[action] the quad
[Teaching.
It was, in all honesty, not a profession Cid had ever thought he'd be able to add to his resume. It wasn't because he lacked the skills necessary; he could rally and lead men to battle--surely teaching students could not be any more difficult than that. No, it was simply that Cid had had more pressing matters then, matters that tied to him to a certain fal'Cie. For this reason, he turned down multiple offers from the Academy, citing his duties on board the Lindblum as his excuse.
But here in the Garden with his brand burned white, Cid had both the time and leisure to teach.
Of course, teaching based purely on his own experiences in leadership and political science was somewhat different from instructing on what was found in a textbook. Prior to leaving on a string of missions for the Garden, Cid had started on a syllabus and toying with the course curriculum but had had little time to work on it since then. With a mind to finish what he had started, he found himself a bench in the quad, a small pile of texts at his side and a notebook in his hands.
It wasn't the prettiest day outside, but for a man who had spent so much time in the air, there was no better place for him than under the open sky. Besides, it'd be easier for him to see old and new faces out here in the open instead of hiding away, lost behind rows upon rows of shelves in the library.]

Seems like there's another person from Cocoon here every week lately.
[The statement is amused and warm but not perfectly welcoming, yet, as Snow walks towards him with that confident hero's stride he has. Lightning's return had put him just a bit on edge, and if Cid was under Dysley's control when he was taken...]
no subject
Snow? [An apologetic look flickered across his face before he offered a somewhat warmer smile; he hadn't forgotten his last meeting with the Pulse l'Cie, not by a long shot. He stood after setting his notebook down and offered his hand.] So, it would seem I am not the only one to have ended up here.
no subject
[Seems the whole trying-to-kill-them thing is forgiven?]
no subject
[Cid's posture relaxed a little; if Snow was willing to forgive him, who was he to say no?]
You all are well, I assume?
[He didn't say it directly, obviously, but he was particularly interested in the arrival of Serah. After all, she had been crystal the last time he had seen her.]

Teaching is unfamiliar territory for me. Forgive me if I feel the need for extra preparation. [He snapped his notebook shut.] Have you been well?
no subject
Actually, yeah! Can't say I'm missing the start of term. The extended break's been pretty nice. [completely aware it's because he's world hopping all the time.]

no subject
Fun? [He paused, looked back down at the book, and then smiled.] I suppose it would depend on your definition of fun. Would you care to make a decision yourself?
[Cid offered the other the book, holding it out to him.]
no subject
It doesn't look like much fun. Why are you working when everyone's taking a break?

One way or the other, even if she knows it could be coincidence, she's awfully curious as well. Fortunately, it's not long before she finds the man the name belongs to and-- yes, it is him! Not that... she's entirely sure how to go about approaching someone who, even if he was Guardian Corps and their titles now mean very little here, still outranked her by something like half a dozen promotions, but--
Not important. In the end, she simply walks up to him, clearly unhesitating and dressed in her altered - but still recognizable - lieutenant's uniform. She's no reason to be afraid, after all. That isn't it. ]
... I didn't expect to see you here. [ She stops a short distance away, putting hands behind her back. ] Brigadier General Raines, of the 'Cavalry'... correct?
no subject
The uniformed woman standing before him was definitely Lightning Farron, but the question remained: why was she in PSICOM colors and when had she been promoted to lieutenant? Yes, Cid had to admit that she was very accomplished and likely did deserve a promotion, but that still did not solve the matter of PSICOM. And when was she to be promoted during the hunt for a l'Cie?
Perhaps she had, for some reason or another, joined after they parted ways in the Ark? No, that didn't fit either; Cid clearly remembered seeing her and the rest of the Pulse l'Cie arriving in Eden--it had been all over the news after all.
Nothing was adding up, so he gave her a stiff nod instead and answered.]
I am, Lieutenant. You are... [His gaze flicks up and down her uniform once more.] With PSICOM?
no subject
[ That seems an odd thing to ask after, but nevertheless, it's not enough to cause more than a moment's worth of suspicion. There are any number of reasons why he might ask about PSICOM, right? Particularly since he's GC instead and all.
She offers a salute, but it's unusually slow and deliberate in contrast to the brisk form those of the Guardian Corps are taught to always use... and the short bow that accompanies it is distinctly PSICOM-esque - and practiced - as well. She's clearly not just imitating it here. ]
Lieutenant Claire Farron, if you'll recall. [ As in she's pretty sure everyone on Cocoon knows who she is after the incident in Nautilus, but it seems best to stick to the rails in this case. Yeah, she's being awfully formal in demeanor and speech... though really, not as much as she could be. As soon as she straightens, she lets out a breath. ]
... Although it's just Instructor Farron, now.

Feeling oddly caged in Mae heads for the Quad for some fresh air. Finding Cid working away is honestly just a bonus as far as she's concerned.
>1. Isn't this nostalgic?
2. Worried about the new quarter?
3. You should really lighten up, Raines.]
Well isn't this nostalgic? [She's teasing as she kneels down to get a look at the books in his little pile.] You always have had a penchant for the quad, haven't you? Even when we were cadets.
[Standing up she brushes the knees of her pants absently.]
It's good to see that some things haven't changed at least.

I am a man who loves the open sky. If I cannot be in it, then let me at least look at it. [He offers Mae a smile and gestures at the bench.] Please, have a seat.
Have you settled back into the Garden yet?
no subject
Thank you. [She settles down onto the bench with a smile, turning slightly to face him her hands settling neatly onto her lap. It seems court manners die hard sometimes.]
I have. It's quite a bit easier to get settled in now than it used to be. I guess I've finally adapted to this world.
What about you? I hear you haven't been back very long either.

[Cid jerked his head over to look at her, but his surprise quickly gave way to a smile.]
It will be my first time teaching, so I would like to start off on the right foot.
no subject
Well then, hello Instructor! [Teasing. She steps to the side and comes around to sit next to him, setting her own books down.] Ah, it's not as bad as it seems. Most of the cadets are quite lovely, just like from our years. Hmm~ What are you teaching?
