[The Ragnarok lands briefly on Long Horn Island, dropping off the group with nothing more than their Garden-provided packs and a "good luck!" from the pilot and accompanying SeeDs. Have fun!]

Mod note: Be sure to be on the lookout as surprises may pop up in the thread. Each group is given one signal flare that should only be used if they require the immediate retrieval by a nearby SeeD squad sent to discreetly watch over them. Good luck!

[Please excuse Mikuru as she checks she has everything. Again. As if anything's disappeared from her pack since the last time she checked it on the Ragnarok and now.]

I hope we don't run into an Adamantoise...

It's okay! What am I, in a hurry?

Don't worry too much about monsters. If it comes to surviving a tough fight, we can always use our GFs as shields for us. Our first priority is to find a campsite.

[Maria isn't concerned; she's been looking forward to this!]

that damn Haste spell...

[Apparently satisfied with her supplies for the next five minutes, Mikuru zips up her pack again and nods, setting her chin.] You're right. Um, somewhere inland, so we're not trying to pitch on sand...

[gunbladegrrl]

Right. [She casts back to their lessons with a distant frown.] Fresh water should be our priority, since we don't have that. Let's see if we can find a stream.

[bunnypassingby]

Good point. [The best point, really. This is not one of Mikuru's better classes...

[Hefting her pack, she tugs absently on her new gloves as she picks a random direction inland and starts walking. She'd listen for the sound of running water if this island wasn't narrow enough that you can pretty much hear the sea from anywhere.]

[She mentally weighs splitting up against staying together, and decides staying together is best. So she steps along with Mikuru, keeping a close eye on the plants they're passing to assess their suitability for various tasks -- or alternately, danger. One never knows.]

OVER A MONTH LATER

[Mikuru's eyes are on the ground, searching for any trace of water. She bites her lip in concentration, and it's a few minutes before she glances up at Maria, because she's just realized:] Back home, I never thought I'd be doing anything like this.

[gunbladegrrl]

What, a Survival field trip? I guess I never thought of it as part of the curriculum either...

[She's not quite aware that she's on a different page entirely, as she pauses, then kneels down to examine some fungus growing in the shade of a large bush of some sort.]

[bunnypassingby]

[She's actually somewhere in the same chapter, at least. Mikuru shakes her head, glancing at the fungi.] That too, but... camping out on my own. Outside! And without a pile of gadgets.

[gunbladegrrl]

[Let's not risk the mushrooms unless they HAVE to.]

Really? You've never been camping at all?

[bunnypassingby]

No. People don't really camp back home... [Beat.] Well, a school I transferred to had a school camp, but I missed it.

[gunbladegrrl]

Well, this isn't much like the camping I've ever done, either. We didn't have limited supplies, for one.

[bunnypassingby]

What else was camping like for you?

[gunbladegrrl]

Well, the obvious ways. We knew where we were going, it was an established campsite where people were supposed to go. And we were prepared with plenty of supplies, and if we didn't have enough we could have gotten more. It's not like being stranded, like this sort of is.

[She bites her lip, because "stranded" just makes her nervous. No, she'll try and keep her mind off that...]

Who'd you go with?

[gunbladegrrl]

My parents. This was when I was about ten... I think I was ten at the time. It was kind of fun and kind of boring all at once.

[bunnypassingby]

[She laughs.] Sounds like some of my family vacations.

[gunbladegrrl]

I'd appreciate them more now, than I did then.

[She pauses, listens for a second, then steps forward decisively. They've found a stream!]

All right, I think we have camp then!

[bunnypassingby]

[Mikuru pauses when she realizes Maria has, brightening once she hears it too.]

Great! Um, do you want to share a tent so we only have to set up one? [Those things can totally take a few people.]

[gunbladegrrl]

Yes, that'd be for the best. Easier and more convenient overall. [She doesn't exactly picture Mikuru as a snorer.]

[bunnypassingby]

[Only when she's exhausted.]

Okay!

[She puts her pack down and starts digging around for her tent, looking a little happier now. Yay, camping with a friend.]

[gunbladegrrl]

[Maria, for her own part, is digging out her rope.]

We also want to lift our food off the ground to keep animals out of it. I remember that much!

[bunnypassingby]

Oh, of course! [She'd forgotten that part herself...

[Once her tent pack's out, she starts picking out all the pegs and ropes and sets them to one side.]

[gunbladegrrl]

Let's try to avoid using our paramagic stocks as much as possible. They'll be more useful for Junctions than as spells. And if we have the chance we should definitely try to Draw more.

[Maria is just full of ideas as she begins gathering up their rations.]

[bunnypassingby]

Definitely. [And with everything separated, Mikuru unfolds the main part of the tent.] I wonder if there are any Draw points on this island...

[gunbladegrrl]

They probably aren't worth looking for. Just a few spells, at the risk of running into nasty creatures or getting lost?

Yeah, that's a really good point.

[She pauses in her setting out the tent.]

Maybe we could draw a map, just of where we've been.

[gunbladegrrl]

That's definitely a good idea. We should also track this stream down so if we need to follow it we know where it's going.

[They are the best survivalists ever!]

[Winning at this field trip since 2012!!]

Alright! But first... [She sits at one corner of the tent with one of the poles.] Would you mind helping me with this?

[gunbladegrrl]

Oh, sure!

[She sets the rope down on top of their supplies, then comes over to grab one of the tent ropes and loop it over the top of the pole.]

[bunnypassingby]

Thanks! [She passes more of the pole over, lining it up over the tent, before realizing:] ... are we supposed to peg it before or after the poles?

[gunbladegrrl]

It honestly doesn't really matter, because when we get the poles set up it'll be all stretched out anyway, but there's no harm in doing it now. Here...

[She sets down the rope she was working on, then moves around to the other side of the tent.] Pull it tight, then we'll knock the pegs in!

[bunnypassingby]

[Mikuru nods, and tugs firmly on it. TENT, SHE WILL DEFEAT YOU.]

[Once they have it straight, Maria swiftly knocks in the stakes on her side, then tosses the mallet over to Mikuru. Then it's back to the poles and ropes for her!]
