[Despite everything that's been going on, Luna has been doing her best to try and keep things as calm as possible and find a way to get everyone to relax. Sure, she'd been speaking about this earlier, but she hadn't the chance to fully make sure everything had been in order. Somehow between reconstruction and classes she's put things up around the school, little things here and there to make the Garden more... festive.

Things like cobwebs, spiders, pumpkins, the typical Halloween fare one would see around this time. Luna, on the other hand, is taking this time to find the highest perch she can. Those familiar with the last time she did this might get a sense of deja vu, particularly since she's using her Nightmare Moon form with the lovely fake fangs she's fond of.

Having adjusted herself she messes with the camera to make sure that it gets this shot in case people don't see her from where she is.

Large wings spread out behind her, pushing her into a lovely rearing position. Don't ask how she's keeping her balance, it takes a lot of luck and skill. Be prepared for the return of the Royal Canterlot Voice.]

Our dear subjects! We know that things have been tough upon us all, but one must not always be work and no play, it is not good for the mind nor the body. Thus, on this day, We declare that a break is to be had in order to enjoy and take part in the festivities befitting your Halloween, alternatively, We are accustomed to Nightmare Night of which has about the same meaning.

[She pauses for a moment, letting herself fall heavily back to her perch, head sweeping back to move her mane from her face.]

A night of enjoyment, of costumes, of treats, of tricks, of celebrating the night as it should be. But, our dear subjects, there is more to it than you may think. We are not particularly proud of the history behind Nightmare Night, but We feel it is something to be shared and to be learned from.

You see We are from an interesting place, a place ruled by ourselves and our elder sister who controls the Sun while We control the Moon. Day and Night. Celestia and ourselves were in this position to keep balance, however being as young as We are, We steadily had become jealous towards our sister for the ponies enjoying the day but sleeping during the night. Thus our jealousy had turned into hate and anger, changing and twisting our form into this one you see now. No longer going by Luna but by Nightmare Moon, an enemy towards Celestia, trying to be rid of the sun forever and leave nothing but night.

Safe to say that We had failed in that attempt to take over, thwarted by what was called the Elements of Harmony, imprisoned in the moon for a thousand years. In that time frame Nightmare Night was formed, initially used to scare foals by saying that We would come and eat them if they did not give us an offering of candy.

A thousand years came and went, being freed but still bitter We had tried again to take over. We had managed to be rid of Celestia for a brief time as she no longer had a connection to the Elements, though We were eventually stopped once more by the Elements when they were brought together once more by a group of ponies. Luckily this brought us back to our senses, back to what you are accustomed to seeing and back to being the keeper of the night and moon as well as co-ruler to Celestia.

Thus Nightmare Night has recently become a celebration the likes of the Sun Celebration, one that We hope will continue to flourish and be a fun time with spooks and tricks just as much as it is treats and fun.

[After that whole speech she can't help a light laugh.]

And do not worry, this form is taken by will and is nothing more than an appearance change, We are still Luna.

((OOC: So, yes. Nightmare Night/Halloween. Luna's gone out of her way to decorate Garden and possibly set up a few little traps and tricks of her own. Feel free to have your character set up something or be in costume or what have you. She'll clean up the day after the night, no worries. Thought this would be a nice little thing to come off hiatus for and to get Luna to explain herself and her world a bit more.

[Jecht is wandering through the halls of Garden, looking around at the decorations with a fairly baffled expression, a hand working the muscles of his neck idly as he tries to make sense of all this.]

[It is a bit strange, isn't it? That she'd take her time to decorate things for something that initially was made to appease her evil side. Once she had finished her speech she'd taken to wandering the halls despite the fact some of the natives seemed unamused with her little scene.

When she caught sight of Jecht she seemed far too amused and proud of all of this nonsense, voice not hiding it very well.]

Ah~ We think We did quite a good job this year, do you think?

You don't know how to do things halfway, do ya?

[He offers her a smile that's three-quarters genuine. He appreciates her work! He thinks her story is interesting. He just hates that look on her. Costume or not.]

[With a light laugh she allows her costume to fade for the time being, shrinking back to her normal size with an all too amused look still on her face. She stretches her wings once again, really feeling strange not using them as much as she did back home.]

Of course not. Why do something halfway? Then there is no point in it, no?

[Jecht visibly relaxes once she's back to normal, grinning as he reaches over to give her a fond slap on the shoulder.]

Your halfway'd be like other people's twice as far. Admit it, you're just a big ham.

[Luckily for him that after all of this time she's used to that sort of fondness, shifting a bit with it and laughing once again with it.]

Shh, We are not a ham~ Just because We are fond for the more... dramatic does not mean we are a ham.

[The fondest of tones, nudging him with her shoulder.]

Unless us being a ham makes you just as much of one.

You know it. When you're up in the sphere, you need big motions and dramatic gestures! When the crowd's there to see ya, you gotta be seen!

See. This is the one time of the year where We are allowed to be as such, thus We are taking full advantage of it. It is our celebration, after all, something akin to a makeshift birthday, We suppose.

You say that, but don't tell me you don't get into it in your drama class. Almost makes me wish I didn't have my own classes just so I could see it.

...birthday?!

Well, Celestia and ourselves really do not celebrate anything else regulated like that as... it is... rather hard to do when you are over a thousand years old. So a celebration is a celebration, no? Nightmare Night celebrates the night of which is my realm, so in a way it is a once a year thing like a birthday?

[Jecht looks at her for a minute, then points a finger at her.]

You stay where I can find you.

[Then, suddenly, he turns and hustles off at speed!]

