I've heard about the troubles Garden's suffered while I was gone. Good job to those of you who got through them; I don't imagine it was easy. And for those of you who are new here, welcome to Garden.

My name is Blues, and I'm the instructor for Art & Music Appreciation on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as Advanced Weapons Training: Firearms and Projectiles on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you have a question about these courses, come speak with me directly. For those of you taking Art & Music Appreciation on my days, I need to meet with you as soon as you're able.

I'll be in my office for a few hours, but I can schedule a day for meeting if you feel the need for it.

As a last note, everyone, both cadet and SeeD, need to be on their guard while outside of Garden. Sol Invictus seems to have gotten ruffled about something, and if it's enough to upset them, it's not something we can afford to ignore.

[As he said, Blues is hanging around in his office, just working on some papers as well as a side project of sorts. A large case is sitting at the side of the desk, currently closed, while a robotic green cat is lounging on a corner of the desk, snoozing.]

[Much later in the afternoon, but not quite evening, anyone who goes into the Quad will be hearing a strange, yet beautiful, song.

Blues himself is settled on the branch of a tree for lack of short buildings, whistling the song and watching the skyline quietly. His last mission has made an uncomfortable worry settle into him, and unlike back home, it's not a worry he can push away. That was the one problem about this place, wasn't it? He's gotten too close to everyone here, too personal. And it's because of that he can't just help and leave, like usual. But he's too deep in to back out now, and even if he could... he can't just abandon those here who've counted on him.

But again, that leaves that uncomfortable feeling that there's a storm on the horizon, and he can't stop it alone.

Sigh. Blues reaches down to rub Tango's head, the support unit curled up on his lap to offer some semblance of comfort.]

"Ruffled"?

You know, I've never really considered Sol Invictus much of a threat. If anything they seem fairly neutral - they've pursued off-world tech pretty aggressively, but what else have they actually done?

They've attacked people or places without provocation purely to take that off-world technology from them, hurting those who've done nothing at all but possess the wrong thing. Furthermore, they've attacked various SeeDs on missions, also without provocation, using those pieces of off-world technology against us. If it was just pursuing the technology, that would be worrying, but not inherently a problem.

"Aggressively" doesn't cover it -- they seem more than willing to use everything they have against everyone else no matter the consequences to those in their way.

I'd say that's enough to warrant caution with them.

Maybe. They are a potential problem. However, I would think if they were an active issue, there'd have been more trouble and missions related to them in recent months. The most significant thing they've done lately is contact us and warn us about that mage, which doesn't seem particularly aggressive to me.

I'll give you that they have a lot of tech, though.

Deception is a matter of perspective. If you want to deceive someone, just change the way they perceive you. Humans can do it simply enough with words and programs -- how much more could someone with non-humans and technology from different worlds manage it?

What seems to be helpful could actually be a way for someone to further their own goals, just shown to us from a different perspective.

Translated, that appears to mean "be suspicious of everyone in the whole damn world."

Don't be suspicious of everyone, but do be cautious of those who seem a little off.

"A little off" is so vague, it could just be a personality quirk.

It certainly could. But that's why you use caution, not suspicion.

Unfortunately, Sol Invictus is nothing like Doctor Wily. We have no prior evidence proving anything beyond a doubt about them, but their actions are enough that we should be careful of them.

To be clear, I'm not saying not to be cautious. I'm just saying Sol Invictus doesn't seem like much of a big deal to me, so a warning to be specifically wary of them more than, say, Galbadia - who have attacked us - sounds weird.

I would assume that being wary of Galbadia -- or anything like them -- would be common sense and didn't need noting.

Point. But I'd still say Galbadia's more of a threat to us and gives us more reason to stay on our toes.

So we should focus on one threat completely, heedless to others that might become a threat?

No, that'd be stupid. It's just an observation that Sol Invictus hasn't really done anything against us as an active threat.

There's a lot of threats. It seems weird to single them out.

They're a force that is, at the very least, as strong as us. But they lack the same code, moral or otherwise, that we have. We've seen that with their attacks on others to take any technology they want. And as I said before, the amount of off-world technology they're amassing is a concern as well.

A powerful force that doesn't care for those native to this planet, has a level of technology the likes of which is very likely far and above Garden, and has proven willing to attack without provocation? I would say that's a perfect reason to single them out for caution at the very least.

Pretty sure we don't know how they operate, when it comes to codes and stuff, for all we know they have one. But fine, whatever. Please yourself. Caution's great, so at least there's no argument on that front.

No, I don't know for sure, and I'll be the first to admit it. The only ones who know what code they use are Sol Invictus themselves, and we aren't in a position to just ask them.

What I do know is I can make a calculated guess based off their actions so far, and my systems aren't so fried that I can't see the patterns in what they do. Regardless of their actual goals, they don't care for the people native to this world -- the very people we're supposed to help and protect. That is enough to put us at odds with them, if nothing else than just for now.

They cared enough to turn down that mage and warn us about his plans.

The question is, why? Even if we assume that they did it with no ulterior motive -- which I'm not inclined to believe just yet -- their track record suggests they weren't warning Garden. They were warning us. The other off-worlders.

No, because I'm not psychic.

Who knows? The fact is, they warned us. They don't really seem particularly invested in Garden's offworlders, save that one time they decided to follow a group on a charity mission.

It doesn't take psychic powers to read data.

They don't seem particularly invested in anyone but themselves, quite frankly. But this is all speculation -- without speaking to them directly or finding some other information, there's little we can say for sure.

Most people aren't in the habit of reading data the second they meet someone. It's kind of rude.

And yeah. It is speculation. So how about we leave it at that until we know something more concrete?

They could always ask.

I'm not about to ask everyone I talk to on the BBS "hey, are you a bot?"

I would thought Tango, at least, would have been a tip-off.
