...Hey, the hatch cracked. It looks like it'd open now.

[ Glares at the guy hard. Dammit, she wanted to get this mission over with, but nooooo. Jeeze, he's starting to look like Snow in her eyes. Then she turns to the cracked hatch. ]

Great. This is just what I needed... [ Still, taps the hatch and pulls a bit. Ah, it does open. ]

C'mon, it's this or the baby mission. What if they're hiding something down here? The basement is off limits for a reason.

[ enable, enable. he leans down to help her pull the cracked hatch up and push it out of the way. ]

Hey, stop the elevator. Don't want anyone walkin' in on us.

If they're hiding something, they're hiding it for a reason.

[ There goes Lightning's circular logic, complete with more glaring. She's almost tempted to not follow his demand, but... The baby mission doesn't sound too appealing right now... A loud sigh escapes her before she jabs the Stop button, and the elevator slows to a halt. She kneels to watch Yuri and the hatch. ]

[ it's no wonder their idea of 'a reason' differs greatly. yuri, who's kneejerk reaction is to assume the worst, is sure there's something nefarious going on down there. ]

Let's go, girlie. We got a ways to go down so no complainin' on me.

[ with the hatch out of the way and nothing but a nice long drop to the bottom to greet them, he starts climbing down first. hopefully there's a ladder or some kind of piping or they're boned and not in the sexy way. ]

It's Lightning, not "girlie."

[ Glaring, but also not gonna fight the inevitable, surprising as that might be to some. She could just leave him there, but... Yeah, Lightning was always felt to be the responsible one in most situations, so. She starts climbing down after him. ]

Oh, yeah? Well you can call me Yuri.

[ speech of course strained while they're on their grand adventure climbing down the elevator shaft of balamb garden. there's a ladder, but getting to it will take jumping from where they are at the underside of the elevator.

thankfully the elevator was stopped between floors so no one was going to be flattening them. ]

Can you jump?

[ She doesn't answer him, but shows him that she can jump - by dropping down and grasping the ladder as she passes by it. So easily, too, like she does this every day as Lightning steadies herself correctly on the ladder, and looks up at Yuri expectantly. ]

I guess...that answers that...

[ w-well. he kind of lowers himself off the edge carefully and jumps down to join her, but as he is not as SWIFT AS A COURSING RIVER he overshoots and ends up catching a much lower rung with one hand, avoiding a nasty death via bottom of the elevator shaft ]

No problem!

[ he yells up to her, because he knows she was really worried ]

[ Rolls her eyes and shakes her head before climbing down. Once she's gotten a shorter distance between her position and the bottom, she jumps the rest of the way down and lands gracefully. Looks up at Yuri again. ]

No problem.

Hey!--

[ she jumps right fuckin past him and hes still hanging onto the ladder mid-way down. moving his arm out of the way so he can look down at her, he snorts. he ain't about to jump down and break something trying to keep up with her acrobatic shit (do you know how long it takes to heal a broken bone? like five whole minutes, to hell with that) but he's not going to keep her waiting either.

LET'S BE PRACTICAL with yuri as your host. he moves his hands to the outside of the ladder and slides down to the bottom, landing next to her with a thud. ]

You always this much of a showoff or are you just puttin' on a show for me?

I'm not showing off; I'm making sure this detour ends much faster. [ Pauses and glances at him. ] At least as much as I can.

[ Looks around and sees what looks to be an entrance. Walks towards it. ]

...Hey, what's that look for? I kept up with you.

[ if you can call it an entrance. it's more like a service corridor, complete with flickering lights and rusty metal paneled walls. he follows after her, pausing to look around with his hands on his hips. ]

Well, that's what we get for taking the back way. Hey, there's another hatch at the end of the hall.

[ Yeah, she sees that. She turns to him. ]

Going to kick it again this time?

[ is that a joke. is she joking? aww. she isn't completely made out of stone. ]

Shaddup.

[ he goes over to grab the handle, tugging upwards. the damn thing is heavy as hell and doesn't budge. ]

[ She wouldn't mind seeing him try that method, but they - or rather she - have to complete later, so she walks up to him, grabs the handle of this hatch and gives a might tug-

Come on. [ She jumps down, and immediately, her nostrils catch the scent of oil... An oil stratum. ]

[ well now that he's been thoroughly emasculated, he jumps down after her ]

What's up with this place?

[ he lifts his foot up out of the puddle on the floor, shaking liquid off his boot. ]

It's like a goddamn maze.

Wouldn't be surprised, considering the size of this place and how it's moving.

[ Her hand goes to the holster sheltering her Blazefire Saber and pulls it out in gun-mode. Lightning knows the rules, yes, with one of the Garden's rules being that Cadets and SeeDs are prohibited from the use of weapons and para-magic in the Garden, but... Well, Lightning was already planning to visit the Training Center after her mission, so... It pays to be ready. Hah.

[ She begins walking down the path, cautious and alert because she feels there to be monsters lurking, then finds another ladder. Since she doesn't want to let go of her weapon now, she'll take a point from Yuri: Lightning positions herself on the ladder and slides down holding onto one side of the ladder railing with her free hand. ]

[ still at the top, yuri's shaking his head. he doesn't have to worry about arming himself since he's pretty much always ready to go. ]

Damn, you move fast, [ he calls down, waiting for her to move away from the bottom of the ladder before following suit. ] And what's with the sword? You think we're gonna run into someone down here?

[ he looks around while talking, observing the circular platform the ladder led them to. there's a door across the way and it's the only path to take other than back up, so it looks like that's where they'll be going. ]

We're technically in the basement of the Garden. Who knows what's crawling down here?

[ Doesn't hurt to be cautious. It'd be a poor soldier to be a caught unawares. At his question, she wonders how he can immediately identify her weapon as a sword, as it's still a gun, but she ignores that in favore of also seeing the door yonder and walking towards it. Once inside, they both find a valve to turn. ]

You turn it. I'll keep watch.

[ omg I FAIL AT FF13 PRETEND HE SAID GUN he is not that perceptive.

but back to your regularly programmed troublemaking he's going for the valve- ]

...Okay then. Let's give this a go!

[ and it's a bitch to turn just like the rest of the rusted piece of junk mechanisms down here. but if he puts his back into it he can get it to turn, slowly but surely.. ]

[ When he actually puts his back to it, she hears the rust squeak and groan and the place rumble around them. Lightning walks out, and is greeted with a huge hole where the floor they walked on was. ]

More ladders. [ Sounds exasperated at this point. Glances back to Yuri. ]

Come on. This was your idea, anyway.

[ The height looks very steep, and with the way Yuri's slugging around... A plan pops in her head. ]

[ it's a healthy pace! ]

He he, don't act like you aren't excited. You'd say to hell with it and leave me here if you didn't want to find out what's down here as much as I do, right?
