[One of these days, this guy might get bored of setting up weird, ultimately pointless science experiments in the Quad. Today is not that day. He's laid claim to a large patch of dirt not too far away from the stage (nobody seemed to be using it, all right?), and... planted a large purple gemstone right in the middle of it, apparently. Odd. Where'd he get that from?

Right now he's busy scratching arcane-looking geometrical patterns in the dirt with a small stick, only periodically glancing over to make sure the jewel is still there. He looks downright cheerful, which might be more novel than the shapes he's drawing. No telling how long that'll last if anyone disturbs his circles, though.]

[REQUEST PARTLY IGNORED. He comes over, but doesn't touch the circles.]

So, these patterns determine and direct the flow of energy to reshape objects or basically the thing that makes it do what you want it to do? Right. Okay, that sort of kind of makes sense, but... you didn't use these to make massive bridges, so I'm guessing this is more complicated stuff... and what's that?

[A sudden shadow is cast over the patterns Ed is drawing and the man responsible for it is actually quiet at the moment, considering the circle being drawn. Just what are you up to now, Ed?]

[Well, this shadow sure looks familiar. At first he pretends to ignore it - he highly doubts there's any version of Mustang in the entire multiverse who's willing to take a hint, but he can at least try.

After a few seconds, he stops drawing and looks round. (Also, up. Mostly up, actually.)] Is there a problem, general?

[Roy gives Ed a curious glance, looking down toward the boy for a moment before his attention returns to the circle. He gives the circle a wave of his hand as he speaks finally.]

What are you trying to accomplish with the array?

There's a carnival the entire weekend with yummy food and games to play. :) Also former Garden students come to hang out and see their school.

That would be a popularity contest. Every year, people vote on a Homecoming King and Queen - two people who represent the student body. It's kinda different in Garden: The King & Queen are a guy and girl SeeD, while the Prince & Princess are Cadets.

you don't seem like the guy who'd be interested in that kind of stuff, so you should probably ignore it and move on.

It's an array. [He's too absorbed in drawing it to even glance up. Anyway, he doesn't recognise the voice... which means he'll have to deliver the alchemy-isn't-magic lecture if it carries on talking, and that would be unnecessarily distracting.]

That's a relief. Almost got the impression they expected us to show spirit for a place we never actually wanted to go.

Whether you wanted to wind up here or not, the school does stick its neck out to protect and help otherworlders, which is more than can be said for the rest of this place.
