So... what do people think about becoming an Instructor? Something you wanna do? Or if you are one, why'd you become one? What's it like taking the classes for it?

Is it worth it?

I'm... not really sure. I mean, I don't think that it's something that I'd want to do for sure. It might be pretty interesting. But I don't think I'm going to want to do something like that until I've been a SeeD for a while.

I mean, better to have a lot of actual field experience before you decide to teach, right?

See, that's just it. I dunno. I never really thought about it before, but it would be kinda cool, wouldn't it? I could always teach martial arts...

Well, do you really have to decide right now? You can always go on a few missions while you think about it more.

And then if you think it's something you want to try, you can go ahead and take the classes you need.

Well, hopefully you'll get some other advice then. I mean, advice from someone who already decided to do it might help a lot more than stuff from me.

Teaching is tough work! You have to do all sorts of paperwork! But I like teaching about cooking and crafts so everyone can have an outlet for all their own non-fun stuff during their cadet life! So the benefit for the cadets outweigh the gross mountains of paperwork!

Paperwork? Like what? How much paperwork can there be for teaching somepony how to cook a pie?!

FOR SHAME, DASHIE! An instructor has to watch their students carefully and grade them on not only their performance, but if they were paying attention to the instructions, if they were awake or absent, test them on what they've learned in class, and if they can whisk eggs with their toes!

There is more to Home Ec than making pies!!

...I really don't remember it being that complicated when I was taking that class with you. (Except maybe when we were trying to figure out how to accommodate hooves for the whisking class but that's not the same.)

Taught for a year in t-garden before they decided all instructors needed to be seeds too. It was pretty cool. Can be real boring too. And sometimes you want to bite some of the little shits in your class. But you do things to make it interesting and remind the shits that they can say whatever they want but at the end of the day you are the one in control. Its cool seeing them learn and put things together that they didnt know before though. And some even start to realize that their good at it when they thought they wouldnt be.

If you want to see if its something you want to do you can try being a teachers assistant for awhile.

Kind of. But if the instructor goes out of town on a mission you get to take over. And you can see what sort of work you gotta do and how to handle a class and shit like that. If you can handle being an assistant you can handle being a teacher. Get it?

Yeah, I getcha. That makes a lot of sense. But how do you decide what to teach?

Think about what you were good at as a cadet. Or maybe theres things you do every day that you dont realize are the same things youd do in a class.

Like i never thought i'd be a teacher. Didnt go to much school and i dont really got the smarts for it. But every day people wound up asking me questions about like the way things work and shit. And one day thatch goes "see your already teaching!" and so i figured why the hell not at least give it a try. And it turned out while i was taking classes that some of the stuff was really interesting and made a lot of sense. And i guess because of what i am people kind of listen to me more when i talk about biology and basic genetics and natural selection and shit like that. Most of the lessons are already planned out ahead of time too so all you have to do is like remember to take your notes with you and tell the smartasses that are trying to jump ahead to sit down and shut up cuz youll get there when you get there.

So anyway. Maybe try to think of things you like to talk about and figure out what class lets you talk about it the most.

Hmm. See the thing is, for me, that's flying. And unless there's a bunch of pegasi around I don't know about, my options for teaching that are pretty limited. And I like piloting but I'd HATE teaching it, so that's out.

I want to get my rank up and doing missions takes too long. [He pauses for a bit. That's just his tsundere answer. Truthfully...] And awhile back I realized I didn't know the new kids around here as well as I should. Classes are a good way to assess their skills better.
