BBS; Russell Drake's ID: A message from the GFC (backdated to last week)

Hi everyone!

As co-leader of the GFC, I'd like to ask you all what kinds of things you would like to see in our end of year Garden Festival, be it a specific tradition from your world or something broader like a concert. This festival will be a three day celebration, so go nuts on suggestions! (We may use them in future GFC events if we can't cram them into this one.)

What we natives have planned so far is, per a local holiday honoring Shiva, mostly built around being warm and friendly to your fellow man and woman - or pony or chameleon or whatever - by giving time and money to those less fortunate or in need of a little extra help, and giving presents to our loved ones. There will be a school fair for students and staff to sell arts, crafts, and food of their own making which would make wonderful gifts, volunteer work, a feast, and a traditional release of candles on the ocean. More details will be released closer to the time!
[Ongoing poll for the dates here. We're leaning towards the 26th to the 28th as suggested outside the thread but still on that post, but can be swayed if this doesn't work for a lot of people.]

We would love to include traditions from other worlds in our festival and have a truly united celebration, so please help us help you celebrate!

RD

Fireworks! There's gotta be fireworks and winter activities. The possibilities are completely endless for a Garden Festival!

- A Winter Ball
- Ice Sculpting Contest (seriously, creativity with GF's anyone?)

Just to name a couple.

Oh yeah! I kinda forgot we have those so don't mind me! ;)

Maybe instead of a winter ball, maybe a winter sports competition in the name of good fun?

Well if Trabia got rebuilt like I really, really hope it did, I don't see why we couldn't move the Garden up there for a few days.

[She wants to check up on her friends that survived the missile attack, obviously. Ulterior motives for the win.]

You don't know about the missile attacks on Garden during the war?

[You figure stuff like that would be entered into History and all that jazz. She's not going to mention the devastation she felt that day. It's a pain that still lingers in her and still has her wishing that she could've done more to prevent Trabia's destruction.]

Great! I'm so relieved to hear that. I didn't want my friends up there to freeze. The winters are really, really cold up there.

Did I? Sorry about that! I didn't mean to.

Kinda? I used to be on the Garden Festival Committee though and I'm really happy that Garden Festivals are still happening!

I'm Selphie by the way!

I could assist in some of the traditions from Gaia, though the one's I'm familiar with are from those who follow Shiva as a goddess.

The season starts with the first snowfall, that night candles are placed in the snowbanks.

More candles are placed the next new moon or overcast night to light up the night, stories are told and talents are shared. It is during that night that children are named and lovers often come together. Weddings are often performed within the following week for those who wish Shiva's blessing upon their union.

Instead of gifts, carved ice with candles within them are given to those you admire. They are also floated on water for those who have departed.
