[Tobias has mostly been keeping to himself, his studies, and his family lately. With everything that's happened, he's really just wanted to introvert for a bit -- at least as much as he can with the people he cares about. But all this time, a question has been nagging at him. Bothering him. He's certainly not the naive child he was before, but some things he simply can't seem to understand.

Which is why he's turned to Garden for help.]

What makes a bad person "bad?" Is it when they hurt someone? Or destroy something? Or is just thinking about doing that enough to be bad?

And... why do bad people do those bad things?

I'm just really confused about all of it. How do I know if I'm supposed to think of someone as "bad?" Or to not?

I remember Espio saying that I trusted people too easy and I was too forgiving. [There's a pause before the rest of the words.] I don't know why it's bothering me now. But it is.

And I think Espio just means that if someone hurts you, you shouldn't always assume you deserve it. It's complicated.

I don't know. She either tolerates them or growls at them, but I can't really tell why.

I don't think I deserve it from everyone anymore. But you and Espio and Mom are family.

I guess we can call that "instinct" then.

You don't deserve to get hurt by us either kiddo. Especially since being your family means we want to protect you that much more.

That's how Pokemon do things a lot.

If I didn't deserve it, why would you do it? You're my family. You wouldn't do something like that for no reason.

You have instincts too, but humans have a lot of other signals so they have to learn how to have to sift through them.

Because we're not perfect. Sometimes we have accidents or mess up, but we'll always try to do better and keep you as safe as possible. That's what it means to be family.
