He shakes his head.]

Got sent here just when I was going to give her arbiter my answer.

[ Minako giggles lightly at the awkwardness of that situation. Looking apologetic, she offers a smile. ]

Sorry... I understand. Moments before I found myself here, we - my friends and I had managed to defeat Nyx's avatar.

[ She doesn't want to mention what happens next: Nyx's retaliation, her friends falling from the pressure around her... ]