[Head tilting at him, though she's not moving from her spot.]

... We were not planning on leaving here any time soon. [Not that it matters much, he's gone by the time she says that. Weird, she's particularly curious as to why he ran off like that.]

[Coincidentally, it takes about a minute longer than a hurried trip to his dorm room and back before Jecht reappears, casually tossing a small, wrapped package to her. He trusts she can catch it with magic, after all.]

Was gonna give you this later, but you can't go without a birthday present, so, happy birthday.

[Well, he heard the shouting from outside, but aside from knowing who it was, he couldn't make out specifics. Until he saw the video on the board, that is.

Color him a bit confused - his world doesn't have anything like Halloween. There's gift-giving on the Winter Solstice, but... nothing with tricking and treating and the night. Naturally, he replies not out of curiosity, but as a student who spent that repair time trying to get away from class.]

If I take part in this, is that extra credit?

[Hah. She really didn't expect any different, last time she'd done something similar to this a certain other pony tried to use it to get extra credit, as well.]

It depends on how far you would go with it. There is a lot that goes with the holiday, things like decorations, costuming, festivities of that sort. Merely saying you are going to be a part of it and doing something with it are two entirely different things.

[Thankfully, Locke can read between the lines. "Extra credit involves extra work". Fair, though a little frustrating. As he re-listens, a few questions come to mind. He keeps most of them to himself, though, knowing how hideously INSULTING it would be to compare a relatively sane (if old-fashioned) instructor to Kefka.]

...what exactly is involved? I... assume the decorations and festivities are about the same as, well, any other holiday festival, but... we don't really have anything like this where I'm from.

[Seriously. Any "holidays" about powerful ruling beings were because oops, Kefka nuked a city, time to fear Kefka some more.]

[She wouldn't be who she is if extra credit didn't mean extra work, have to earn it and all that. She's quiet for a moment or two, though, trying to figure out what she hasn't already covered. And sanity is relative, she's pretty sane for a pony.]

Ah, is that so? Well! The point of this festival is to be spooky, to do tricks and to scare others. It is all in good fun, mind you, so nothing that will harm anyone physically or emotionally if it can be helped. Thus costumes are typically used that are your typical scary fare, monsters, ghosts, things like that. Though some tend to opt to costumes they like, which is quite fine, too.

So it's... basically a prank day? With candy?

[Oh hell. He's still rooming with Gintoki. Oh hell.]

Essentially, yes. As long as you do not upset people in doing so, then it is perfectly acceptable.

[Hah. Good luck, Locke.]

[Sure, he's confused--it's not like there's anything like Halloween on this world, either--but it's a little less shocking to him. Luna is his drama teacher, after all. There may be some expectations being fulfilled here, okay?]

That's some story, ma'am. [He actually sounds respectful, there. At least, respectful for Zak...]

[Even her own life is full of drama and excitement of some way or form, it was a natural fit for her. She catches his voice as she's returning to the ground, wings being pulled tight to her body once she has all four hooves back on solid ground.]

All of it being nothing but the truth. We figured the time good for both reflection as well as some amusement to get minds off of what has recently happened. It is better for there to be a time of rest instead of stress as it is far better for the psyche.

That's true enough, I guess. [Commitment? What's that? Still, it comes close enough, for him. At least he sounds genuinely interested, which is something.]

So what's the point? You dress up? Does anything go for costume inspiration? I'd probably need to find a partner if I wanted to try to dress up like a pony, for example.

[Except you'd probably do better as the rear end, Zak...]

[Commitment is that thing that Luna tends to do far too easily, but enough on that. She tilts her head a bit at him, switching back to her normal form and spitting out the fangs in her mouth to make speaking a bit easier on her.]

The reason it was created was I suppose to teach children to fear us or just as another holiday for whatever reason. A night for pranks, candy, parties, things of that nature. Or that is how We take it, there was always something of a festival back home even before We took out the fearing us part.

(There's a round of applause coming from one particular pony. Is that Rainbow Dash in a very spot-on Daring Do costume? No, but it sure as hell looks that way.)

It sure is nice to look back on the history of things, isn't it? Maybe not so much this one since it's Nightmare Night and all, but it's good to know how things came about.

[What on Earth? Luna tilts her head a bit at the other pony, having not gotten the memo about her just yet. Sure, she'd heard the tales and the like, but considering the season and considering how close she looked to someone else, she couldn't be sure.

Thus when she was back on the ground she had to investigate, the voice was different and that was something.]

Exactly. If one does not know history then they are doomed to repeat it, even if it means having to recall tougher times. We are certainly not the being of fright that We used to be, but that does not mean We forget that it ever happened.

(The resemblance to Rainbow Dash is uncanny. In fact, the face and body structure are exactly the same. The colors are the main difference. And the voice. And maybe even the choice of words.)

Some would say it's easier to forget such things, but that's completely incorrect. With no past, you have no history to learn from. You can't develop without knowing your mistakes or your accomplishments. As much as it'll hurt, it's for the best.

[Well, that sort of gave it away that Daring certainly wasn't Dash, which is somewhat a relief. She's unsure as to how book characters can be walking around like this, but weirder things have happened in her time.]

That is precisely why We felt it needed to be told once again, even if the story really does not matter in this place. As far as those here know, We were a princess and are now merely an instructor and SeeD like the rest of the place.

(It's all thanks to the special crazy magic that keeps Garden going...probably. Maybe.)

Even if it doesn't mean as much as it does in Equestria, it's still good to know each other and where we come from. After all, we're all in one place, right? No point in not getting acquainted.
