There's a slug on the horn [BBS/Action/Open]
Might be a bit late for this, but who can tell when Christmas is supposed to fall on a world like this anyway. So! Merry Christmas, Balamb Garden!
To those of you who've expressed interest in trying your hand at Potions, we will be starting that up tomorrow evening, do stop by if you have any magical potential. I'm afraid Muggles need not apply -- that's nonmagic folk to those of you who don't know the term. Potions is a wizarding art, you know!
And to some of you, I'll look forward to seeing you tonight!
-Professor Slughorn
[What's tonight? Why, Slughorn's holiday party, of course! By invite only -- and how do you know if you get an invite? Well, if you have great magical potential, if he knows you and voluntarily gives you the time of day, or if he doesn't know you, then you're in! Invitees can bring a guest as well!]
[The party itself is held in Slughorn's office, which is approximately the size of the quad right now thanks to some fancy Charms laid on the room, and bedecked with emerald, crimson, and gold wall hangings. A man not without contacts, Slughorn has managed to cadge a remarkable spread of food and drink from Balamb Town and possibly Champloo, sitting on the tables beneath glittering lights. Slughorn himself is making the rounds with a smile, eager to meet guests and invitees he doesn't know.]

It's a pretty damn nice arrangement, though. She just has to wonder how he managed to make his office this huge. It'd be awesome to have that much space.)

[Slughorn approaches with a broad smile on his face, which promptly slips comically.]
Oh dear. Completely at a loss for the proper etiquette. Is it "Instructor Daring Do" or just "Instructor Do"?

Nice setup here, professor. Got some magic keeping it together?

Which reminds me: what makes potions something for wizards and magic-users, anyway?

How does para-magic work into that, though?
no subject
It doesn't. Useless for the purpose. It can't be properly directed.

At least there's plenty of potential students...you know, ones with actual magic. Hopefully the whole "different universes" thing won't get in the way.

You got it, professor.

[Aerith smooths the fabric of her new dress with an anxious smile. She's still not sure of the usual atmosphere at these parties.]
Have you tried the punch?
[Action]
(Never be anxious around the pony, Aerith. She's very casual, all things considered. She'll help you get adjusted.)
Yup, he's got some pretty good punch set up; turns out ol' Slughorn can throw a mean party.
You considering signing up for his class?
no subject
It'd help to be able to fix things without magic. Just in case I can't cast.
no subject
And if anything, I'm pretty sure there's items to let you cast again in case you can't.
no subject
Your students are learning that lesson well, they must be.

Take my hat, for example; to just anypony, it's a regular hat. To somepony with a little creativity, it can be your ticket out of a tight spot.
(Daring proudly twirls her hat on a hoof.)

[She touches her ribbon thoughtfully---beginnings of a rope? Tool of distraction?]
Well I'll be there to patch you all up if it gets a little more dangerous than expected. But it shouldn't at a party, right?
no subject
Pretty sure it's not that kind of party. Nah, those are the ones that are so awesome, you can't fully remember what happened.
Still, I appreciate that all the same.
no subject
I'll see you soon, Instructor! Don't party too hard.

He's wearing his usual suit but the tie isn't black for once, and he's in a vastly better mood than the previous week.
He can be found most anywhere, after all why not see what he can about his fellow instructors hm?]

[Slughorn appears practically out of nowhere, a goblet in one hand, a small pie in the other, and a bright smile on his face.]
Eat, drink, and be merry! It's not up to my usual standards, but it will pass muster for this year.

[His tone is dry and he only flinched a little at the sudden appearance.]

Isn't it amazing? Some of our offices could use some interior decoration like this.
no subject
I'm not sure it's suitable for everyone, but it's certainly festive enough.

[Aerith pouts, reaching up to curl a strand of hair around her finger.]
Anyway...what do you think? Of the party, I mean.
