ATTN: students in SPC 101 and ROC 101
I apologize, but I must absent myself from class for the next few days due to illness. A subsitute professor will be provided, and in the case of SPC 101, this will not affect your upcoming finals. Any questions concerning the material covered so far should be forwarded to the substitute, and if not, posted here or slipped under my office door to be reviewed as soon as I am able.
- Instructor Elika[action:]
[ Elika is laid up in her room, skin ash-gray from the pain that she's been carrying for a few days now. It flickers on and off, in increasingly powerful bursts. At first she grit her teeth and managed, but it's become so unbearable lately she's been forced to take leave.
What's worse is that no one in the infirmary could see signs of anything wrong: no redness, no welts or swelling, nothing strange in the blood or skin, no change in diet or exercise. Eventually, forced to admit they couldn't find a cause, they sent her back to her room with orders to rest.
The pain is strongest in the throat and chest, but it snakes all the way to her arms and even her feet. She would normally use her magic to dull the pain, but her powers seem weakened by the illness. Seems all she's got left to do is bear it until it passes. Come visit her with well-wishes? ]

Action
Hello? Instructor Elika?

Come in--door isn't locked...
no subject
I heard you were feeling icky.
[Selphie doesn't look so hot herself. ]
no subject
Whatever this is, I hope it doesn't stay too long. [ A pause as another burst of pain makes itself felt--in her feet, this time, of all places. ] You don't look very well yourself, Selphie--maybe you shouldn't be here.
no subject
I got tired of being in my room all the time. It ain't anything, really. I just took a whack in the Training Center. How are you?
no subject
[ At least Selphie's predicament has got Elika's mind off her own pain; she reaches out, hoping for a glimpse of magic--but nothing. ]
I'd heal you, if I could. I can't even heal myself.
no subject
Oh, I just messed up in the Training Center a few days ago. I just couldn't remember my magic stock.
[Grateful smile.]
It okay. By the looks of it, ma'am your hurt more than I am!
no subject
[ Admittedly, Elika's experience with Junctioning is limited to what she had to do in order to graduate, so. At Selphie's comment, her face softens into a smile. ]
I'll be fine--we both will.
no subject
It was soooooo lame of me!
[Punches the air, accidentally letting a few of the get well cards flutter to the floor.]
We will! It seems everyone is feeling bad though.
[ PM ] --for now!
I'm sorry to hear that you have fallen ill--it sounds quite serious.
Is there anything I can do for you at this moment in time?
Raines

I don't think it is. At least, I hope not.
- Instructor Elika

do you know any good painkillers, Raines?
My magic won't work

Elika? It's Raines.
no subject
Ah, it's unlocked...pardon the mess.
[ Inside, he'll find it really isn't that messy at all, but it's clear she just crawled into bed without bothering to do much more than change into sleepwear--her athletic wear is tossed haphazardly into a pile. The curtains are drawn, and despite the gloom, Elika's telltale glow is absent. She herself looks drawn and pale, the sheen of sweat on her skin from the pain. She musters up a tight smile for him. ]
You're a light, Raines. Thank you.
no subject
The concerned look growing on his face, he kneels by the bed to avoid looming over her and holds up the bag in his hands.]
I wasn't sure what sort you preferred, so I may have gone a bit overboard in terms of medicinal variety.
no subject
[ Yes, the not glowing is clearly the most significant symptom of illness here. Elika nudges herself back into the pillows a bit, hoping for a little more leverage so she can at least pretent to look Raines in the eye. She looks worn, though, and every movement seems to add a crease to her brow. ]
What did you bring?
no subject
[That said, he turns his attention back to the bag and starts fishing out the bottles, arranging them on the edge of her bed. From the looks of things, Cid had bought one of every type of pain medication in the store.]
...Perhaps we should start on your specific symptoms?
action;
She's going to do her best to take good care of her dear friend, oh yes.
She pauses outside her door and knocks.]
Elika, it's Padmé. May I enter?
no subject
[ It's quiet, Elika's voice barely passing the door. Inside, she's in bed, curtains drawn, looking gaunt. She's shivering lightly from the effort of fighting the pain, wishing sleep would come. When Padme enters, she offers the other woman a rueful smile. ]
I must warn you--whatever it is that I have, I sincerely hope it isn't contagious.
no subject
Elika... [She murmurs softly, gingerly seating herself on the edge of the bed. Padmé wants to reach for her hand, wants to check her forehead.
This is one of those times where she really wishes she was a Jedi, to somehow soothe the evident pain the other woman is in.]

I thank you for your concern, Rasler. I plan to rest as much as possible in order to be ready for finals. I wouldn't want to infect any of the students.

I'm not, I'm afraid, but I hope it will get better.
What kind of things do they use as analgesics in your world?
- Instructor Elika

Curative magic is also a viable option. I haven't tried to use my own curative magic since arriving, but it may still work..
