[In the quad, Aladdin is peering quizzically at the translation necklace. On his shoulder his pet monkey Abu looks at it with him, making a disinterested noise.

Chances are most people won't be looking at the young man or the monkey though. That persian rug which is floating in the air beside him and somehow managing to look curious is much more attention-grabbing, after all.

Aladdin hasn't put on the device yet, so when he speaks it's in Arabic, not English]

So what do you think, Abu?

[Abu natter's away in a tone that suggests he doesn't think much of the device. Aladdin grins and shrugs in response]

Hey, as long as it works. [He puts it on and spreads his arms, facing Carpet. Suddenly, his next words come out in English] How do I look?

[Neither Abu nor Carpet understands English, but they seem to guess what Aladdin means. In response, Abu huffs his disapproval - but Carpet seems like like it, giving Aladdin a cheerful salute with one of its tassels]

Oh, right, I forgot those things even existed. [Damn, Damian, not everyone can be multilingual like you.]

[You're looking at a guy who's got a flying carpet with him, Damian. A flying carpet which is still trying to play with that kitten, in fact. Aladdin's from a world which has much stranger things than animals that pick out their own clothing.]

Hey, it's pretty useful. At least until I pick up the language everyone uses here - 'English', right?

[Hey, he sucks at figuring out normal. Speaking of the kitty, though, Dusan will be swatting at Carpet's tassles.]

That does tend to be the language most people here speak, yes.

[Carpet doesn't want to lose its tassels, so it darts back and flies back to circle around Aladdin, peering back at the cat from behind him. Abu sniggers.]

Hey, Carpet. You gotta be careful. [Aladdin laughs] We don't want you losing any threads. [he turns back to Damian] See, I'll learn how to speak that, and then after that I won't need this anymore.

...And you're talking to a carpet. You're certifiable, aren't you?

Hey, this is a carpet who beats Genie at board games. He's probably smarter than some people.[Carpet nods at this. Yup, the rug is nodding at you, Damian.]

[Might be backing away slowly. You're crazy.]

[Aladdin shrugs. The kid's loss. Abu though, decides to pull a face at Damian as he leaves]

[Dusan hisses in Damian's hoodie.

Maybe their next meeting will go better?]
