First Dawn ♞ Action

[Riku hasn't been up to much over the past few weeks. Coming into the Garden so late in the quarter, he wasn't sure what classes to take or specialization to enroll into with finals looming so close. He's gone to visit different classes to get a feel for how things operated here, but nothing was concrete just yet.

Not to mention the lack of his usual powers made him wary about things. It was strange not to be able to have the Keyblade in hand.

So today, after scoping out more classes and getting used to the layout of the Garden, Riku's decided to relax in a nice shady spot in the Quad focusing on controlling his new power. He's in control of his ice a lot more than he was at first, now just freezing things when he wants to. He's practicing using his ice to tiny little ice model and scupltures. There's a few half-melted hearts around his feet, one paopu fruit, and currently he's got a half formed model of his Way to the Dawn in his hands.

It's good practice for control for him. Come and admire some of his handiwork?]

[There is someone watching you , Riku. Someone who's eyes light up as she stares at the ice.]

OOOH! That is soooo pretty!

[Oh wow, it's Selphies! Although she does look a little bit different here. But with that hairstyle, how could it not be her?

His chest puffs out a little in pride at her comment.] Heh, thanks. Took me a while to get it all under control.

[Kneels down for a closer look.]

It looks all delicate! [Pout]Everyone but me is getting all the cool powers.

{It may be noticed now that she is wrapped in thick clothes from the neck down.]

[He notices that, and raises an eyebrow.]

Why? What did you get stuck with?

When I touch people I get all their icky feeling. Its soooooo super laaaame!

[A raised eyebrow.] 'Their icky feelings'?

[She nods] Yep , icky feelings!

If they feel bad , the I feel bad.

Strange. You're like a sponge for negative feelings then.

Do they feel better afterward though? That's something good that comes from it if they do.

So far I don't know! They don't tell me. I sure hope they feel better..

[As Mikuru approaches to gawk at the paopu fruit ice sculpture, daisy petals suddenly burst over it.] I'm sorry!

[Riku blinks at the flowers but just shrugs it off, smiling slightly at her.]

It's okay. I can make another one.

You made--

[She'd seen the sculptures first; now she sees what's in his hands. Her eyes widen.]

That's so cool!

[He smiles just a bit proudly.]

Thanks. It's not something I can usually do.

Really? [Mikuru tilts her head, because boy does that feel familiar.] Did you just start recently?

Yeah, just last week. I can't do what I could before. [He holds up the tiny ice model of his Keyblade in between his fingers.] And trying to control this wasn't that easy.

[She examines the Keyblade, thoughtful.] I couldn't do the flower thing before last week either... But this seems much more useful, and you've got much better control over it than I do over, well, that. [She nods to the melting ice paopu fruit she covered with daisy petals.]

Control just takes practice. It's not always easy for everyone, but the key is just to keep trying.

[Head tilt.] What could you do before?

[ Walking right up and picking up the paopu fruit, grinning. Unlike about a week ago, it doesn't steam or even hiss in her hand. ]

Good job, Riku! You're getting really good at this.

I could say the same to you. I finally don't have to put out your fires anymore.

[Zephyr just sort of ambles on over and nods his head appreciatively at what Riku's got going.]

Looks like you've got it under control now.

More or less. Would be nice to know if this is permanent or not though.

Still making cookies for giants and mice?

Nah. Got that sorted out.

[As if for proof, Zephyr materializes two perfectly sized cookies in his hands. He tosses one over to Riku and grins.]

I'm pretty sure I can handle any requests now.

[He catches it and takes a bite, nodding in approval.]

You could make a good living if anyone has a birthday party or wedding or anything.

Decorating's not my strong suit. Don't have the imagination for all those damn flowers.

[He gestures at the ice sculptures.]

Seems like you have a knack for the artistic though.

[He smirks, but it's a little sheepish.] Thanks. Wish I could take all the credit though, but their not original designs or anything like that. It makes for good practice though.

Hey, you've got a good enough eye to match the designs. That's gotta count for something, right?

Heh, probably. Can't exactly think of anything else to make out of it though.

[He pauses, brows furrowing.] Hey, can I ask you something? How long have you been here?

[He thinks about this for a moment, eyes narrowing for a moment as he tries to come up with the date.]

About three months. [Zephyr looks momentarily surprised at his answer.] Been longer than I thought.

Huh. [He catches that look, but it doesn't phase him. Sometimes losing track of time just happens. It's not the easiest when you're away from home.]

I don't mean to pry. Just trying to figure out if something like these abilities are normal for the world or not.

From the sounds of things, I doubt it.

[He shrugs. It's not like he's ever bothered to look into Garden's history, but people who had been here longer were still freaking out, so that had to count for something, right?

Or... Did Riku mean something else... ?]

Wait--you talking about the appearance of these abilities or the types of abilities we've got?

[Riku hums to himself, thinking about things. If something was wrong with the world, he could try and fix it, but it would be hard without his weapon.] Maybe it's just the Time Compression then that's messing with things.

Only the appearance of them. But I guess since you mentioned it, the types we got too. Seems a bit strange that everyone got something different.

Time compression seems to be the root of all the problems here.

[The grin on Zephyr's face is a little bitter, but he shrugs it off.]

But I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Some people get stuck here, some people get useful powers, and some people are just shit outta luck, period.

You know if there's been other problems besides this?

[Awww, he sympathizes, really.] It's the luck of the draw. Life's never been particularly fair to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. Hopefully, these won't last much longer.

I wasn't around when it happened, but I've heard that time compression actually threw some people back into their own worlds for a while.

Then--!

[He was hopeful for a second. Any kind of news of heading back is good news to him but...] That thing controls everything then. I'd hate for for the only way to get out of here to be left to chance of the Compression.

Thaaaaaaat sounds about right. [He finally finishes up the cookie he'd summoned for himself and then stretches his arms above his head.] I'm gonna guess you're one of the types who really wants to get home.

[Riku's still working on his cookie, too interested in the topic to really eat. Though now he looks strained and awkward thinking about home.]

Yeah, I'd be one of those types if I had the option to go back. It's been a long while since I've been there.

Since you've been home?

[Zephyr gives Riku a curious look. He doesn't mean to put Riku in an awkward spot, but he's not exactly the best at picking up the finer cues when it comes to body language.]

You uh... travel a lot?

[Riku tries to smile and look more composed to reassure him. It's just that he really misses the islands.]

Something like that. Not entirely by choice, but I needed to.

Obligations, huh? Yeah, I get that.

[Zephyr nods his head in sympathy.]

Well, hey, you got that friend of yours here, right? You guys could... I dunno. Talk about home together?

[He's... probably not helping the situation all that much.]

[Man, if only obligations were half of it.]

Yeah, I could talk to her about it. Have her bring me up to speed on things.

You got any friends from home here?

Nah. They're still back home.

[All two of them.]

Wish I could bring 'em here though. I bet they'd like it better here.

[Man, these guys are hitting almost all the sore spots today. He pauses for a moment, taking a bite out of his own cookie to cover his awkwardness.]

Probably. This place isn't home, but this world could have been a lot worse.

Maybe you'll catch a break and get lucky.

You're telling me.

[Zephyr gives Riku an easy grin and shrugs his shoulders.]

Would be nice to see 'em again. Real nice.

[Not to mention that them being here meant that they'd be far away from certain Cardinals.]

Impressive work! For an amateur, at least.

An amateur? [Raising an eyebrow now.] Think you could do better then?

I dunno, I've never tried. [grin.] Unfortunately your power is a little.. um, different from mine.

[He hadn't noticed anything different about her before when they met, unless attracting flies was a power.]
