[One may or may not notice a dark figure standing under a tree, watching other mill about to their classes. The population of cadets have nearly doubled, and the percentage of SeeD and instructors has also grown at a rate he hasn't seen in a while. Shadow's reappearance will certainly cause a stir.

Not like he cared.

With his mission over, he now has far too much time on his hands, so he is currently looking over the Balamb Newsletter.]

It's gotten a lot better.

You won't need to. Things aren't getting any better when it comes to a potential war breaking out, it seems.

What's your opinion on the Almasy thing?

[Thus far, his own opinion seems to be in the minority -- and yet, oddly, it's the one being acted on. Better to get a feel for the prevailing winds, so when push comes to shove (and he's sure it will), he knows what to expect.]

Almasy's still around? [raises an eyebrow. That subject...actually hits close to home for the black hedgehog. He read the whole newsletter by the time Edge had come, yet his opinion had evolved quite quickly.]

Unless he's up to his old games again, I don't see anything wrong with him being here.

The people who were here for what he did aren't happy. [Edge takes up a lean against the tree.] Especially with the threats some nations might make against us, knowing he's here.

They should stop wasting their time on one person and focus on stopping a potential war that could affect thousands. [Shadow stood from his seat and crossed his arms] It isn't up to anyone else to judge him, anyway.

It's a warning, really. If push comes to shove, there's going to be a fracture amongst the SeeDs as to how to deal with this.

[Raises an eyebrow]

What's your stance?

If he truly wants redemption, we should give him the chance. That's fair. If not, then that makes it our responsibility to deal with.

[Shadow nods, agreeing.] Exactly. Almasy dug his own grave, so let him figure out how to fill it.

Anything else going on that's not in the paper?

I haven't been back long enough to tell you anything solid. Or anything that matters and isn't gossipy. It is a school after all.

No news is good news, for now. [With the Gardens being as quiet as they were, Shadow knows something will come up.]

'Everyone's just focusing their attention elsewhere...'.

No news just means that whatever's going on hasn't broken out yet!

[He's cheerful about the prospect, though. Even on the throne he'd never had much tolerance for sitting about doing the administrative things. Give him a mission!]

Yet. Isn't that what all this is about? [Gestures to the newsletter.] You'd think people had enough of war.

The people responsible for it are the ones who don't suffer from it.

[More than a little bitter there.]

[Nods softly. Most wanting world destruction cowardly hide behind thick glass.] It's our job to make sure they do.

That's our second job. The first is keeping everyone here safe.

[And with Maria here now, that job would be twice as important.]

Right. Better keep conditioned, then.

Not a worry for me.

[Sure it's bragging, but it's true!]

Oh? Care to prove it? [Shadow is just bored, now. Some friendly competition would be a nice distraction.]

[Without missing a beat, Edge kicks off from the ground, backflips easily, and lands just as lightly. And looks smug about it all.]

Yup, still good.

[Watches the display before smirking.]

Not for humans. It's actually not very easy at all. Of course it's easier for you, you're top-heavy.

[Yes, Shadow, he's saying you have a big head.]

[That's just mean, Edge.]

It's easier for me because I was created this way. The ultimate lifeform would need to outperform most others.

[Meaning he could outperform Edge, top heavy or not.]

[Of course. There aren't many good rivals for Shadow, but a friendly one can really make him motivated to get better.]
