[BBS] + [ACTION] Recruting!

If anyone is interested in assembling a small orchestra, please meet in the music room around 6pm. We need, at least five people, and any instrument is fine! I'll more than likely be conducting than playing, unless someone else wants to?

The reason for this is for an upcoming wedding! Don't you want to make a special day even more special?

[Sure enough, Gakupo is there, tuning a viola. A few other stringed instruments lay around his feet, already tuned. He's bored, and wants to get back to using any and all stringed instruments.

He's also tuning his voice as well, which is...embarrassing.]

[It had been a while since Kate had really practiced the cello, so she thought this might be a good opportunity to get back into the swing of things. Luckily for her, her cello came with her (along with everything else she practically owned--thanks for taking her between classes time compression), so she didn't have to borrow anything.

She shows up a few minutes before 6 and waves a little at Gakupo.] This is the orchestra practice, right?

[eggplantallergy]

La~ La~La--

[Stops abruptly and looks at the person waving at him. He clears his throat and smiles.]

That's right! Glad you could make it!

[hawkette]

Hey I have this cello, I might as well do something with it, right?

[She puts it down near a chair and goes over to Gakupo, offering her hand.] You must be Gakupo. I'm Kate Bishop.

[eggplantallergy]

Ah, the rich sound of a cello. That will be a nice addition, surely!

[He takes her hand and shakes it.] I am. It's nice to meet you, Miss Kate. How long have you played the cello?

[hawkette]

Pff, a while. 7? 8? Somewhere around there. Rich girl's must learn how to play an instrument, apparently. [She smiles.] I actually like it, though.

I've heard terrible stories about lucrative families forcing their children to enrich themselves in the arts. It doesn't make them appreciate it, I find. But I'm glad it's the opposite for you!

While we're waiting, maybe we can brainstorm a few songs that would be good for, oh, say...a wedding? [That's not subtle at all, Gakupo.]

[hawkette]

I think it was more my mom never pushed me like my dad, so she sort of let me ease into it.

You mean Grell and Marco's? [She doesn't know them personally, but she does read.]

[eggplantallergy]

You're very fortunate.

[Gakupo nods.] I offered to assemble something for their wedding, but I may have bitten off more than what I could chew. [Nervous smile]

[hawkette]

[Shakes her head.] I don't think so, I'm just not afraid to tell my dad "no," that's all.

Well how many songs did you say you'd arrange?

[eggplantallergy]

I usually had to debate with my father when I said no. [Or run laps. Or both.]

Luckily, I didn't say how many. But we should have at least three, including the Wedding March.

[hawkette]

I only had to stand my ground until his phone rang and he forgot what we were talking about.

What planet are they both from? Because I'll admit, I only know Earth songs.

[Gakupo does snicker at that. Memories. How short lived they can be.]

Ah...I'd have to ask Marco. I think Earth songs should be fine, as long as they fit the setting.

[hawkette]

[Smiles a little at that--it's good to see find someone else that grew up wealthy and seems to be relatively normal. It's refreshing.]

Well we wouldn't be playing the funeral march or pomp and circumstance...

I've heard his fiance is crazed, so a funeral march wouldn't be so far fetched...

Really? She certainly seems... energetic whenever I've run into her.

Unfortunately, that's all I know of her. Who's to say the rumours are true? [Even though they are. He just doesn't know it. And probably won't since I play Grell, too...]

It would be really interesting to try music that may not be from either of their countries...although Marco is a pirate, so I don't think he'll claim a country, per say.

[hawkette]

[She tries not to listen to rumors, so she just shrugs.]

Hmm.... Does this place have sheet music? I haven't taken a music class yet.

I don't think there are any music classes that focus just on music. There's a drama club, however. I think there should be some sheet music in here. [He places down the instrument he was turning and goes in search of some.] I know there's blank sheet music...

[hawkette]

[Puts her cello case down to help look.] Well that really won't help us...

Well, it could be helpful if we planned to write our own music. I do that, at times.

Ah HA! [Finds sheet music, but his look of triumph quickly turns to one of disappointment.] March of the Chocobos?

[hawkette]

True...

[Finds another thing of sheet music, only she isn't nearly as excited.] Found another one! ..."The Limit Break of Timber." Well, looks like we found some native music.

[eggplantallergy]

Maybe I should just find music later on and bring them here... [Their search isn't coming up with much.

[hawkette]

I'm up for practicing whenever you are... I'll practice a bit on my own so when we actually do practice it won't sound like I haven't touched my Cello in months. [So for now she'll be pocketing "The Limit Break of Timber." It's not like anyone else was using it.]

[eggplantallergy]

Likewise. Hopefully I can find something useable. [Hey, he won't say anything about her pocketing the music sheet.]

Well I guess this wasn't a total bust... It's nice to meet someone else with a taste for classical music.

[eggplantallergy]

Likewise, especially since the last person I played with may not be speaking to me for a while. I must apologize for not being prepared enough for this meeting, though.

Did something--you know, I shouldn't even ask, sorry.

And don't worry about it, I enjoyed myself.

Yeah, it's best not to go into it.

Would you like to practice something else in the meantime?

Sure. I'm not sure what you know, but I can do a couple songs without music.

How about I play something, and you can join in however you wish? [Gakupo goes over to his seat, picks up his viola, and after a few moment's thought, plays this lively piece. It's a good sonata to practice with and exercise his fingers.]

[hawkette]

Sounds good to me. [Sits down at her seat and pulls her cello out of its case just as Gakupo starts to play. She listens to him for a while, admiring his skill before joining in.]

[This is just what is needed. An impromptu practice session where they adlib here and there. The tempo is fast enough to put in some accents and quicker notes. He's really enjoying it, and Kate is quite talented in his opinion.]

[This was actually quite refreshing. Almost every practice she had attended had been so rigid and structured, but this...this was music for music's sake. All she had to do was close her eyes, listen to the melody and improvise if the mood struck. Sitting here, bow in hand, Kate realized just how much she had missed playing the cello. She would have to do this more often.]
