[ She wouldn't mind seeing him try that method, but they - or rather she - have to complete later, so she walks up to him, grabs the handle of this hatch and gives a might tug-

Come on. [ She jumps down, and immediately, her nostrils catch the scent of oil... An oil stratum. ]

[ well now that he's been thoroughly emasculated, he jumps down after her ]

What's up with this place?

[ he lifts his foot up out of the puddle on the floor, shaking liquid off his boot. ]

It's like a goddamn maze.

Wouldn't be surprised, considering the size of this place and how it's moving.

[ Her hand goes to the holster sheltering her Blazefire Saber and pulls it out in gun-mode. Lightning knows the rules, yes, with one of the Garden's rules being that Cadets and SeeDs are prohibited from the use of weapons and para-magic in the Garden, but... Well, Lightning was already planning to visit the Training Center after her mission, so... It pays to be ready. Hah.

[ She begins walking down the path, cautious and alert because she feels there to be monsters lurking, then finds another ladder. Since she doesn't want to let go of her weapon now, she'll take a point from Yuri: Lightning positions herself on the ladder and slides down holding onto one side of the ladder railing with her free hand. ]

[ still at the top, yuri's shaking his head. he doesn't have to worry about arming himself since he's pretty much always ready to go. ]

Damn, you move fast, [ he calls down, waiting for her to move away from the bottom of the ladder before following suit. ] And what's with the sword? You think we're gonna run into someone down here?

[ he looks around while talking, observing the circular platform the ladder led them to. there's a door across the way and it's the only path to take other than back up, so it looks like that's where they'll be going. ]

We're technically in the basement of the Garden. Who knows what's crawling down here?

[ Doesn't hurt to be cautious. It'd be a poor soldier to be a caught unawares. At his question, she wonders how he can immediately identify her weapon as a sword, as it's still a gun, but she ignores that in favore of also seeing the door yonder and walking towards it. Once inside, they both find a valve to turn. ]

You turn it. I'll keep watch.

[ omg I FAIL AT FF13 PRETEND HE SAID GUN he is not that perceptive.

but back to your regularly programmed troublemaking he's going for the valve- ]

...Okay then. Let's give this a go!

[ and it's a bitch to turn just like the rest of the rusted piece of junk mechanisms down here. but if he puts his back into it he can get it to turn, slowly but surely.. ]

[ When he actually puts his back to it, she hears the rust squeak and groan and the place rumble around them. Lightning walks out, and is greeted with a huge hole where the floor they walked on was. ]

More ladders. [ Sounds exasperated at this point. Glances back to Yuri. ]

Come on. This was your idea, anyway.

[ The height looks very steep, and with the way Yuri's slugging around... A plan pops in her head. ]

[ it's a healthy pace! ]

He he, don't act like you aren't excited. You'd say to hell with it and leave me here if you didn't want to find out what's down here as much as I do, right?

[ happily unawares of her terrible horrible plan >: ( ]

Better get started on these ladders then.

[ Ignores all that he's said and thrusts a white device to him. ]

Just throw it down when you're near the bottom. It'll work.

[ And she dives headfirst into the hole, disregarding the ladder altogether to throw her own Grav Bomb that activates, thus breaking her fall. ]

Huh -- wait!

[ he looks over the edge after her. HOW DOES SHE KNOW THAT WORKS IN THIS WORLD? what a crazy bitch. ]

...Here goes.

[ giving the device a skeptical look, he jumps after her- if it doesn't work, he has other means of surviving, and she'll need help to prevent a messy death at the bottom if it does fail.

thankfully though it deploys as she said it would and he lands on a knee next to her. ]

[ She knows it works because GRAVITY IS EVERYWHERE IN EVERY WORLD. Seeing that he's had a safe landing, her gaze scans the area and watching the path lead down. ]

Please. It's how I got around. [ Begins walking down the steps. ]

[ LOGIC, HOW DOES IT WORK?

he follows her down the catwalk. they're the only ones down here and their steps echo on the metal, but the quietness feels strange like something is waiting for them.

the steps lead them to another circular area, with a pillar in the center and another ladder going up. he crosses his arms. ]

If I see one more damn ladder...

You're climbing it. Right. [ She concludes this for him. ] Well, hop to it.

[ Looks around. ] Looks like this place hasn't been visited in a while...

Pushy. You mean you can't fly, too?

[ despite his grumping he takes hold of a low rung and hoists himself up, starting his vertical ascent. it looks like the ladder connects to a circular platform up top, which leads to a control room or something.

while he's climbing, he looks down over his shoulder to comment ]

Whatcha thinking? Abandoned? That makes it even more suspicious since it's forbidden to students.

[ Looks up and watches his ascent. ]

What, you think there's something really here, other than small fry monsters?

[ his voice gets louder the higher up he gets, but he's stopped looking over his shoulder to answer her.

Hell yes. If they were worried about small fry monsters they wouldn't let us use the Training Center. Normally, I wouldn't care... let them keep their damn secrets. But with everyone showing up here all of a sudden it's fishy, ain't it?

[ This is mostly said to herself, soft and possibly inaudible for Yuri to hear way up there. ]

[ and hear he does not, as he's just now reaching the top circular platform and making his way to the control room. there's a large glass window that overlooks the lower platform lightning is standing on next to a control panel with a lot of options to press and.....

well, we all know how well yuri and technology mesh. ]

Hey! There's a bunch of buttons up here, what should I do?

[ he's yelling of course so that she can hear, but he probably wouldn't be able to catch her reply all the way up here regardless. which is good (?), because he proceeds to start pressing every button in sight. ]

[ Without warning, the ground around her starts to shake, and she backs up to the pillar to avoid whatever could be happening. It seems the whole place is opening huge latches, and indeed, once she goes near the railing, she sees the ground has open up... with more ladders to greet her with. ]

Whatever he was doing... [ Frowns and shakes her head, looking up to see if Yuri'll come down anytime soon. ]

Hey, it worked. Hah!! Not bad, eh?!

looks like it just made way for more ladder climbing, though. on the one hand, he wants to climb another ladder about as much as he wants to punch himself in the face. on the other, the easiest way to get down would be...flying and well he doesn't want to try explaining that to someone else just yet-

he pops his head out of the control room to call down to her. ]

Keep going, I'll catch up.

[ Narrows her eyes. Really now? Well, if he says so... She's starting to climb down, yep. ]

he's gonna aim for landing behind the pillar so he doesn't fly over the top of her anyway aaaaand when he comes out from behind the pillar he's already back to normal-

he's starting back down to where she is nnnow but speaks up to let her know he's already caught up ]

Your favorite. [ Sarcasm, she knows it. She continues down until her feet touch the bottom. Okay, that ominous feeling she felt back in the beginning? It's coming down in full force. Blazefire Saber out and ready. ]

he's retrieving his metal knuckles from the pouch around his waist and pulling them on as the monsters shuffle towards them ]
